ernesto ernesto I was born as Ernesto, feel as a Rose or Joan, but I’ll live and die as Ernesto.

By Skorch Latin America Editor-at-Large, Jennifer Barreto-Leyva A few years ago I was invited to this place, were drag Queens will impersonate pop culture icons as Madonna, Britney Spears etc. So, we decided to go and enjoy the moment in the company of good friends. Performance after performance I was pretty impressed by all the customizing process of every artist. Becoming for a few minutes into something you are not is really for braves. After being taken to the backstage to enjoy all of that, someone introduced me to Ernesto, one of the most gorgeous women I’ve ever met in my life. Yes, Ernesto. Unlike his colleagues, he doesn’t have a stage name and always introduces himself as “Ernesto the man who lives to honor his mother”.

As many of you know I’m a journalist, which was the perfect excuse to interview such a character worthy to love and respect, so I invited him to sit and chat over a glass of wine, the best glass of wine of my life. What came next was a brilliant conversation with a brilliant man who happens to feel like a woman. “I live to honor my mother; she is my role model, my everything. She is the most beautiful person on Earth. If all women are like my mother, why not pay a tribute to all of you?” Then the inevitable question came: “So why Ernesto and not a stage name?” He answers with passion and determination: “Because I was

Skorch Jr. editor, Terr, shares her story of dealing with bullying and finding a path to acceptance. by Terr Cacilia My weight is an aspect of myself that many people in the past have considered a burden or shame, but in reality my weight has actually made me the best version of myself I could possibly be. One of the most defining moments of my young life happened my last year of junior high school in 2009. During this time I was brutally teased, made a mockery of, and the story I am about to tell you although it hurts is one of the pillars of my “Do Only Good” lifestyle.

I had a dance partner at the homecoming. Everything to me was going through the proper motions of every sappy teen movie I had ever let melt my brain with false ideas of reality.

Being a teenager in junior high school is one of the most overwhelming experiences teens have to go through. So many new people, experiences, and hormones! During this time like all my life I was plus sized, and hell some things never change!

The boy I had been dating was very funny, athletic, and of course young himself very impressionable. His impressionability came in to play when his fellow team member told him that if he ever had sex with me the “Big Bang” would occur and the world would end. They would call me TwoTon-Terri, and on occasion I would receive text messages from various phone numbers I did not know telling me to “kill myself ”, that I was “fat and should give up”, and that I can “wear as much makeup I was still a pig waiting to get slaughtered”.

Despite my internal struggles, and outer appearance boys still did notice me. I had my first back stair way kiss, my books were carried, my hand was held at the school football games, and

What these people did now know was that my Father and Mother were in a tumultuous break up, I had recently lost loved ones, and my brother had just had open heart surgery. I

“One of the most defining moments of my life was the last year of junior high school in 2009. ” was weak and cracked so their cruel words slithered in and darkened my spirit, and on multiple occasions I tried to end my life. Each time my attempt to end my life was worse than the time before.

and they showed me how to look on the bright side. The people I met were so open, and liberated from society’s norms it was exactly what I needed to break away from the pain that was holding me down and heal.

Eventually I ended up in therapy multiple times a week where I can honestly say that therapy was where I belonged. One of my therapist suggested I join a club or organization. Because of this suggestion I found a community that I honestly admire beyond words, and has been a foundation of my happiness. The LGBTQ community is the most accepting, understanding, and strong community! At my weakest I was accepted,

I now have love and acceptance for all those I come in contact with. Even people I have never met I feel love and compassion for. I want everyone to know that I am your ally, and at anyone’s lowest I am there to support you. This has been Terr Cacilia sending good vibes to you and yours. Stay Pretty, Stay Chic, Stay Unique!

Abbie is so beautiful, inside and out, and this photo and story burst with inspiration from the moment I saw them.

Abbie says: “I jumped off the top deck of a boat into a lake in Turkey, followed by the most beautiful meteor shower I’ve ever seen. And I didn’t think about my body one bit – I just felt so happy to be alive in that moment!”

Vanessa Haro Photographed by Nichole Alex

Vanessa Haro has been in the beauty industry for almost 10 years now. While she has been published in multiple magazines and has worked on sets of music videos, she still loves to work with private clients such as brides. She takes pride in reminding women of their beauty. Whether she has a model in her chair, or a bride on her big day, Vanessa is driven by the amazing effect she has on her clients. And why shouldn’t she be, after all, she is fabulous at what she does and she knows her craft very well!

skorch beauty Q. How would you describe your style of artistry? A: My goal with every client is to bring out the best version of themselves without masking them in heavy makeup and stiff hair styling. I love to bring out the glow in the women I work on, so that they leave feeling confident and beautiful. Scott Barnes and Kevyn Aucoin are the makeup masters that I’ve studied very closely; their approach to beauty is what inspired me to pursue this career. Q: If you could only use 3 beauty products ever again, what would they be? A: That is a tough question! I would have to say CoverGirl Lashblast mascara, MAC Espresso shadow for my eyebrows, and Sephora lipstick in N.03 Tenderness. Q: In your opinion, what is the biggest beauty mistake woman make? A: The biggest beauty mistake I see is not properly grooming and filling in eyebrows. The shape of the brow defines the entire face;

too many women either over pluck or over fill. The key is to work with the natural shape of the brow, not trying to completely change it. Q: What are some of your favorite beauty looks for this fall? A: Fall is my favorite makeup season! I’m excited to bring back rich plums, olive greens, and navy blue in smokey eyes. I’m also seeing a return of the 90’s browns for lips, but in much more flattering shades such as Crème In Your Coffee from MAC. For hair, soft updos and bohemian waves are my favorite year round, but they look especially beautiful against warm knits and pretty scarves. Q: What beauty trends are you looking forward to for this winter? A: Rich crimson and burgundy lip colors look amazing paired with winter clothing. I prefer the look of a dark lip with rosy cheeks and simple eye makeup. Winter also means it’s time to bring out heavier conditioner for hair, since the cold can be quite drying, I always recommend 3

Lornalitz Reveals Her Beauty Routine

We caught up with Model and TV Personality Lornalitz Baez who revealed to us her beauty routine. She was more than happy to share with Skorch how she stays so beautiful even with a busy life and constant traveling.

On skincare…

I like to cleanse, tone and moisturize my skin during the evening. I use Boscia's purifying cleanser; it works great on my skin that tends to be a combination of both oily and dry. My must have toner is Origins United State balancing tonic; it leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I moisturize with Neutrogena healthy skin anti-wrinkle, it's great for all ages and skin types. During the morning hours I keep it very simple. I wash my face with Olay foaming face wash with aloe, and moisturize with Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Moisturizer.

On makeup…

On a typical day I like to be “ make up free”. On a day of go see’s/castings I always go for a very natural look. I recently started using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer because it moisturizes while leaving a tint of color for a natural look and it leaves a sun kissed glow finish. LOVE!!! A little lip gloss, light mascara and I am ready to go! continued ...

Beauty Routine Reveal

On hair…

On keeping the stress level I have a lot of hair. My mom has down… always said “I have hair for three people” and God bless it! I spend the most time getting ready because of my hair. I wash my hair with Tresemme and Pantene (for Curly hair). When I wear my hair natural (curly) use Garnier Fructis leave in conditioner with argan oil from Morocco and apricot. I do not use gel or mousse! When I wear my hair straight, I go to the hair salon

On Travel…

Dry shampoo is a must have in my bag when I need to keep my blow out looking clean after a couple days on set. Facial towelettes are needed when I don’t have time to wash off my make up after a long day and rushing to catch my next flight. On the go nail polish remover is awesome! I found Deborah Lippmann to work great.

NOV 2013 \ PG48 \ WWW.SKORCHMAG.COM

I love listening to music first thing in the morning while I am starting my day because it puts me in the best of moods. I also always request music on all my sets. I definitely exercise, I love kick boxing, spinning and Zumba! Lastly, and probably the most important is sleeping. Sleeping is essential for a working model. I definitely try to get at least 8hrs sleep a night, especially the days I am off work, I like to play catch up on beauty rest.

Where a Lesbian and a Transgender made the perfect match. It’s no secret Chelzea is one of our favorite photographers, but she is also a proud and outspoken Lesbian that fell in love with Terry. They wanted to set the record straight on love, labels and making it work. Their story is one of the most inspiring for our acceptance issue and we thank them for opening up to us. Why was it important for you to be a part of our ACCEPTANCE issue? Chelzea: Because I want people who may be in the same position as Terry and I to know that they are not alone. That there is love out there for everybody, no matter what their sexual orientation is. Also, a part of me wanted to set the record straight on a few things and this was the best way to do so. Chelzea, when did you find out that Terry was transgender? He was more shocked that I was a Lesbian, than I was about him being Transgendered. Was it difficult for you to essentially come out of the closet to the community? Chelzea: Not at all, I live in a Country that allows you to marry whoever you want. A Country where you aren’t looked upon as a “freak” if you are, Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay or Transgendered. If anything, dating Terry made me realize how lucky I am to live in a place that is

so accepting of every individual no matter what their sexual preference, gender or race is. I’ve never felt as though I needed to hide who I was or who I’ve loved. Terry, how about you? Is it difficult to talk about it? Are you completely open about your trans-sexuality? Terry: I’m open about being trans to the right people. I know who I can or can’t tell. For instance, where I work there are a lot of older men, and if I was to tell them, I could possibly be harmed or not have a good reaction. I find most people I tell are great with it and some I even have to convince because they don’t believe me. I’ve always been open to any and all questions people have and have been to a few college Q and A’s on the topic of being trans-gendered but definitely living in the country I really

have to watch who I tell; those are just waters I prefer not to dip my toes into and test out. You two are also long distance and in separate countries. Having been in a similar relationship (my husband is from England and we were long distance), how do you keep the relationship working? Terry: We have a lot of communication and are open and honest with each other, even if it’s sometimes not what the other person wants to hear (laughs). Keeping the dedication is easy on my part being with such a beautiful woman as Chelzea. She has definitely shown me what true love feels like. My favorite thing about her is that she is just as beautiful inside as she is outside. I remember when we were first starting to get to know each other something in my heart felt this amazing connection with her and I was and still am

We have our disagreements of course but we are very good at communicating with what we disagree with and why then solve the issue together and try not to repeat the incident. And let me tell you; Chelzea is VERY good at letting me know if I pushed her buttons (laughs).

not to do and what needs to be done to make it work. We both established at the beginning that we aren’t quitters and we both respect each other’s space when needed. I’m a Scorpio, I’m the first to admit I’m not an easy person to date. He amazes me with his patience everyday, he’s the only person who’s ever been able to handle and understand me. I believe our level of communication and honesty is a huge reason why we are the way we are with one another, that and our date nights of course.

Chelzea: This was a huge test for me, I never knew how to balance work and a relationship. Nor have I ever come across someone that made me want to change that. Everything just naturally fell into place with us, I don’t want to say it was and has been easy but it is definitely the most comfortable feeling I’ve ever felt with somebody and I’ve done long distance with most of my past relationships. I see all the time on Facebook and IG how supportive you are with one another. Terry, what do you think of Captured being one of the most sought after photographers in this industry? Terry: I’m extremely proud of Chelzea and Captured. The whole team are very talented and dedicated women. checked out her Fan-page and my mouth dropped. Her photography is so alluring. She is truly gifted and blessed with such talent, Captured definitely has me captivated. Chelzea, have you come across any prejudices within the industry on being a Lesbian? Chelzea: Honestly, it’s always been quite easy for me. Once I came out and those in the industry started finding out, you would actually be surprised how comfortable people were with my sexual orientation. So comfortable that all guards and sometimes clothes would come off (laughs). Now that I have Terry in my life, all that has changed and it really isn’t about me anymore. Most of the shoots I go to all the Models ask about Terry (laughs). The only thing that was difficult for me was when we first started dating people just assumed he was biologically a male therefore I received some pretty ignorant messages. I remember one girl bluntly said “I thought you were gay” and I honestly just had to take a

I guess you could say I didn’t want to be known as that girl who after seven years of being and out and proud that I just decided to wake up one morning “straight” or “confused”. Now, I just live life without the labels and that is one thing Terry taught me. I live and love how I please, no labels necessary. What are your future plans with one another? (seeing each other soon? for how long?) Chelzea: We are going away at the end of October for a week to Seattle to celebrate my birthday, thanks to Carter Pecce and his beautiful home with breathtaking views of the mountains and ocean. After our stay there, we then will be driving back to Canada where he will be meeting the rest of my Family who already adore him so I know that part will be smooth sailing.
