As CEO of Taraci Motivation for more than 30 years, my firm has been involved in incentives and pillow gifts of every kind-from French designer handbags in Paris to offering the first laser disc players for a meeting in Hong Kong. I thought I had seen and done it all…until last spring. Indeed! In May, we were at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, where we created a gift pavilion for our client, a Fortune 25 Financial company.

The Problem… Every attendee was to receive a completely individualized gift, which they needed to be WOWED by.

Our Solution… Each of the 2500 attendees received a customized pair of ADIDAS sneakers. With the designers at ADIDAS, we created an online portal where participants could enter and design their own sneaker from a variety of styles. We brought Design Concierges to the meeting, who worked with each invitee and guided them through the design process. Each guest left with a gift they could not have received anywhere else. The event created more excitement than anything I’ve ever done in the last 30 years. Best of the Best Custom Products! How Taraci Motivation Created a Historic Custom Sneaker Event for a Fortune 25 Corporation

In an event that became one of the most successful meeting gift events in the company’s history, Taraci Motivation held a threeday custom sneaker event for 2,500 employees of a Fortune 25 corporation. “This exceptional live event was the most exciting and memorable recognition gift meeting our Fortune 25 client has ever held,” said Tom Taraci, the CEO of Taraci Motivation, the 31-year-old incentive marketing company. The Fortune 25 company’s executives approached Mr. Taraci to helm the planning and execution of an interactive event, which would take place in July 2013 in Colorado Springs. Among the requirements, said Mr. Taraci, was that the prestigious event was to appeal to both sexes, fit within the clients’ given budget, and be executed seamlessly for an unusually large group of 2,500 guests.

Selecting the Right Partner “After considering several alternatives, Taraci Motivation chose to partner with Adidas to develop a unique, custom footwear event,” said Mr. Taraci. “Each guest was to receive their own unique, custom-designed pair of Adidas shoes. We were able to incorporate Adidas’ web-based customization option into our program, and to provide on-site assistance for the guests to design their own shoes.”

Preparation and Execution “The first step was connecting my design team with Adidas to create a welcome page as a gateway to their gift,” Mr. Taraci explained. A welcome page was customized with a selection of men’s and women’s shoes for the recognition gift event. Adidas created colorful gift cards with redemption codes that were distributed to the event’s guests. At the event, Adidas also provided signage for the website, and samples of selected shoes to enhance the guests’ overall interactive experience, and make it exciting and fun. To accommodate the flow of guests, the Taraci Motivation team worked diligently on Excel spreadsheets of event analytics that included estimates on the average number of times a guest might design their own shoe, an important piece of information to keep the event running smoothly.

The Event

The Design Team Factoring in the number of days and hours his team would need in order to work expertly with each guest, Taraci Motivation built a team of Design Concierges. “The team’s function was to help each guest navigate Adidas’ customization process, redeem their gift, and help personalize the overall experience,” said Mr. Taraci. Eight highly knowledgeable Concierges were constantly on site to assist attendees.

Perfect Location A large ballroom was secured at the site hotel to act as Adidas Design Headquarters for the “Design Your Own Shoe” portion of the recognition meeting, complete with eight laptop stations for the Design Concierges to work on. The Adidas display, featuring the wide array of styles and colors available for guests, was located centrally for guests’ convenience.

A representative was always stationed at the display and a staff member stood at the entrance to check guests in seamlessly, and offer them their individual gift cards. Guests arrived in three waves of approximately 825 people each. “In addition to the eight design stations, there were two extra laptops available for guests who wanted to shop on their own or needed more time to consider their design,” said Mr. Taraci. He and the Taraci Motivation team considered this event among their best work. “The amount of excitement and interest created by this event was beyond anything we had anticipated,” he said.
