PUBLISHER’S NOTE SEPTEMBER EDITION

ROGER TUMMINIERI

As you likely may know, we moved out of Long Branch a few years ago to pursue a new life in the country. We bought a farm in Grey Highlands which is about two hours northwest of South Etobicoke. We miss the Lakeshore, but we’ve jumped into country life with two feet.

I started a similar publication as this, called Hello Country Magazine, to support local businesses and farmers in Grey Highlands. I took this one step further this summer and launched a new publication series, called Support Local Magazine, covering counties in Midwestern Ontario. So stay tuned for stories of country life from former city folk!

FINANCE BUDGET FRIENDLY FALL ACTIVITIES

Visit a farm

Have fun with foliage

Fall is just around the corner! To help plan a fun outing that’s both entertaining for the whole family and budget-friendly, we’ve compiled these suggestions:

raking, have some fun with the kids by cre ating jumping piles. Discarded leaves can also make great DIY fall-themed decora tions to have around your home.

Take advantage of the fall harvest with a visit to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard. A lot of local farms offer family-friendly activities like hayrides, mazes, and pet ting zoos with minimal entrance fees. The pumpkin patch is a great way to collect pumpkins for Halloween and makes a great backdrop for family photos.

Create a fun and challenging scavenger hunt for your kids. You can do this around your house, backyard, or park. Use land marks like trees, flowers, mailboxes, etc., and have a fun friendly competition with clues and riddles.

With a bit of planning, fall fun is easy to find without breaking the bank or putting your family at risk. Make this an autumn to remember!

Bring the theatre to your backyard with an outdoor movie night. You can invest in a projector, which are low maintenance and can give you an authentic movie theatre experience. All you need is a white sheet or canvas and you’re good to go. You can also recreate this inside your home during the winter months.
