From a small plan by Merv Schmidt (Belmont Charolais) thirteen years ago, “Best of the Breeds” has become a supply centre for five breeds and a “must attend” source for genetic quality... this fact is proven by the demand of many repeat customers over the past twelve years. At the onset, the plan was to supply local area livestock producers; but the plan altered, as customers have selected bulls nationwide! This group of breeders come together with one common goal.... produce and supply the finest genetics possible for their customers to profit by. The mix of breeds is ideal as they are the tools for successful cross-breeding. The powerful performance of the continental breeds mated to the British breed with high maternal and calving traits is the ideal combination for the producer, the sale barn, the packer and Mrs. Consumer. After touring the herds, we are excited about this powerful yet diverse offering of sires. Several breeder quality bulls will headline this event in addition to a strong group of ranch bulls with hair, shape and testicles.... ready to get the job done. My Grandpa and Grandma Moleski settled here on this farm back in 1905 and always had black cattle. But it was 60 years ago that my dad, when he was 20, officially registered to become a breeder of Purebred Black Angus Cattle. To this day, both my mom and dad are still living here helping everyday with the cattle. My boys, Chance and Lane, mark four generations living in the same yard that my grandpa settled. The bulls were developed similar to last year, free choice whole brown oats mixed with 32% protein supplement, mineral tubs and hay, and then in the New Year we offered them free choice silage. Again these bulls have exceeded our expectations with their performance on whole oats. Please feel free to call or stop by at anytime. The two year old bulls this year we have decided to leave at the farm due to – once sold and if they need to come back home they fight too bad and are very likely to get injured when reintroduced back into the pen.

Louie saw very heavy service here siring over a 100 calves in natural service in two years, and he is still fit as a fiddle. A good description is the old cliché’ - Guts, Nuts and Butts…in a moderate frame and he is a very easy keeping bull. We feel his sons will be very similar to their sire.

These two bulls are out of the $146,000 valued bull Believe, and these guys will be some of the first Believe calves on offer. We used Believe in the heifer pen and they were all born easily and unassisted.

Black Ridge Bulls Eye 3B Sons This is the first set of calves from a bull whom we raised and used ourselves. He was used almost strictly as cleanup in one pasture and we managed to get 25 calves out of him as a yearling. He combines SAV Harvestor 0338 and our old donor cow 60K. A neat twist in the pedigree is that her grandma was born 43 years ago – in 1974! These calves have tremendous performance, they are super deep, fleshy and have great hair. These sons of Bulls Eye have really impressed and they should add POUNDS to your calf crop.

This calf was born out on the grass in the middle of April, but his performance was so impressive we just had to bring him to town. At 188 days old he weighed 840 pounds, which should give him an adjusted 205 day weight of 910 pounds. On February 14 he now weighs 1299 pounds. Projected actual 365 day weight 1540 pounds.

From our family to yours; welcome to the 13th Annual “Best of the Breeds” bull sale. Thank you to all previous buyers and bidders for your interest in the Twin Heritage Farms program. It seems as though it were only weeks ago that we were preparing for last year’s sale catalogue! My how time flies! Looking towards our sale on March 26, we are excited with what we have on offer. The bull pen is consistent and there are a few gems to take note of as they have the genetic and maternal backing to be game changers. Our offering is catalogued by herdsire grouping and we have sons off our Hustle 13X and Soldier 41Z bulls. Hustle 13X is no longer with us, but has left us with many sale toppers and some exceptional females on the farm. The two sons in the sale will be the last natural service sons and they are both worthy for breeder bull consideration. The Soldier 41Z sons are a strong group with the typical Soldier dark red color and a solid dark foot. We are extremely eager to introduce the first set of sons from our $25,000 junior herdsire, Trigger 80B. Hustle 39D happens to be a full sibling to the 25A bull that has bred well for Ter-Ron siring some of the high selling bulls and the high selling heifer in their sale last year. His birthweight is a little higher, being three days overdue, but his dam has averaged 89 pounds on four bull calves and 78 pounds on five heifers. It was a big purchase for us and we like how he has bred with his first set of calves. Hustle 3D is backed by the popular Owyhee cow family from Chickadee Farms. Hercules was in our show string at Agribition last fall. He is moderate, thick, correct and extremely quiet. Turton sires moderate framed cattle that pound down the scales with their length of body. Welcome to the 13th Annual Best of the Breeds bull sale. As the cattle herds get larger and we get another year older, it is more important to have” hands off “cattle that take care of themselves. The goal is to raise the most pounds of live calf possible. This starts with selecting a herd sire with calving ease built in, and the performance to produce the pounds of red meat by fall.
This year’s offering is a bit younger than normal. We were into our third week of calving before we got a bull calf! We have on offer moderate framed bulls that possess the characteristics that are important to us, like calving ease, hair, growth and disposition to name a few. We used some exciting new AI sires to compliment our own bull battery. We consider Cederdale Zeal 125Z as a proven heifer bull. Winn Man’s Big Rig is a new bull we tried with a low birth weight and a lot of thickness and hair. Kayr Velocity is a performance bull for those of you who can handle a little more birth weight, but has some extra punch down the line. Finally, CSS Gridmaker needs no introduction. Our herd consists of over 100 red, black and fullblood Fleckvieh females and all our cows are registered. We are committed to maintaining a herd of highly productive and fertile females. As such, a cow needs to raise bulls for the bull pen or heifers for the replacement pen on a consistent basis or they are not retained in our herd.While we do selectively use AI, we believe in the strength of good walking herd bulls to provide consistency and uniformity in our calf crop. New for 2017, we have the first sons of BEE Phantom 79B, our new polled Full Fleckvieh herdsire. We searched across Canada in the spring of 2015 for a new polled full fleck bull and our search led us to Beechinor Bros at Bentley, AB. Phantom is an Anchor D Viper son out of Beechinor’s She Devil donor cow. If you follow Fleckvieh cattle you will know all about the success of this pedigree as full sisters have sold for 15-20,000 in the Fleckvieh Equation sale in recent years. Once we toured the Beechinor herd and saw the She Devil cow and sisters to Phantom, we just had to own him. He was the high seller at their sale that year and I believe was the high selling polled Full Fleckvieh bull in Canada in 2015.

We were looking to add some new genetics to our Fleckvieh program and where better to go than one of the first breeders of polled Fleckvieh cattle in Canada, Grinalta Farms of Alberta. Freestyle combines the genetics of Grinalta’s homo polled 102U cow with the super stout, easy calving Xander bull. Freestyle is a full brother to Grinalta’s HP Prime and a ½ brother to their Unique bull that has been used in many countries. As with embryos, birth weights don’t mean a whole lot as the calves are carried by a recip dam. In this case the recip went eight days overdue so one could expect his real birth weight would have been closer to 100 pounds if he was born on time.Freestyle was a favorite all summer as he was super stout and had a real presence and style about him. He was also part of our Agribition pen of bulls where he had many friends and stood second in class.

We strive to produce blazed faced calves with extra muscle, hair and style by crossing our full Fleck bulls on red and black cows. Pinnacle is a soft-made, deep-sided, sound-footed bull with thick dense hair and a fancy heart shaped blaze on his face. His dam’s pedigree is a combination of some top genetics of our herd, including Redstream and Louisville who produce excellent females. She then goes back to our Erica cow family that has been the most prolific of any on our farm and the foundation of our red program. While Redstream no longer walks our pasture, we selectively use him via AI as we want to maintain his influence in our program. His sons are sought after and his daughters are some of our best young cows. Rouge had an actual weaning weight of 939 pounds and continues his presence as one of the heavy weights in the pen. He has excellent performance EPDs so that combined with his size will have him produce some big weight steers and deep ribbed daughters. His dam is Leanne’s Whitney cow and she has done very well for her, producing bulls for the sale or heifers for the replacement pen each and every year.

Wecome to the 13th annual Best of the Breeds bull sale. We are very excited about the bulls we have on offer this year. We will have both red and black bulls that will work on heifers and performance bulls to produce those scale busting steers. Our bulls come from good footed, neat uddered cows that are low maintenance. At Goodview we put a lot of emphasis on our cows so you can buy with confidence knowing that the bull you purchased is from a sound problem free cow herd. Gelbvieh is a continental breed that have very strong maternal traits such as docilityand rich milk produced in tight correct udders. Gelbvieh will add that extra muscle to give your calves the extra pounds you’re looking for at sale time. Gelbvieh calves are born with vigor which is one of the reasons why Gelbvieh influenced females wean more pounds of calf per cow exposed. Use gelbvieh bulls in your cross breeding program to get early maturing long lasting females as well as sale topping steer calves. We continue to use the same feeding program which is a high fiber bull developer pellet mixed with whole oats, bunk fed barley oat silage and a grass alfalfa mixed hay. This diet develops a healthy rumen while maintaining good long term health. We target a 3.5 pound average gain to develop good footed, long lasting bulls that will last for their new owners. Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. In the case of a dispute, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final. Announcements: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.
Breeder’s Guarantee: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais, Angus, Simmental, and Gelbvieh Associations. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made. Health: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.
