Savoy Bowling Lanes close Effective immediately the operations of the Savoy Bowling lanes in Nelson will no longer be under the management of the Nelson Regional Sports Council (NRSC). The intention of the NRSC at the time of purchase in 2013 was to avoid an almost certain closure of the facility that would have prevented bowling to continue in Nelson. Keeping the sport alive and well was the goal. The first year saw considerable increase in league and public participation and the support was greatly appreciated. However, after two season’s of upgrade and operation it was evident that the high overhead costs, decline in league interest and the current operation model did not result, as hoped, in the sustainable business necessary for the NRSC to continue on with operations. www.nelsonsports.ca

Opinion&Editorial My Opinion

by Spencer Pollard

How to Not Care (And Feel Great Doing It)

When I bring up the title of this article, it isn’t to promote slothfulness or selfishness. It’s to provide a method of escapism when it comes to the issues that plague us. From the larger issues to the minor issues otherwise classified as “First World Problems”, having a more carefree attitude can

be beneficial. With the multitude of issues facing us on a daily basis, try focusing on not what the problems are, but what the solutions are. Humans have a tendency to focus on the negatives and for some of us, it can get overwhelming very quickly. Also in a sense ignorance is bliss; if you were 100%

aware of every problem in the world in full detail you might just go mad. I’m not saying avoid the issues or anything of that sort; simply tune yourself into what you can accomplish or what you can work towards. We can often have the weight of the world on our shoulders, so why not lighten the load?

Spencer Pollard is a young man living in Nelson BC with an interest in digital arts and writing. His ideas are of benefit to all of Nelson, and to stroke his abnormally large ego

Survey&Editorial Electronic communication should be seen as enabling us By Nelson Becker to stay in better touch with each other. For many people it is successful in this purpose. For some, it is too much.

Electronic communication

We want to know about your use of electronic communication. There are personal messages to and from your friends and family. There are emails from groups and associations that we want to be part of and have signed up for. And there are unsolicited emails

from scam companies that want to make some of our parts bigger or smaller – spam. This survey is interested in finding out about your use of personal and association emails. (Don’t worry, it is anonymous!)

This Week’s Survey Question What kind of electronic messaging do you use? Do you think you get too many e-mails? How many? Do you use filters on your email? Do you have any opinions ofn electronic communications you want to share?

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/e-communication

Watch for this week’s survey question in the Sat-Tues Minis. If you are not a subscriber to the Mini you can join our mailing list here. Not all results and comments from this special survey will be published, but you may notice some changes to the Express News Update as a result of what our readers say!

Last Week’s Survey Question Has your life been getting better? In the last year?

Yes 50% No 10% Same 40%

comments

There have definitely been some aspects get more difficult, but on the whole, the majority has gotten better. It depends on your list of “things”

In the last five years?

It’s about attitude and making the best use of resources. My income has dropped by more than 50% but I’m in a much better situation due to personal choices made.

Yes 50% No 20% Same 30%

As a teacher, my working life has gotten much worse. The Liberal government seems hell bent on destroying the public education system. They are doing a fine job.
