NelsonPoliceNews Fire Rescue: Fire on Bealby Road

Emergency 911 NPD - Non Emergency (250) 354-3926 RCMP- (250) 352-2156 Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477

At 6:29 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, the Nelson Fire Rescue Services responded to a report of a vehicle fire at a Bealby Road address. Both on duty members responded immediately with one additional members responding from home. Upon arrival of the first crew, the fire had started to spread to the forested area as well as the travel trailer that was attached to the vehicle. The pick-up truck was heavily involved in fire and the crews were concerned about the propane tanks on the front of the trailer. The initial incident commander immediately requested additional crews to be called to respond to the scene. The first arriving crew’s primary objective was to slow the spread of the vehicle fire and ensure that the propane tanks did not get heated. The fire appears to have originated in the engine compartment of the pick-up truck. The pick-up truck

was destroyed with fire damage to the front of the trailer and smoke damage inside. Nelson Fire Rescue used nearly 3000 gallons of water to suppress this fire. Approximately 270 square feet of forested area was burned as well as a few trees. Nelson Fire Rescue responded to the incident with two fire engines, one tender truck, and one utility vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Damage is estimated at $35000. The Nelson Police Department and RCMP responded and assisted with scene safety by controlling the traffic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Nelson Fire Rescue Services would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained and to avoid parking hot vehicles on or near combustible material including dry grass. submitted by Nelson Fire Rescue

Opinion&Editorial My Opinion

by Spencer Pollard

The Truth Is Out There (Some version of it anyway) The truth is generally considered, well, just that - the truth. The truth can be twisted in so many ways that, at times, our memories can’t be trusted. False memory can play into this. The lies told by others also are a part of it. False memories are a distorted version of a series of events, essentially misremembering details unintentionally. They aren’t done intentionally, it can be merely misremembering something and stating

it as a fact, or being told a lie so frequently, that it becomes the truth. The way we often remember events can betray us, it seems. The truth can also be twisted by anyone whose agenda runs counter to your own. Politicians can do it and anyone with the means to do so to benefit themselves, can lie as well. The truth can be twisted a million different ways, we just need to be vigilant on what the truth really is.
