STEP BY STEP: HOW TO USE WORDPRESS BLOG Go to wordpress.com and sign in

1. Sign in with your user name and password 2. Then click login.

Select your blog site

1. Click on the name of your blog site in the blue box.

Write a Post

1. Click on the "New Post" button on the top right-hand corner of the screen. The new post will show up on your home page. A post is like a news item for your business. It can keep your clients up to date with your business for example: Advertise upcoming events, advertise a sale, promote new merchandise arrivals, special christmas hours of operation, showcase videos and photos, employee of the month, new accomodations available, video interview with customer (testimonials!!!) It is a way for you to keep in touch with your clients and let them know what is new and exciting with your business. USE: Text, Photos, Audio and Video

How to Write a Post

Writing a post is a lot like sending an e-mail. 1. Give your post a Great Headline 2. Enter the text that goes with your post (think of it as a news item). You can cut and paste text from another source if the writing is done offline. Use the formatting tool buttons to to format text, make STEP BY STEP: HOW TO USE WORDPRESS BLOG - 2


lists and hyperlinks. 3. Add photos, audio or video to your post. 4. Save your work. This option saves your work if you don't complete the news item in one sitting. Your post will not be visible on the Internet until you click Publish. 5. If desired, you can edit the publication date to any future calendar day.

Adding Photos to your post

When you are ready to add an image to your post. Choose the photos that you would like to put into your news item: 1. Click the import an image button on the top of the screen. 2. You can browse your computer for an image or you can copy the link location of an image online. 3. Once the image has been added to your post, use the paragraph formatting in the tool bar to position the photo where you would like it to appear.

Manage and Edit your Content

are many options for managing your site including: You can Add and Edit pages, Add and edit posts or change the appearance or settings of your site in here.

Add a Page.

1. You can easily add a page by clicking on Pages on the left hand side of the screen. 2. Then click Add new.

1. Creating a page is as easy as clicking Add a new page. 2. Generally speaking, 4-5 pages should be sufficient on your website. 3. When naming a page - keep it simple and clear. Name the page in the top block of the page (where your title would normally go on a post). 4. You can also add text, photos and video to your page in the main box. 5. When you are done creating a new page - you have the option of choosing, Save Draft, Preview, or Publish on the right hand side of the screen. 6. When you click publish - your page will be officially created on your site.

Use Keywords Effectively Put keywords into each post and page so that search engines know which searches your content is relevant for. ***Use two-four word keyword phrases. Be sure to use keywords in: 1. Your title 2. Near the beginning, in the middle and end of your post 3. In tags

Using the HTML tab

On the right side of each post, there are Visual and HTML tabs. The Visual tab lets you see what your text and images will look like when published. The HTML tab is primarily use for [embedding] content like audio and video into your post. 1. Click on the HTML tab and you will see (usually hidden) code that produces text formatting, image references, hyperlinks, and embedded content. indicates that your youtube video has been properly linked in the post.

Uploading video to youtube.com

First, upload your finished video to youtube. There are many other web sites that host video but youtube is the most popular. Click the Upload button. Then give your video a title, description and tags. Use keyword phrases. You can even put the video location on a map. It can take up to 30 minutes for your video to be uploaded from your computer to the youtube website depending on the length of thev video, resolution, and connection speed. Keep the upload window open until a confirmation message appears.

Embedding Video to your Wordpress Site

When your video is complete and visible on youtube, copy the embed code. On your blog site: 1. Create a new post and give it a title. Add text to support the video in the post (body) section if desired. 2. Click the HTML Tab 3. Paste the Embed code into the post. 4. Save or Publish your Post. When the page is loaded, the video you uploaded to youtube will play on your site.
