The beginnings of Squash Systems Academy Barcelona
are due to a combination of factors that somehow aligned in a short period of time.
Factor 1: After being injured in an accident Roman had to stop playing squash as a PRO in summer 2020. To earn a living, he used his language skills (EN-FR-ES-DE-CH) and worked as a language analyst. Since he couldn't let his passion for squash die out, as a side job he was also giving squash lessons in Barcelona and was an occasional training partner for his sister.
Factor 2: Ambre (Roman’s sister) was a very successful junior player who became a PRO and quickly reached a world ranking of #68 before turning 19. Unfortunately, she then suffered injuries and had to heal and recover. She finally made her return to the PSA circuit in August 2022. To improve her game, she got the idea to get closer to a player she, but even better Roman, knew from their junior days: Victor Crouin (No. 10 in the world, PSA Ranking November 2022)
Factor 3: Emmanuel Crouin is Victor's father/coach. He has been using a systemic approach (linking cognitive, mental, physical and technical squash components) for many years to train Victor. He agreed to work with Ambre who now share her time between Toulon, France and Barcelona, Spain.
What’s the factors’ combination? Well, not only did Emmanuel agree to work with Ambre, but he also agreed to train Roman on the systemic approach. So, Roman finally decided to do what he always wanted to do (100% squash focus) and to become Ambre’s local trainer in October 2022. Roman has since then been preparing the launch of Squash Systems Academy Barcelona.
