State NAACP, Democracy NC plan grassroots campaign

The North Carolina NAACP and Democracy NC have combined forces to coordinate a state-wide grassroots organizing and voter engagement plan working with over 100 NAACP adult and youth units and thousands of local Rev. Dr. William J. Democracy Advocates, Barber, II “Souls to President of the the Polls” North Carolina faith leaders, NAACP partners, Convener, Forward and fraternal Together Moral organizations. Movement The campaign aims to build a civic engagement infrastructure that will last long beyond the 2016 General Election.

Campaign Goals • Organize voting efforts in 90 of the 100 counties, with intense action in 55 counties • Engage 3,000 faith centers

in Souls to the Polls education, registration, and voting education • Provide training for over 4,000 grassroots leaders and clergy • Register 28,000 voters by the November election • Reach 2 million voters through a massive earned and paid media campaign • Hire 32 youth organizing fellows for the It’s Our Time Summer Fellowship Program • Hold over 50 Moral Marches to the Polls for the General Election The Moral March on Raleigh (Feb. 13) will be a voter engagement rally. Non-partisan report cards will be distributed and volunteer pledge cards collected. NAACP branches, local Democracy NC coalitions, fraternal organizations, faith centers, and partners will use pledge cards to identify volunteers. Voter registration drives will continue to the Feb. 19 deadline for the March primary. Volunteers in target counties, campuses and faith centers, Summer Fellows and partners will continue voter registration to the Oct. 14 general election deadline. Town halls

How to Get Involved

and training events will educate voters on key issues (voting rights, economic justice, healthcare, education,) and the rules for voting. There will be skills-based trainings for voter registration, protection and mobilization. Volunteers will monitor local boards of elections and implement advocacy campaigns to win strong early voting plans, with Sunday/ weekends hours, sites on campuses. Seven hundred poll monitors will help voters, document problems in the March primary and general election, and coordinate the Help Hotline. The media campaign will culminate with paid radio and print ads, robo calls with local pastors, voter guides, and social media saturation linking Black Lives Matter to voting.
