News & Events Phuket Boardriders Club Meet The first PBC contest of the season will be held at the Andaman Sea Surf headquarters at the North end of Patong Beach on June 26 and 27. The meet will include shortboard, longboard, and grom divisions along with an after surf party right on the beach.

Dara Hotel
The most colorful hotel in Phuket! By: Tom Fekete Dara Hotel
Many of us have driven by the funky and colorful Dara Hotel near the Central Festival intersection in Phuket and wondered what it’s all about. TSM decided to check it out and see for ourselves. The first thing you notice upon entering Dara is, of course, the colors. Colors, colors everywhere colors!! Vibrant shades of green, orange, red, blue, yellow, all thrown tastefully together to produce an experience of creativity, aliveness, and energy. This hotel definitely has personality! Hotel owner, Khun Katha Watcharapin (better know as “Boat”) says his inspiration came from fascination with Legos as a kid. Most of us over 30 have at one time or another enjoyed these simple yet challenging multi-colored building blocks during our youth, but somehow we lose the playfulness and creativity of Legos as we get older. Khun Boat has managed to reawaken this creative spark in Dara. The Lego theme is prevalent throughout the hotel, with modern, straight, minimalistic lines giving the impression of being

assembled from a rainbow of building blocks. There is even a set of Legos in the lobby from which guests and staff have built a myriad of Dara inspired creations. The colorful theme is present right down to the smallest detail, including the light fixtures, chairs, and even the complementary soap and shampoo bottles. Rooms are offered in different color combinations and the creative schemes invoke a different feeling for each space. Warm, sexy, chic, cool, tropical, modern; there is something to suit everyone’s taste and mood. Many guests actually request particular colors when checking in, and even the layouts for the same room types are slightly different meaning a unique experience on every visit.

Dara isn’t just about colors, though, it’s also about comfort. No expense has been spared in the high quality spring mattresses, custom made oversized pillows, and top-end linen that offer 5 star comforts at 3 star prices. The most striking feature as you enter each room area is the vibrantly colored, seamless and shiny flooring which was poured using a special self leveling resin technology
Other than the sensory candy, all the spacious rooms boast oversized fridges (convenient for those food and drink purchases from Central), LCD TV, custom built in furniture, wi-fi, hot water pot and kitchenette counter, central a/c, and surprisingly roomy walk-in robes. No more living straight out of your bag for lack of space like in a lot of hotel rooms we’ve stayed in.
Rooms come in 4 varieties: Studio, Junior Suite, 1 Bedroom Suite, and Honeymoon Suite. Some of the larger rooms include sofas and oversized bathtubs. High season Prices range from 1,600 per night for a Studio room to B3,500 for the Honeymoon Suite (inclusive of breakfast, taxes, and service charge). Green season (surf season!) rates are even more attractive, ranging from B1,200 to B3,000. Guests will find that the fun atmosphere extends to common areas as well. The huge, multi leveled pool is surrounded by long, padded sofas with colorful pillows allowing guests to unwind to the max. For sunbathers, there are deckchairs sitting directly in the water of the “low tide” area of the pool making basking in the sun a more refreshing experience. Other features include an in-pool jacuzzi and a moderndesign waterfall plunging directly into the inviting waters. Not far from there, you’ll find Dara’s chic bar and restaurant as well as a comfortable meeting room available for guest use. Overlooking the pool and accessed by a spiral staircase is a wide open roof garden where you can watch the action below during the day or enjoy a good view of live poolside entertainment from above at night. One hotel feature TSM found especially cool is a proper 3 wheeled Thai tuk tuk offered free for guests. What better way to explore Old Town in Phuket, go shopping, or hit the golf course than via an authentic, open aired tuk tuk? Khun Boat plans on adding more features to Dara in the near future including an acrylic stage that can be lowered directly into the pool offering a unique setting for live bands, fashion shows, and other parties and presentations. Contrary to popular belief, the name “Dara” (which can mean “movie star” in Thai) has nothing to do with the hotel’s chic, hip, and trendy atmosphere. Nor did it come from the fact that the Central Festival traffic crossing is also known as the Darasamut Intersection (another nice coincidence). The hotel is actually named after Khun Boat’s mother, Khun Dararat. In this sense, Dara means Shining Star and, unlike movie stars that fade away as quickly as they shine, Khun Boat believes that the auspicious name will bring luck, longevity, and good fortune to the Hotel for a long time to come just like the heavenly bodies it is named after. Khun Boat, who originally worked in the auto industry as an industrial engineer, was drawn to the hotel business by brothers, sisters, and cousins who were already
involved in the industry in locations around Phuket. Their knowledge and support have helped Khun Boat to realize his fantastic creation. Having only opened 6 months ago, Dara is already catching on through word of mouth amongst businessmen and the young, hip, and trendy crowd from Bangkok and neighboring Asian countries. The hotel’s central location, being one of the best positions from which to explore ALL of the island, is also starting to catch the eye of Western visitors looking for a different experience from the usual Phuket beach resort. TSM thinks Dara has all the ingredients for success: great prices, comfortable rooms, generous amenities, and of course, the unique, colorful, hip, and trendy modern living atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out on your next visit to Phuket.

Surfing is the sport of riding the surf—especially on a surfboard. It comes from the Hawaiian and Tahitian legacy as an ancient tradition, and wooden surfboards made in the fifteenth century can be examined in the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii today. Such boards were made from various hardwoods, including the endemic Hawaiian Koa tree.
LA’A LOA Hawaii
Hawaiian legends tell of men chanting to the sea in praise of good
surf—and royalty (Ali’i) competing in surfing competitions. At various
surfing sites the ancient Hawaiians built temples and prayed for favorable
surfing conditions, such as at the Kuemanu Heiau archeological site at Kahalu’u Beach Park, Hawaii. However, Christian missionaries, who judged surfing to be immoral, outlawed the sport in the 19th century and Christianized some sites by leveling temples and building churches Shaping a Koa Surfboard
alongside the ruins. At the Kuemanu archeological site, Saint Peter’s Church testifies to the change in social value which took place. In 1986 the County of Hawaii restored the site and today surfers once again make offerings at the Kuemanu Heiau and pray for good waves.

A somewhat untold tale in ancient surfing are those of
the fishermen who faced the surf in their daily life around the world. In order to fish they needed to face the waves—
in order to return to shore, they indubitably needed
to master riding them. For example, pre-Columbian
cultures are believed to have rode waves to shore on their reed boats thousands of years ago in countries like Peru and Ecuador.
Duke Kahanamoku After a period of decline the sport made a dynamic
comeback in the 1920s by the Hawaiian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku (1890-1968)—becoming an internationally recognized sport practiced in nearly all of the world’s
oceans and seas. The Duke showed the world the style
and grace of the Hawaiian waterman when he took gold
and silver medals in the 1912, 1920, 1924 Olympics in swimming.

In this issue, Thailand Surfrider had the pleasure of catching up with the lovely Khun Ying, proprietor of PhuketSurf.com surf shop in Kata Beach . . . TS:
My real name is Kularb Bunchalern but my nickname is Ying. When I was born I came into the world really red in color so my mother named me Kularb after the red rose. I’m 27 years old and originally from Songkla Province. I’ve been living in Phuket for the last 7 years.
TS:
7 years ago my older sister Noot invited me to help her run PhuketSurf.com surf shop here in Kata. She introduced me to surfing and was the one who taught me how to surf.
TS:
When I was learning to surf, I used a longboard, but now I prefer shortboards. I can ride any kind of board from 5’ to over 6’ in length.
TS:
In 2007, my sister and her family who were running the shop moved to Sweden. That’s when I took over managing the shop.
TS:
Of course, my favorite break has to be Kata. I like it a lot because I can surf with my close group of friends and it’s my home break. Kata Noi also has good waves and I enjoy Nai Yang as well though it’s a bit far for me to go often.
TS:
In Thailand, I’ve surfed at Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. I wasn’t very impressed as the waves were smaller than here but maybe I just caught it on a small day.

Outside of Thailand, I went to Bali, Indonesia in 2009. The waves there are fantastic! I surfed so many spots, like Kuta Beach, Kuta Reef, and a lot of other places. I was really impressed with that trip. I went with members of the KataKrew surf club including 7 girls. So much fun!
TS: Do you have a boyfriend? (laughs) No, not yet, but I am looking for one. Of course, one specification is that he must be a surfer! Someone who loves freedom and has long bushy hair with a bit of an earthy look. Any nice guy who fits the spec, either Thai or foreign, would be good. (laughs)
TS: Tell us about
PhuketSurf and your services. Right now our principal business is rental boards and surfing lessons. We've got a lot of boards to choose from; about 40 in all. Every kind of board from around 5' all the way up to 12'. We also offer other services like board repair and surf accessories. Other than the surf shop I also have a restaurant called The Tube - Surf Bar & Restaurant. It's on another street not far from PhuketSurf.
TS: What about your surf lessons?
Mostly we do one on one instruction but we can also do group lessons. Our packages start from 1.5 hours up to 3 full days. Our 3 day package is designed to take someone from first time beginner to being able to ride a shortboard. We have about 4 or 5 instructors. All our instructors are highly experienced surfers and can speak English well. For teaching, they use mainly longboards, both soft boards and normal boards.
I've also noticed that a lot more Thais are getting interested in surfing. I think the growing popularity can be attributed to the yearly surf contests held here in Kata Beach.
TS: What would you like
to say to people coming to visit Phuket who are interested in surfing?
The waves in Phuket might not be the best, but there are a lot of other bonuses to surfing here. The water is always warm and Thai people are really friendly. We welcome everyone to join us!
TS: What type of students
do you mostly get?
Actually, we get about half and half Thai and foreign students. The youngest student we've had was only 6 years old! Mostly, though, our main type of students are men around 45. Annie Grant

TS: เคยไปเล่นเซิร์ฟนอกเกาะภูเก็ต บ้างไหมครับ หญิงเคยไปเล่นเซิร์ฟที่เกาะสมุยค่ะ หาดเฉวง แต่ก็ไม่ค่อยประทับใจเท่าไหร่ เพราะคลื่นเล็ก กว่าที่ภูเก็ต แต่หญิงอาจจะไปตอนที่คลื่นไม่ดี ก็เป็นไปได้ค่ะ

เซิร์ฟละครับ คนที่มาใช้บริการเขา คิดกันอย่างไร? ส่วนใหญ่แล้วจะมีนักท่องเที่ยวมาให้สอนเล่น เซิร์ฟแบบตัวต่อตัว แต่ถ้ามีเป็นกรุ๊ปมาเราก็ รับสอนค่ะ แพคเกจของเราเริ่มที่หนึ่งชัวโมง ครึ่งจนถึงแพคเกจสามวัน แพคเกจสามวัน นี่จะสอนกันตั้งแต่เล่นไม่เป็นจนสามารถเล่น บอร์ดสั้นได้เลยค่ะ

3. Nai Harn Beach Overview A relatively short stretch of sand at the South tip of the island, Nai Harn is possibly Phuket's most picturesque beach. A lake just inland is sometimes drained into the sea at the South end of the bay creating a perfect left hand sandbar especially at the beginning and end of the Southwest monsoon. Nai Harn is also open to rare South groundswells in the high season.
Description Beach Break. In the right conditions, waves bounce off the rock headland at the South end and peak up on a sandbar creating a hollow, fast left hander. There is also a right and left breaking in the middle of the beach.

2. Kata Noi Beach Overview
Description
Small Bay South of Kata Beach. One of the more powerful spots in Phuket. Can produce some of the best waves on the island when it's on. Tight take-off spot at the main break can get crowded quick. Usually bigger than other spots.
Beach break. The main break is produced by waves bouncing off a rocky headland at the North end resulting in a nice right-hand peak with a steep take-off.

3. Kata Beach Overview By far the most popular surfing beach in Phuket. Also offers the most consistently surfable waves on the island. Picks up most swell directions. Rental boards and lessons are available from numerous surf shops at the South end. Can be quite crowded but there are plenty of waves to go around.

breaking well with good size and light winds before making the trek. Even then you may regret not hitting a closer spot while it was good. Don't be fooled; the break is further out than it looks. At low tide you can cover a lot of distance by
walking out on the sandbar to the point. At high tide, expect a paddle of nearly a kilometer.

ของเกาะภูเก็ต ถือได้วา่ เป็นหาดทรายทีส่ วยงาม แห่งหนึ่ง บริเวณด้านทิศใต้สุดชายหาดจะมี ทะเลสาบเล็กๆ ซึ่งบางครั้งจะมีน้ำ�ไหลกลับลง ทะเล ซึ่งทำ�ให้เกิดสันทรายและทำ�ให้เกิดคลื่น ซ้ายที่ค่อนข้างชันและไล่แตกเป็นแนวสวยงาม โดยเฉพาะน้ำ�ก่อนหน้าและหลังมรสุมตะวัน ตกเฉียงใต้เล็กน้อย จะเป็นเวลาที่เหมาะสมใน การเล่นคลื่นที่หาดนี้ และบางครั้งหาดในหาน ก็ยังสามารถเล่นโต้คลื่นในช่วงหน้าท่องเที่ยว อีกด้วย

Nai Harn Beach หาดในหาน
ช่วงฤดูมรสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ซึ่งเริ่มประมาณ เดือนพฤษภาคม ถึงเดืิอนตุลาคมของทุกปี จะเป็นเวลาที่เหมาะสมที่สุดในการเล่น กระดานโต้คลื่นในจังหวัดภูเก็ต และรวมไป ถึงทะเลฝั่งอันดามันของไทยด้วย ในเวลานั้น ลมทะเลจะมีกำ�ลังแรงทำ�ให้เกิดคลื่นมีขนาด พอเหมาะในการเล่น รวมไปถึงจะมีฝนตกลง มาด้วย ส่วนในช่วงฤดูการท่องเที่ยวหรือ ประมาณเดือนพฤศจิกายนถึงเมษายน และ เป็นเวลาของลมมรสุมตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ช่วงนี้จะไม่มีคลื่น หรือมีแต่ก็หายากเต็มที เนื่องจากสภาพที่ตั้งของเกาะภูเก็ต ซึ่งมี ตำ�แหน่งทีห่ ลบกระแสคลืน่ จากขัว้ โลกใต้ ทำ�ให้ มีกระแสคลื่นจริงๆ ที่เราเรียกว่า ground swell นั้น มาถึงน้อยมาก ทำ�ให้คลื่น 95% ที่ เล่นกันบนเกาะนี้เกิดจากระแสลมเป็นหลัก
ดังนั้นสภาพอากาศในตอนที่เราเล่นคลื่นกัน จะมีลกั ษณะการพัดของลมทะเล แต่กย็ งั โชคดี ที่เรายังมีจุดเล่นคลื่นบางจุดในภูเก็ตที่หลบลม หรือมีลกั ษณะทางกายภาพทีเ่ อือ้ ในการเล่นคลืน่ ที่เกิดจากลมเป็นหลัก วัฐจักรการเกิดคลื่นบนเกาะนี้จะเริ่มจากพายุ พัดกำ�ลังแรง ทำ�ให้เกิดคลื่นลมที่กระจาย ทั่วไปในทะเล แต่ยังไม่สามารถที่จะเล่น กระดานโต้คลื่นบนคลื่นเหล่านี้ได้ หรืออาจจะ เล่นได้บ้างเมื่อนักโต้คลื่นหาจังหวะที่ลมหย่อน ลง ต่อมาเมื่อลมเริ่มอ่อนกำ�ลังลงหรือจาก พายุกลายเป็นลมทะเลเบาๆ นั้นเป็นช่วงเวลา ที่นักโต้คลื่นทุกคนรอคอย เพราะภายหลัง จากพายุหายไป คลื่นจะมีขนาดใหญ่ขึ้นและมี รูปร่างที่สุดยอดกับการเล่นโต้คลื่น คลื่นแบบ นี้จะคงอยู่สักระยะหนึ่งขึ้นกับกำ�ลังของพายุ
ที่พัดก่อนหน้านี้ และจะค่อยๆมีขนาดเล็กลง เรื่อยๆ จนกว่าจะเกิดลมพายุลูกใหม่ก่อตัว ขึ้นอีก แต่ถ้าพายุพวกนี้ก็ก่อเกิดซ้ำ�ๆ ตามๆ กันมาตลอดทั้งเดือน ซึ่งทำ�ให้ทั้งเดือนเกิด คลื่นลมแรงที่ไม่สามารถเล่นโต้คลื่นได้ ก็ต้อง ถือว่าเดือนนั้นเป็นเดือนที่โชคร้ายสำ�หรับนัก โต้คลื่นไป ขนาดของคลื่นในภูเก็ต ปกติจะมีขนาดความ สูงประมาณหน้าอกถึงศีรษะ แต่บางโอกาส อาจจะมีคลื่นสูงถึงสองช่วงตัวเรา ซึ่งหาดูได้ น้อยมาก อีกทั้งสภาพอากาศและขนาดของ คลื่นที่นี้เปลี่ยนแปลงเร็วมาก ดังนั้นถ้าคุณเจอ คลื่นที่มีขนาดเหมาะสมก็ลงไปโต้คลื่นได้เลย ไม่ต้องไปหาที่หาดอื่นๆ เพราะคุณอาจจะ พลาดมันไปเลยก็ได้

2. หาดกะตะน้อย สภาพทั่วไป – เป็นหาดทรายเล็กๆที่อยู่
ขนาดคลื่น – ตั้งแต่ 2 ฟุตขึ้นไป ทิศทางของคลื่น – คลื่นขวาตรงบริเวณ โขดหินทิศเหนือ และคลื่นซ้ายทางทิศใต้ บริเวณกลางๆ หาดเล่นได้
ตอนใต้ของหาดกะตะ(ใหญ่) เป็นจุดที่มีคลื่น แรงที่สุดจุดหนึ่งในเกาะ และพูดได้ว่าเป็นจุด ที่มีคลื่นที่ใหญ่ และดีที่สุดเมื่อสภาพอากาศ เป็นใจ ตรงจุดที่จับคลื่น อาจจะมีนักโต้คลื่น จำ�นวนมากในวันที่คลื่นดี ปกติหาดกะตะน้อย จะมีคลื่นที่มีขนาดใหญ่กว่าที่อื่นๆ ในสภาพ อากาศเดียวกัน

ทิศทางลม – คลื่นจะมั่วมาก เมื่อมีลมแรง บางครั้งอันตรายจากกระแสน้ำ� ตรงบริเวณบันไดลงเนิน ด้านทิศเหนือของหาด และควรระวังเรื่องกระแสน้ำ�ที่รุนแรงในวันที่มี ลมแรง

3. หาดกะตะ สภาพทั่วไป – หาดกะตะถือได้ว่าเป็นหาด
ที่โด่งดังที่สุดของนักโต้คลื่น และเป็นหาดที่มี คลื่นสม่ำ�เสมอที่สุดบนเกาะแห่งนี้ มีร้านให้เช่า เซิร์ฟบอร์ด โรงเรียนสอนเซิร์ฟ ตลอดความ ยาวของหาด และมีนักโต้คลื่นจำ�นวนมาก โดยเฉพาะช่วงวันหยุด
ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นแตกชายหาด และมี
คลื่นขนาดใหญ่บริเวณ โขดหินทางทิศใต้ ส่วน บริเวณอื่นคลื่นอาจมีขนาดเล็กลงมา
ขนาดคลื่น – ตั้งแต่ 2 ฟุตขึ้นไป แต่ถ้า คลื่นใหญ่มากบางครั้งครอบเร็ว

แต่ตรงบริเวณโขดหิน ด้านใต้จะหลบลมได้บ้าง
ทิศทางของคลืน่ – เล่นได้ทง้ั ขวาและซ้าย อื่นๆ – ถ้าต้องการหนีจากนักเซิร์ฟจำ�นวน ช่วงน้ำ�ขึ้นลง – ช่วงระหว่างน้ำ�ขึ้นลง จะ เป็นช่วงที่ดีที่สุด ช่วงน้ำ�ขึ้นสูงสุดคลื่นจะช้าและ ไม่มแี รงพอ ส่วนเวลาน้�ำ ลงมากๆ คลืน่ จะแตก และครอบเร็วมาก
มาก ลองเล่นตรงบริเวณหน้าลานจอดรถ (ประมาณ 200 เมตร จากจุดจับคลื่นโขดหิน ด้านใต้) หรือบริเวณหน้าหอคอยยามชายฝั่ง ซึ่งมีคนน้อยกว่า แต่ก็มีคลื่นที่ดี ข้อควรระวัง คืออันตรายจากนักเซิร์ฟคนอื่นและจากนักท่อง เที่ยวที่เล่นน้ำ�อยู่ชายหาด Kata Beach หาดกะตะ
4. หาดกะรน สภาพทั่วไป – อยู่ระหว่างหาดกะตะกับ
หาดป่าตอง และเป็นชายหาดที่มีความยาว ที่สุดในเกาะภูเก็ต ทำ�ให้ค่อนข้างยากในการ ขับรถไปมาเพื่อหาจุดเล่นเซิร์ฟ อย่างไรก็ตาม จุดบริเวณวงเวียนทางเหนือ แต่บริเวณใต้สุด ของชายหาด จะเป็นจุดที่มีนักโต้คลื่นเล่นอยู่ ประจำ�
ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นแตกชายหาด และมี

5. หาดป่าตอง สภาพทั่วไป – หาดป่าตองเป็นหาดที่
นักท่องเที่ยวรู้จักไปทั่วโลก นอกจากเซิร์ฟแล้ว ยังมีกิจกรรมอื่นๆให้ทำ�อีกมากมาย ตลอด ชายหาดมีเซิร์ฟบอร์ดให้เช่าและรับสอนเซิร์ฟ อยู่ทั่วไป และนักเซิร์ฟไม่เยอะเท่าหาดกะตะ
ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นแตกชายหาด คลื่น
บริเวณทางเหนือของชายหาดจะมีขนาดโตกว่า บริเวณอื่นเล็กน้อย วันที่คลื่นดีดี บริเวณทาง เหนือ หรือตรงแหลมเพชรจะมีคลื่นดีมาก
ขนาดคลื่น – ตั้งแต่ 2 ฟุตขึ้นไป แต่ถ้า
คลื่นใหญ่มากกว่า 6 ฟุตอาจจะครอบเร็วได้ วันที่คลื่นใหญ่มากจะพายออกไปยาก แต่ถ้า ออกไปตรงไลน์อัพได้จะสนุกมาก

6. หาดกะหลิม สภาพทั่วไป – หาดกะหลิมตั้งอยู่บริเวณ ทางเหนือของหาดป่าตอง เป็นอ่าวเล็กๆ ที่มี หินและประการังแข็งอยู่เต็มพื้นที่ชายหาด
ขนาดคลื่น – ตั้งแต่ 3 ฟุตขึ้นไป และวัน
ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นที่เกิดจากแนวหินประ การัง มีจุดขึ้นขี่คลื่นหลายจุดใกล้ๆกัน ตอน เริ่มจับคลื่น อาจจะไม่ค่อยมีกำ�ลังมาก แต่ เมื่อขี่คลื่นมาใกล้ๆชายหาดคลื่นจะเร็วและแรง ขึ้น วันที่คลื่นดี อาจยืนบนคลื่นได้ยาวถึง 200 เมตรเลยทีเดียว
ทิศทางของคลื่น – ส่วนใหญ่จะเป็น
ที่เป็นวันสุดยอดของคลื่นกะหลิม คลื่นอาจจะ สูงถึง 8 ฟุต
คลื่นขวา ส่วนคลื่นซ้ายจะสั่นมาก และอาจ พานักโต้คลื่นไปติดกับแนวหินใต้น้ำ�ได้
ช่วงน้ำ�ขึ้นลง – ในช่วงของวันที่มีน้ำ�ขึ้น สูงสุดในแต่ละรอบเดืิอนสามารถเล่นได้ทั้งวัน แต่ไม่แนะนำ�ในตอนที่มีน้ำ�ลงเยอะๆ เพราะ อาจเกิดอันตรายจากแนวหินแข็งได้

ค่อยมีกำ�ลังแต่ก็ยังเป็นคลื่นที่สามารถเล่น โต้คลื่นได้อย่างสนุกสนาน จุดที่เล่นโต้คลื่น ใหญ่ๆ จะมีสองจุดคือบริเวณหน้าภูเก็ต แฟนตาซี และบริเวณทิศเหนือสุดหาด

สภาพทั่วไป – เป็นชายหาดที่มีความยาว
มากอีกหาดหนึ่งและเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติที่มี แนวประการังและสัตว์ทะเลสวยงาม เป็น ชายหาดที่เงียบสงบและสามารถเห็นชีวิตของ ชาวประมงท้องถิ่น อีกทั้งมีร้านอาหารทะเล อร่อยๆ อยู่มากมาย
ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นแตกเนื่องจากแนว ประการังใต้น้ำ� คลื่นจะแตกไล่สวยงามมาก และสามารถเล่นคลื่นได้ยาว คลื่นที่หาดใน ยางต้องรอดูว่าคลื่นที่จุดอื่นๆมีขนาดใหญ่พอ สมควร จึงจะสามารถเล่นคลื่นที่นี้ได้ ขนาดคลื่น – ตั้งแต่ 2 ฟุตขึ้นไป ทิศทางของคลื่น – คลื่นซ้าย ช่วงน้ำ�ขึ้นลง – เล่นได้ตลอดทุกช่วงเวลา

ลักษณะคลื่น – คลื่นแตกชายหาด และ ถือได้ว่าเป็นชายหาดที่มีคลื่นแรงที่สุดแห่งหนึ่ง ในวันที่มีพายุ หาดสุรินทร์จะอันตรายมาก เพราะคลื่นที่แรงและชายหาดที่มีพื้นทราย เหมือนแอ่งกะทะ แต่ในวันที่สภาพอากาศดี คลื่นจะสวยงามมาก ก็เป็นอีกทางเลือกหนึ่ง ของนักโต้คลืน่ ทีอ่ าจจะหนีจากจุดอืน่ ๆทีม่ คี นเยอะ
