WELCOME W

ith the summer holidays just around the corner, the movie studios are making sure that there are plenty of top family films to keep you amused during the long (so, so very long) school break. We kick off the month with Spider-Man: Homecoming (the first of three new SpiderMan movies), which is quickly followed by the return of

Lightning McQueen in Cars 3. Rounding it all off is the hilarious Captain Underpants. A pretty good list, don’t you think? For showtimes for any of this month’s films, head to our website at www. westwaycinema.co.uk. Pat Scott Proprietor, Westway Cinema

He also tries to return to his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighbourhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test though, when the evil Vulture (Keaton) emerges to threaten everything that Peter holds dear. The Marvel series of films is almost universally adored, and thankfully this reboot of Spider-Man is no different. Featuring a superb script, more than a few surprises and a stand-out performance by Tom Holland, this is easily the best Spider-Man film since 2004's Spider-Man 2.

Six is open Tuesday through to Saturday from 10am-5pm, and it’ll also be open during the Frome Independent Market on the first Sunday of every month. So do pop by when you’re next in town, or email the shop on info@6frome.co.uk for more information.

COMMUNITYNEWS THE FROME FESTIVAL AT THE SILK MILL

A

s you’d expect, there’s plenty going on at the Silk Mill during the Frome Festival, and there’s also plenty of variety, too. Don’t believe us? Well here’s just a taster of what’s on offer… There’s Texan Roots Blues from Rodney Branigan on July 8, a Small Publishers’ Fair on July 8, the hilarious The Regina Monologues on July 10-12, contemporary music from London’s Loop Collective on July 13-14, stunning photography from Katherine Needles with The Amahuaca of the Amazon until July 13, and the ever-popular pop-up Tapas Bar, which will take over the outdoor terrace of the Silk Mill for both weekends of the Frome Festival. If, for some unexplainable reason, you’re yet to sample the delights of the Silk Mill, it’s an artist studio project and gallery based in the town centre at Saxonvale. A former textile mill (in fact, one of the best preserved ones in the South West), they run a variety of exhibitions, concerts and workshops throughout the year – and the studios are always open during the Frome Festival and other Open Studio event dates. The Frome Festival runs from July 7-16, and for more information on the Silk Mill, head to silkmillstudios.co.uk, where you can find a full list of their upcoming events.
