WELCOME

I am thrilled to welcome everyone to our Source Kids Disability Expo in Brisbane. We were due to bring this event to Brisbane in 2020 but COVID 19 had other plans!

Follow us for all the latest event updates and news!

We are so happy to be able to be back in Brisbane this year for our third expo and we can’t wait to welcome you all in the doors to the event. The expo brings together the latest products, services, technology and information under the one roof, for the two-day event. We’ll be showcasing over 130 exhibitors and sponsors, along with some amazing, knowledgeable and inspiring speakers at the expo – that will be focused on giving people with a disability and their families, carers and professionals the opportunity to find and try out products and talk with providers. There will also be some amazing interactive zones within our expo making it the perfect day out for all of the family, this includes an Active Zone, three different Game Zones, a Sensory Zone to chill out and recharge in and our Info + Performance Zone with an incredible line up of speakers and entertainment including Paralypian Karni Liddell and Nadia Sunde's Twinkle and the Moon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Source Kids team, for their relentless enthusiasm and passion in making this event such a wonderful success, particularly given the challenges over the last 12 months. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and performers for their support of this event. Without these wonderful businesses and individuals, we could not have delivered such a comprehensive and inclusive event for those attending. I hope that everyone enjoys the expo and has the opportunity to explore, find, test, see and be inspired by what is on offer.

U N D E R S TA N D I N G A N D R E S P O N D I N G T O A N X I E T Y A N D U N WA NTE D B E H AV I O U R S Unwanted behaviours, no matter the form, are always the result of anxiety first and indeed, a communication of that anxiety. Anxiety, in turn, occurs when a person does not feel completely equipped to respond to an aspect of life that they are presented with. Understanding anxiety, is key to truly understanding why unwanted behaviours occur and being able to teach the skills needed for true and lasting change. This presentation will examine anxiety as the underlying root cause of unwanted behaviours, and offer a model that people can apply within their own lives, or use to assist other people (whatever their functional capability), to self-master the aspect or aspects of life that they do not feel completely equipped to respond to, and which are subsequently giving rise to the use of unwanted behaviours. Saturday presented by Kathryn Maroney (Speech Pathologist). Karni’s story is awe-inspiring, in fact she received a standing ovation after delivering her TED speech about her journey with a very powerful message. Karni was born with a neuro-muscular wasting disease and her parents were told that their first-born child wouldn’t walk, crawl or live past her teenage years. With the help of her determined parents, Karni broke her first World Record at the age of 14 and she went on to win Paralympic medals at every Paralympics she competed at. Karni has raised over $1million dollars for various disability charities and has a long string of achievements and roles within the disability space. Don’t miss the chance to hear Karni’s story at 11.00am on both days of the expo. Presented by KARNI LIDDELL

The findings were eye-opening, and one which stood out the most was that, over 40% of respondents find it hard to even define what they want in a support worker. In this session, Brad, Community Engagement Manager from Mable will walk you through navigating, finding and connecting with your first support worker. This session will be held at 11.30am on both days of the expo. Presented by Brad Grieve | MABLE
