Our Commitment to St Margaret’s College

For more than a century, St Margaret’s College has played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of young women. Our commitment to girls’ education has propelled our students into the world as confident, global citizens who value personal excellence and strive to make a positive difference.

Over the years, St Margaret’s has maintained our commitment to our founding value of dedication to a higher purpose, and we have fostered a tradition of giving in our culture and community. Thanks to the generosity of many generations of families and alumnae, so much has been achieved and so many lives have been positively impacted.

One of the ways you can contribute to this meaningful legacy is to leave a gift to St Margaret’s College in your Will. For many people, a Gift in Will is the most powerful and meaningful philanthropic contribution you will ever make. It is a special way to acknowledge the part that St Margaret’s has played in your life, and is an enduring gift that will benefit future generations.

We warmly invite you to discuss your wishes with our St Margaret’s College Foundation Office. Established in 2009, the Foundation generates and steward gifts and donations on behalf of the College.

It would be our privilege to discuss a Gift in Will with you, and to ensure that we can honour your intentions. To gratefully acknowledge your gift, we would also be pleased to welcome you into The 1910 Society enabling you to maintain a special and close connection with the College.

We look forward to a conversation with you soon.

Planning a Gift in your Will

St Margaret’s College welcomes gifts of all sizes. Every gift makes a lasting and meaningful impact and enables the College to realise its vision of creating empathetic, confident and connected global citizens, who strive to make a positive difference.

It is simple to add a provision for a charitable gift in your Will. You may choose to define your gift as:

• A percentage of your total estate

• A percentage of the residue of your estate

• Specified assets (stocks, shares, real estate)

• A nominated sum of money

• An in vivo gift (a gift given during your lifetime to allow you the ability to witness the impact of your generosity)

We recommend that you discuss your intentions with your family when planning your gift, and that you seek independent legal and financial advice when preparing or updating your Will.

The Foundation operates as an independent professional entity and is a registered charitable trust, governed under the direction of a Board of Trustees. Robust policies and processes have been developed to ensure the professional and prudent management, investment and disbursement of all funds.

The 1910 Society

The 1910 Society was established in 2024 by the St Margaret’s College Foundation to recognise and honour the generosity of those who have chosen to leave a gift to the College in their Will.

Membership of The 1910 Society is open to anyone who confirms, in writing, their intention to leave a gift in their Will to the College. Members maintain a close and enduring connection to St Margaret’s College through an annual lunch or dinner, special events and other activities. Your generous gift will also be recognised in College publications unless you wish to remain anonymous.

While we encourage everyone who has included St Margaret’s College in their Will to notify us, we also understand that some may not seek recognition.

"Leaving a gift in your Will ensures that the legacy of learning continues to flourish long after you're gone. It's not just an investment in education; it's a testament to your belief in shaping brighter futures for generations to come."
Diana Patchett Executive Principal

How to Support St Margaret’s College

There are many ways in which to support St Margaret’s with your Gift in Will.

The Foundation has established fundraising priorities aimed at responsibly generating and directing funds beyond the operational needs of the College. We warmly invite you to contemplate contributing to our Endowment Fund, which focuses on supporting these objectives.

Wellbeing and Student Experience

Providing students with pastoral care and exceptional experiences across all aspects of College life including sports, music, performing arts and cultural experiences.

Scholarships

Funding bursaries and scholarships that help qualifying students receive a St Margaret’s College education and supporting the diversity of the College for the educational benefit and enrichment of all students.

Teaching and Leadership

Enabling the ongoing professional development of our educational staff to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning, and recognising and rewarding the dedication of our teachers in their commitment to our students.

Building, Technology and Campus Enhancement

Continuing to improve our campus through the addition of new facilities, renovation of existing buildings and the purchase of emerging technology and equipment.

General Purpose

Providing St Margaret’s College with flexible income that can be utilised wherever the greatest need lies, or should unexpected financial needs and challenges arise.

If you are considering leaving a specific gift in your Will, we encourage you to speak to our Foundation Office to ensure that your wishes can be fulfilled, and that your gift will have the impact that you intend.
