here  is  usually  a  plethora  of  ac- tivities  in  which  to  participate  on  Northern  State  University’s  campus.  However,  if  you  feel  the  urge  to  get  off  campus  for  a  while  and  enjoy  all  that  the  great  town  of  Aberdeen  has  to  offer,  there  are  a  number  of  places  to  checkout  and  enjoy. Wiley  Park  â€”  An  obvious  choice  for  a  variety  of  reasons,  Wiley  Park  is  simply  the  place  to  go  for  some  good,  whole- some  fun.  Storybook  Land  is  a  favorite  for  all  ages  and  includes  a  maze,  small  play- ground,  slides,  mini  train  rides,  carousel  and  a  climbing  wall.  Wiley  Park  offers  walking  and  biking  paths  with  bike  and  skate  rentals.  There  is  a  lake  and  beach  where  you  can  rent  canoes,  aquacycles,  paddle- boats  and  funyaks.  Thunder  Road  offers  bumper  boats,  miniature  golf  and  go-karts.  The  wildlife  zoo  has  many  animals,  including  buffalo  and  prairie  dogs,  and  keep  watch  for  the  peacocks  that  wander  freely  on  the  grounds.  The  Red  Rooster  Coffee  House  â€”  Located  on  Main  St.  and  open  until  11  p.m.  or  later  for  those  late  night  java  needs,  The  Red  Rooster  is  a  great  place  to  meet  with  friends  and/or  get  some  homework  done  (using Â

their  free  Wi-Fi!).  The  atmo- sphere  is  cozy  and  laidback.  The  Red  Rooster  is  also  a  NQRZQ ÂżOP DQG PXVLF YHQXH perfect  for  those  who  want  to  experience  a  night  of  the  arts.  The  Village  Bowl  â€”  For  some  indoor  fun  and  friendly  competition,  The  Village  Bowl  is  the  place  to  go.  They  offer  many  specials,  including  Glow  Bowl  on  Friday  and  Satur- day  nights  and  Monday  Buck  Nights,  which  mean  a  dollar  a  game  and  a  dollar  for  shoes.  Wal-Mart  and  IHOP  â€”  Where  do  you  go  at  2  a.m.  if  you’re  bored  and/or  hungry?  The  answer  is  two  of  the  few  places  in  Aberdeen  that  are  open  24  hours.  Whether  you  need  hair  dye  for  a  late-night  prank  or  are  desperately  crav- ing  food  not  made  in  a  micro- wave,  these  are  the  places  to  go.  Want  somewhere  to  get  food  but  don’t  want  to  have  to  go  in  somewhere  to  get  it?  Try  McDonalds’  Drive-thru  on  6th  Ave.,  which  is  open  24  hours.  Melgaard  Park  â€”  Just  a  block  south  of  campus,  Mel- gaard  is  offers  plenty  of  space  for  a  pick-up  game  of  touch  football  or  ultimate  Frisbee.  There  is  also  a  basketball  court,  skate  park,  sand  vol- leyball  court,  band  shell  and  playground.  You  can  also  simply  bring  a  blanket  and  enjoy  some  peace  outdoors  and  away  from  campus. Twist  Cone  â€”  A  local  favor- ite,  Twist  Cone  is  located  on  the Â

way  out  to  Wiley  Park.  It  offers  a  wide  variety  of  cold  treats  as  well  as  hot  foods,  such  as  hot  dogs  and  BBQs.  It  is  a  great  way  to  end  a  day  out  with  friends.  Shenanigans’  Wings  Night  on  Wednesdays  and  La- ger’s  Chicken-on-a-Stick  on  Thursdays  (Ages  21+  only)  â€”  Shenanigans  offers  a  pound  of  wings  (barbeque,  hot,  or  double-dipped)  for  half  the  price  on  Wednesday  nights,  while  Lager’s  Inn  has  chick- en-on-a-stick  for  sixty  cents  a  piece  on  Thursday  nights.  Delicious  food  for  cheap?  What  more  could  a  broke  col- lege  student  ask  for?  Keep  your  eyes  and  ears  peeled  for  other  deals  around  town.  There’s  usually  something  for  every  night  of  the  week.  Sixth  Avenue  Gallery  â€”  When  it  comes  to  this  place,  the  easier  question  to  ask  is,  â€œWhat  doesn’t  this  place  have?â€?  Even  though  the  big  sign  outside  the  building  says  Mattress  Matters,  the  building  contains  so  much  more:  A  pub,  cafĂŠ,  Shrunken  Head  Tattoos,  Charlie’s  House  of  Games  and  a  large  space  for  live  bands,  DJs  and  dancing.  The  Sixth  Avenue  Gallery  is  open  until  2  a.m.  Sun.-Thur.  and  4  a.m.  Fri.-  Saturday,  with  live  PXVLF ÂżYH QLJKWV RI WKH ZHHN Jimmy  John’s  â€”  COM- ING  SOON  TO  ABERDEEN!  Possibly  the  most  exciting  thing  since  IHOP,  soon  you  will  be  able  to  get  your  subs  delivered  to  you  super  fast!
