Sylvia Jackson Chair, Canadian Angus Foundation

The goal of the Canadian Angus Foundation (CAF) is to ensure the continued growth and development of the Angus breed. Logically we look to our junior program to support and encourage our youth to work in the agricultural industry. With the funds raised through the past Legacy sales, the CAF has expanded scholarship and bursary opportunities for our juniors. In 2013 we created the Outstanding Young Angus Breeder Award, and in 2014 the Junior Stockman of the Year Award, to assist young breeders that have chosen the Angus business as their career path. These awards help advance their programs as well as reward them for sustaining the industry. The return on the investments made in our youth programs is evident as Canadian Angus is hosting the Convention in Calgary this year, we invite you to take the opportunity to view the historical items on display at “Angus Central” and consider donating items to the archives. Our ongoing fund raiser, “Building A Strong Foundation” is also featured at Angus Central. At any time you can add an Angus personality to “The Wall of Honour”, recognize an animal with “The Breeder’s Choice”, or have your name engraved on a leaf and added to the “Angus Roots Tree”. The support that the CAF has received in the past from all avenues has been incredible. On behalf of the CAF directors, I THANK YOU, and invite you to be a part of the ‘Building The Legacy - 4’ in Calgary this year, “In Giving, You Receive”.

Corinne Gibson President, Canadian Angus Association

Welcome to the 4th Annual “Building The Legacy” sale.I remember very well the board meeting where the format for this sale was created. It was an exciting idea that has grown to become a true testament to the hearts and the commitment of Angus breeders. Through the generosity of the many donors and buyers, we have been able to create a fund that essentially builds the future of the Angus breed, with youth development foremost in our minds. Many junior members have had their Angus lives enriched by your munificence and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With that in mind, I can’t wait to bid against you at Convention on some great genetic lots and exciting Angus items. See you there!

Rob Smith CEO, Canadian Angus Association

We are in a period of MANY success stories in our Canadian Angus fraternity, but I feel like the short history of our Canadian Angus Foundation’s “Building the Legacy” fundraiser auction sale series is one of our greatest. Suggested at a CAA Board meeting in Regina during a bitterly cold day in February, 2012, this ‘idea’ has grown almost exponentially in its first three years to support our Foundation from $40,000 (2012, Lethbridge) to $70,000 (2013, Guelph) to $120,000 (2014, Moose Jaw). I don’t know if we will ever again reach the ‘heady high’ of last year’s total in Saskatchewan, but I do know that this year’s donors have ‘dug deep’ to offer the very best, and most exciting, genetics, art, services and experiences that we can possibly hope to have. I am so excited about what our fellow Angus producers have donated this year. We have among some of the most impressive embryo combinations ever (with multiple ‘Elite’ and ‘Premier’ dams and sires among the donated matings) as well as semen on some of today’s most exciting new bulls balanced with some of our historic foundation sires. We also have services, artwork and experiences that will surely help to ‘build our Angus legacy’ and provide you with maximum benefit and enjoyment. It never ceases to amaze me… humble me… or impress me… when the Canadian Angus Foundation ‘calls’ on any of you, you totally ‘answer the call’ with an impressive donation from the top of your program or with all of your creativity and commitment to value. In the words of Tina Turner: You. Are. Simply. THE BEST. I’m excited that we are sharing this catalogue with EVERY member of the CAA this year. If you are interested in buying, please bid on-line or contact one of the volunteer sales staff and/or consultants. Please remember that everything involved with “Building the Legacy” is donated and volunteer-based. So, as you see our generous donors, volunteers and subsequent buyers at cattle events across our nation this year, please thank them; we truly couldn’t have this fundraiser without them! And as the first few people as reviewing this catalogue, I am hearing this many times: there is something for everyone! Our Foundation continues to take the challenge very seriously from those of you who donate: to create value today and tomorrow for our nation’s Angus fraternity. To that end, we are excited to have inaugurated the new “National Junior Stockman of the Year” and supported the CAA’s “Female Longevity” research project this year in addition to the many new initiatives created in 2012 and 2013. Because of the support from donors and buyers through our “Building the Legacy” sale series, we are being able to say “Yes We Can!” to a whole lot more that celebrates our past and benefits our present and future. Because of YOU, we are “Leading the Charge”! I can hardly contain my excitement already… can you tell?! And I hope you feel the same way. BUILDING

Cudlobe

Pick of the Herd: Black Bred Heifer

Pick of 150 bred heifers

1967 was an amazing year to be Canadian. It was the nation’s centennial anniversary and everyone was celebrating. It was a joyous time of rebirth and renewal and everyone got in on the action. The Angus business was heavily influenced as well, even though it didn’t necessarily know it yet, because a teenager from Stavely who had gone looking for machinery to purchase in 1966 and ended up purchasing three cows instead, calved out the first crop of three calves bearing the prefix “Cudlobe”. Dyce Bolduc, from a family with seedstock roots dating back to 1899, was an active Shorthorn breeder but was intrigued by what black cows could do for the Bolduc’s. With that original purchase of three cows for $380, $290 and $270, a legacy was born that has only grown since. The Cudlobe name started in 1952, and was registered in 1954. Dyce uses the “UGA” tattoo, while David uses the original tattoo of his father, “UF”. The family also includes Steven: “SB”; Kevin: “KLB”; Kaitlynn: “KMB”; Mat, Adeleen and Merrit (5th generation seedstock producer!): “JB” and “ARB”. And they are donating YOUR RIGHT to choose from their 2014-born Yearling Heifer pen of over 150 bred females! The Bolduc's are taking as much 'guess-work' out of this as possible! The heifers are not only bred, they have passed the rigourous selection process at Cudlobe which includes the results of their ultrasound scanning as well as complete Zoetis 50K analysis. The highest YW and Marbling EPD for females born in Canada are in this group! Cudlobe deems themselves Canada's #1 carcass herd and now you will be able to have a true breed leader in this key economic value trait, with all of the inherent quality of a 48-year breeding program. Cudlobe does as much work as anyone in Canada "On the Information Highway"... embracing all the tools your Canadian Angus Association has to assure quality and value is bred into their herd, generation after generation. They are constantly pressing the Canadian Angus Association to add more tools to assist our commercial cattlemen on added value to their breeding programs. This 'quality' matches the people of Cudlobe as much as the cattle! Their support for our Canadian Angus Foundation has been profound and unwavering. And they are showing their commitment through this extraordinary donation. What a fine example of keeping FOCUS on the real traits that influence economically important factors for not only their program but for their customers as well. The Cudlobe program is a true combination of performance, carcass traits and structural soundness. An example that is studied by many – and now YOU get to take your pick of their next generation of producing Cudlobe 'mama cows'. Please remember, this program sold 140 bull calves last fall for a gross of $1,072,657 to average $7,657. The Cudlobe brand is in demand! Dyce and David are both CAA Past Presidents and the whole family has played an active role in association development, including our CJAA. They are among our ‘breed elite’, with a compulsion to “build” our “legacy”. Please consider this unique, bold new donation from one of Canada's largest and most progressive Angus herds - Cudlobe Farms, the Bolduc family!!!

Arda Freeway

Pick of the 200 2015-born Arda Farms Heifer Calves

Pick of the Herd: Black Heifer Calf

Arda Farms – Jay & Lenore Davis and their family – are one of Canada’s largest Angus producers. They are also, in every sense of the word, a true family operation. Jay & Lenore’s children are not only actively involved in the operation, they are increasingly moving into leadership roles and Jay credits this collaborative approach to taking Arda to yet another level in quality of the cow herd and customer relations as well.

Located just west of Acme, an exciting development in recent years was Jarrett and Garrett’s decision to purchase the Freeway Angus herd, or that of Fred Noad. This purchase has introduced a whole new genetic based into a ‘closed’ herd where the only females that ever sell are those who don’t achieve the strict performance objectives at Arda; these females go to slaughter, not anywhere else. This is why the Davis’ family’s donation is so substantial; how many Canadians have had the chance to add an “Arda” female to their herd? You had the opportunity during last December’s Angus Collection sale to take your pick of their bred heifers, and here is another of these rare occasions. Given the maternal strength of this longtime operation, the possibilities are endlessly impressive. Arda was virtually ‘first at bat’ to invest in a Wiwa Creek Rush Lake 71’12 semen package; his offspring dominated the 18th Annual Arda Farms / Freeway Angus Bull Sale this past March, including the high seller to Sandy Bar Angus. Again, the Davis’ welcome you to check out their heifer calves while still walking beside their dams on summer pastures in the coming months. If you want to wait to make your final selection until after weaning, that is all good, too. Given the community-minded sociability of this family, you should give yourself ample time to visit Arda Farms and Freeway Angus; there’s lots of cows to get through and great hospitality to enjoy! The Davis’ are a VERY busy family but always make time for customers and friends with a positive energy and belief in our sector that will have you feeling so excited about this latest important achievement in development of your Angus herd – the “Pick of the Heifer Calves” born in 2015 at Arda Farms! This family knows so much about generosity of spirit and industry leadership. I’m not surprised that, when asked, they decided immediately to support our Canadian Angus Foundation with an incredible, and very rare, donation. And I’m sure that, given the stockmen abilities of Jay, Jarrett and Garrett, you will be able to solicit all three to offer their opinions on what heifer you should choose. I see a ‘fierce’… and real fun… debate in the future! All over serving YOU the very best Arda and Freeway can.

Rodgers Pick of the Herd: Red Heifer Calf

Pick of the 150 2015-born Rodgers Red Angus heifer calves

I have such respect for these folks who are, along with Mackenzie Bros. and Towaw, true pioneers and living legends of the Angus breed as the last of the Foundation Red Angus breeders to still be breeding Red Angus. They may not have been the first, but their commitment was at the ground floor, and Canadian Red Angus was built in large part by Mike Rodgers’ hands and its perpetuation carried on his shoulders, among very few others. The fact he has been able to see the profound affect Red Angus has had on the Canadian cattle industry must be extremely gratifying. For me, however, it’s even more reward that we see this program, which began after considerable research in 1970, recently hold their 42nd Annual Performance Test Bull Sale where they sold 53 bulls averaging $7,850. You will go long and hard to find very many Angus breeders in Canada with any more steadfast commitment to breeding and advancement and passion for Red Angus. Rodgers Red Angus is Mike & Ellamae, Shawn & Kathy and their two sons, Ben and Kurt. They are true Alberta ranchers who raise their Red Angus under range conditions Warner, Alberta. These are the very definition of ‘low maintenance’ cattle, from people who helped define what that actually means to Canadian Angus production! Rodgers have been fierce advocates for performance testing, often an ‘agitator’ of the Canadian Angus Association through the 1970’s and 80’s to ‘get on board’ with performance testing. They have always believed that the harbinger of performance is fertility and, to this end, no heifer or cow that ever missed a breeding opportunity and came open has been given a second chance at Rodgers Red Angus. The show ring was never a big part of the Rodgers Red Angus program, however. Mike says, “I don’t raise my cattle to suit the show ring. I raise my cattle to suit me and I’m happy if they suit somebody else. I don’t raise my cattle to cater to somebody else’s idea. That’s been our philosophy; we raise the kind of cattle we’re comfortable with.” And with their adherence to performance, weaning weight and yearling weights have continually improved. They are one of Canada’s true performance herds and it is their benchmark. Shawn suggests you take a seriously look at the daughters of Red Flying K Nebula 179X, although I think you might also appreciate those from Red CR Riser 30T. One thing for sure… with over 150 to choose from, you will have A LOT of choice! The Rodgers are totally fine with you waiting until after the calves are weaned if that is your preference; they just ask you have the heifer selected by December 1st. I recommend going to see the herd in their summer pastures on their incredible Rodgers Red Angus mamas, then making your final determination after weaning. One thing is certain… the Rodgers will provide you all the performance data you want! Having been through much of this great cowherd, please let me tell you this is a ‘shiny gem’ in deep southern Alberta that you likely haven’t travelled to and owe it to yourself to do so. I believe fully that this pick could yield your next ‘great one’; the cow herd is longestablished, the sires all high performance and with unique pedigrees, and the people as committed to the forward movement of Angus genetics as anyone in our nation.

You can use Flex 49Z, one of their Senior Herdsires, among the highest selling bulls in 2013 ($50,000 from McMillen Ranching), to take your program ‘to the next level’. He’s an outcross (a RED Net Worth!!) paternal brother to Six Mile’s 2013 U.S. Reserve Grand Champion Bull, Red MRLA New Era 87Y (from which Jared Hunter, Lauron Red Angus, is offering some embryos sired by later in Lot 138). While Flex 49Z is an impressive bull himself, as is always the story, he becomes much more valuable when you consider his progeny. The Leeuwenburgh’s had a ‘rip-snorting’ bull sale this spring – 54 bulls averaging $8390. One of the highlights was the Flex 49Z son: the $21,000 Red Lwnbrg Flex 79B to Brylor and Bar 4A. Leeuwenburgh’s say Flex 79B has unmatched muscle, superior foot quality and an impeccable profile. See for yourself: Flex 49Z is pictured here on May 19th, the day he was removed from the Leeuwenburgh’s pasture. Look at his condition. This is a prime breeding bull and an incredibly unique offer from our friends south of Lethbridge.

First semen to sell in Canada! Coming straight from Hamilton’s ‘strategic acquisition’ in Denver this year, here is your chance to get “on the ground floor” with very exciting new genetics! BSF Hot Lotto 1401 is probably the most complete son of Cash to be born to date. Tremendous thickness, soundness, bone, foot size and fleshing ability set this bull apart from all other Angus. The most popular display bull in Denver at the NWSS in 2015. A maternal brother to the 2 time reserve champion bull BSF Opportunist Z5, another popular bull from the ground up. Hot Lotto’s presence and unique pedigree will dictate popularity among seedstock and commercial breeders alike. A must use sire in 2015 to be ahead of the curve, we feel his popularity will rival BSF Hot Lotto 1401 his tremendous sire. Again… the first semen to sell in Canada! I was so excited two years ago when Rob and Bryan Willms purchased Lute from the Denver Bull Sale for $23,000. He was my favorite bull and was thrilled to know he was coming to Canada. Now you have the opportunity to purchase the first 5 straws of semen ever offered in Canada! Lute’s dam and full sister have both been crowned Denver Grand Champion in 2010 and 2014, respectively; an historic feat! Lute’s progeny have already been ‘ringing the bell’, with heifer calves to Hillary Sauder ($12,250) and Michelson Land & Cattle ($18,000). I remember so clearly that incredible Agribition Black Angus show when Roger Hardy completely dominated the show with Soo Line Annie K 6271 as the Grand Champion Female (on her way to becoming the ‘World Champion’ by winning the World Angus Forum at Spruce Meadows the following July in 2009) and Soo Line Yellowstone 6344 being named Grand Champion Bull. It was also a sweep for Cudlobe Yellowstone 80M, sire of both the outstanding breed leaders. Enchantress 425F has produced 41 offspring at Cudlobe and, when mated with Elite Sire Vermilion Yellowstone, Canadian Angus history was made. Red Lauron Blackbird 3S (Elite & Premier dam) & Red Bieber Rollin Deep Y118

3 Embryos

Lauron is honoured to donate a package of embryos from the mating of Red Lauron Blackbird 3S, an Elite/Premier female and Red Bieber Rollin Deep Y118, sire of their high selling sire group at the bull sale this year. This is a unique donation given the rarity of this pedigree on the Canadian market. Embryos from Blairs.Ag? It wouldn’t be the same without them! The Blairs team, along with Miller Wilson and Alta Genetics are the three donors who have contributed to each of the four “BTL” fundraisers sales so far. Given the whole “Building the Legacy” concept was Kevin’s from the start, he is truly, and as always, “putting his money (or donation) where his mouth is”! Please note how “Canadian” this pedigree is? I love when I see generations of ‘unique’ to the rest of our Angus global community because it represents Canada’s outstanding Red Angus producers like Wrights, Northline, Southland, SSS, Brylor, Six Mile and, of course, putting it all together, Blairs.Ag.

Lewis Farms is very humbled to be asked to contribute to the “BTL4”. They believe there is nothing more important than youth in agriculture. We are very excited about the embryos they have offered, mothered by their favourite and most productive Red Angus cow, LFE 118W. Her track record speaks for itself: a division winner at the 2009 World Angus Forum, her first calf was a member of their first Angus fall show string and then went on to sell in their 2011 Leading Ladies Female sale to Rainbow Red Angus. Her second calf is the best Red 3-year-old in production at Lewis’. She then produced the high selling Red female in the 2014 Leading Ladies to Jean Francois-Leblond and, finally, last fall Katey Tufty took her heifer calf as her pick of their Angus heifer calves and, as history repeats itself again, she has yet another ripper heifer at side now. Needless to say, by flushing her the Lewis’ really hope to get at least one bull calf! The sire to this donation was Lewis Farms’ high selling Red bull in their 2008 bull sale to MC Quantock Livestock where he is well regarded. He is sired by Northline King, who Lewis Farms believes may have sired their most consistent calf crops during his service. This bull rewrote history last year: our Gold Show Champion, National Champion, Farmfair and Agribition Supreme Champion… no other animal in history has done this. Cattlemen of all breeds remarked that 2014 was “Prospector’s Year” and, as a result, “Remitall’s Year”. And now, because of this outstanding bull, we will have many years where you will be able to reap the benefit of his genetic superiority. You could say our extraordinary bull sale season was given the proverbial ‘kick start’ when Prospector sold at Power & Perfection during Agribition for $62,000 to Breed Creek Angus. If you tour Remitall, you will see dozens of moderate-framed, ultra easy-keeping young females with tight, perfect udders and big calves; chances are pretty good, they will be Prodigy daughters. He is a real ‘powerhouse’ sire: as stout as they come, as massive in his musculature, and siring the top of the Latimer’s bull pen year after year. The Legacy females are absolutely beautiful and were the feature sire group at the Crowfoot Dispersal in 2013. They are moderate framed with extra rib shape, fleshiness and neck extension that are right for the times. I’m so proud that Chad Hollinger donated to “BTL4”; he really kind of ‘owned’ the fall of 2014 in our Gold Show program. Chad has been collecting outstanding genetics for years and displaying and selling to our Canadian public quality of impressive growth each year. Well, last year, the young man from Neudorf, SK was named “Premier Breeder” and “Premier Exhibitor” at our National Angus Show at Regina’s Agribition. And if you considered his show string, his success in the ring was not a surprise because his cattle were that good. And getting better with each breeding decision he makes! By acquiring Canadian rights to this featured seller at the 2013 Based Loaded sale, Chad and Roger Reynolds (CSI Angus) are excited to bring this extra deep bodied, cool fronted, super sound bull’s genetics “north of the 49th”! He was a ‘crowd favorite’ (like Sudden Look last year), possessing that stout, massive, easy-keeping Canadian ‘look’ in a hot American package (Hot Rod by Lookout… no one should expect anything other than style and balance mashed together with muscle). This is the only opportunity other than Chad’s sale this spring to access these genetics, so take advantage of your opportunity to “build the legacy” of quality cattle in Canada… and value in our Canadian Angus Foundation. The Adams family decided a few years back that it would be a valuable asset to the Red Angus breed to incorporate the great HF Tiger 5T. They flushed Fully Loaded 540R’s dam to Tiger and came up with Park Place 18Y. Park Place has actually exceeded their expectations with high sellers in their annual bull sale, like this year’s Red Ter-Ron Bazinga 13B for $39,000 for half-interest. He is siring soggy, soft-made offspring who have tremendous hair coats, growth, soundness, and are structurally correct. When you walk into the bull pen you can easily pick out the Park Place calves whether they be black or red. The birth weights are moderate and suitable for heifers. These genetics are new and fresh, and the offpsring are right for the times. The way that Park Place has bred really excites Ter-Ron about the impact Ter-Ron Park Place 18Y he will have on the future of the breed.

Where does one start when you want to talk about ‘a legend’? That he is a CAAdesignated Elite Sire? That he has produced 876 registered offspring in Canada? That he factors in to over 5,000 pedigrees in our Canadian Herd Book? That, 16 years after his birth, he is considered as ‘contemporary’ as a 2014-born yearling bull, proving just how ageless his excellence truly is? Indeed 104H is a foundation sire at both Towaw and Six Mile. He has proven himself a maternal masterpiece, siring daughters with incredible udder structure and milk production. His progeny are easy fleshing, maternal and highly valued. His semen is very limited and the last few straws sold commanded $1,000 per straw.

Here is a trip down a recent ‘memory lane’. When I asked Rob Adams and the Ter-Ron crew about donations for this year, he wondered about Mambo. It was ‘kismet’ since I had just been thinking the same thing a few days before! Red Knight is an extremely popular bull, proven beyond any doubt to be an exceptional sire of both males and females. He is the complete package, one of the breeds’ greats. I think Mambo qualifies as one of his greatest offspring. After creating a ‘stir’ as a calf at Red Round-Up (Champion - 2000 Bull Futurity), Mambo would become a highly regarded breeding bull with low birth weight (72 lbs. and a Maternal Calving Ease EPD in the top 8%) and high performance (WW and YW EPDs rank in the Top 15% and 10%, Red Ter-Ron Mambo 28K respectively). Mambo sons are thick and deep and the females make tremendous cows. His mother is a dream, moderate framed and near perfect udder.

Gunner was one of the most exciting bulls to sell in Canada this spring, selling for $50,000 to Angus Oasis, GA & Four Winds Ranch, TX. There is so much to love about this bull, but I think you have to start with the Red Lazy MC Star 185M dam, the model Lazy MC Red Angus female. You can’t make them any deeper or easier fleshing. She has such impressive udder quality and this has translated not only to daughters, but to maternal granddaughters as well as the daughters of her sons. Her most prolific son to date is Red Lazy MC Cowboy Cut 26U who can be found in top pedigrees all over the world. But given that Gunner’s sire is Trooper 21Y, being the $20,000 2011 Cowgirls’ sale topping bull calf, who has developed into a tremendous breeding bull, the top side is just Red Lazy MC Gunner 144B as impressive. 2 Matching Stain Glass Antique Pictures Here are two (2) 23½" x 18" x 1½" antique stain glass window reproductions, re-framed. They were made in the early 1900's with artistic designs of Charles Rennie Macintosh, a Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and artist. These are reproductions for which the possibilities of use are endless: hang by chains inside an existing window to enhance a view, build into a wall with a light source behind it.

Framed “The Red Angus” Print by Angela Davidson On December 11th, 2013, we ‘officially opened’ Angus Central, our national CAA headquarters. We were very proud to show off our two Angela Davidson prints in the foyer of Canada’s Angus ‘home away from home’, but had one feature wall in the foyer ‘blank’. We have two impressive Red Angus prints, but neither fit between the two ‘gothic’ Davidson Black prints. So when I was explaining to everyone in attendance that we were looking for the “greatest Red Angus painting in the world” for our foyer, our great Scottish friend (and CAA member) James Arnott spoke up and said, “I will get that for you.” So, using his Red Angus bull as the model, he commissioned “The Red Angus” from Angela Davidson, a fellow Scot, gave the CAA an impressive print, and provided one for a “Building the Legacy 4” donation. And I want you to argue with me that it’s NOT the greatest Red Angus painting in the world… CAA President Corinne Gibson will unveil our foyer print during the President’s Reception at Convention on Thursday, June 4th. We will then publicize this picture through social media immediately thereafter so you can see Angela Davidson breathtaking art, and James Arnott’s (really… he’s an honourary Canadian!) incredible donation. At the celebration of our centennial in 2005, the CAA unveiled our ‘first-ever’ official art: two works by artist Wendy Risdale. Now, 10 years later, with those prints virtually sold out, we have commissioned new ‘official’ art. Again, CAA President Corinne Gibson will unveil these at her reception at Angus Central on Thursday, June 4th during Convention, and we will auction off the #1 print for each our new Black and Red ‘official’ art to benefit the Canadian Angus Foundation. Grant & Lauralee, and GRP, are such great friends of the Canadian Angus fraternity, it is with excitement and pride we showcase his first “Building the Legacy” donation. Grant departed from the ‘cow’ norm of his photography business to spotlight his non-bovine artistry. We’ve had this picture at Angus Central for a few weeks now and, let me tell you, everyone who sees it… LOVES IT! One viewer made the comment, “There is no way anyone can be in a bad mood when they look at that photo!” This work may result in ‘terminal happiness’ due to its bright, cheerful colours. And it could be yours…

Signed 2013 Rangeland Derby canvas photograph & “Life is Art” book The 2013 Calgary Stampede has done down in history as the one that took place “Come Hell or High Water” due to the flooding that plagued Calgary and southern Alberta only days before “The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth”. To commemorate this spectacularly successful Stampede, each one of the 36 drives from the ‘half mile of hell’ signed this limited edition (only 50 produced) print.

Custom-made Smithbilt 20X hat Nothing says western ‘class’ like a custom made Smithbilt hat. The Smithbilt legend was born in 1919. After doing research on what type of business to open, a young Morris Shumiatcher went to his local bank and borrowed $300 to buy Calgary Hat Works, and Smithbilt Hats was born. Smithbilt concentrated on the local market and soon gained a reputation as the best hat maker around. Smithbilt made outstanding dress hats and soon started making premium cowboy hats for local ranchers. This custom-designed hat retails for $460. Thanks to the sponsorship, your cost will 100% go toward “building the legacy” of Canadian Angus.

A homemade pie from “Grandma Donna” each month for the year Experience

Grandma Donna (as ‘everyone’ refers to my Mom), loves to host. Well into her 70’s (she’ll kill me for saying that!), she just recently catered (as a volunteer, no less) to groups ranging from 200 – 500 at events held in the Cow Palace at Olds. She loves to share her ‘spoils’ with those around her; there’s a reason for my corpulent build! Well, her pies have become a very popular local fundraiser auction sale donation in recent years around Olds and CAA Director Dave Sibbald suggested she do the same for our national “Building the Legacy” sale. So here’s the deal: the buyer gets 12 pies – one for every month – delivered wherever you want them (at NO cost to you). This can be one/ month, or 3/quarter, or 6 twice during the year. Or she can even do all 12 for your female or bull sale, family gathering, or Grey Cup party. You choose… and “build the legacy” of the Canadian Angus Foundation at the very same time.

Spruce Meadows experience The Spruce Meadows Experience is for 4 people and will take the successful bidder down memory lane. Remember the lead up to and memorable moments of the 2009 World Angus Forum? Well, the buyer of this donation will get to relive those moments. You will be hosted in a Sky Box during The Masters (September long weekend) and be given a behind the scenes look at Spruce Meadows. Our ‘old friend’ Kurby (our contact with Spruce Meadows through all of our years of organizing) will go out of his way to make this a very memorable experience for the successful bidder. He further confided in me that they often use the World Angus Forum as a motivator for Spruce Meadows management & staff... to illustrate that anything is possible. “Yes We Can!” Spruce Meadows is very excited to help “build the legacy” of our Canadian Angus Foundation. Dinner for 4 at the home of Belinda Wagner You all know Belinda Wagner and the many ‘hats’ she wears, providing leadership to the Saskatchewan Angus Association, Canadian Angus Association (as our Junior Coordinator), Canadian Angus Foundation (as Executive Director) as well as varied sector interests like the Saskatchewan Livestock Association. What you may not realize is that Belinda is an extraordinary hostess and chef. She has donated ‘dinner for four’ at her home – Chez Belinda – to help ‘build the legacy’. Last year’s buyers - Ron & Marilyn Mountenay (Ivanhoe Angus) and Wes & Kim Olynyk (Crescent Creek Angus) – have been raving about their Belinda Wagner experience for months.
