A lot in store at LCCOA

They say April showers bring May flowers, but here at Lee County Council on Aging it brings even more fun at the Center. This month we have so much in store for you.

Crafters will enjoy the events we have planned for them. Our own Terry Christian will be leading a flower decorating class on Thursday, May 9, at 1 p.m. Thanks to Kreider, we will also be having a ceramic painting class every Tuesday in May, with all supplies provided by Kreider. These pieces would make great presents for our Santa’s workshop that we will have in December — if you don’t end up wanting to take them home for yourself (we will start collecting donations for Santa’s workshop in October).

• Our Price is Right game is trying a new time and day so more people can come win prizes! Come to the Center at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, and see what it’s about! Or better yet, come check out chair yoga with Brandan at 1 p.m. and stay for the fun.

The turnouts have been SO great, and the food is super yummy!!

The event will include a Wine Pull, silent Auction, 50/50 drawing and cheesecake auction. You won’t want to miss all this fun. With its timeless humor and beloved characters, the Golden Girls television series continues to resonate with audiences of all ages. Our trivia contest will not only provide an evening of fun and nostalgia for participants but also

This community is so awesome. I’ve watched the community come forward to assist with every one of our needs as we have moved forward in updating LCCOA. Jodi and Luke Johnson from L. We just can’t thank them and everyone else enough. Caring for a family member? Feeling stressed? There’s help

STERLING —Are you a caregiver for a family member dealing with dementia? Feeling stressed? It’s important for caregivers to remember to take time to care for themselves too, and CGH and the CGH Health Foundation want to help, by offering a Stress-Busting Program for family caregivers.

The free program will provide support by using evidence-based techniques proven to improve the quality of life for family members who are caring for a loved one. During the program, caregivers will learn about the effects stress can have on a person, stress management techniques, and how to develop problem-solving skills to deal with stress.

The 9-week program — conducted by CGH Dementia Navigator Beth Sterk and Teri Shaw, Whiteside County Senior Center Outreach Supervisor — will be held from 3:15-4:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, from July 30-Sept. 24, in the CGH Clinic’s Health Foundation Community Room at 2600 N. Locust St.

April: The Historic Dillon Home Museum Tour

We will be touring the breathtaking 11-room, two-story mansion that was home to P.W. Dillon, President of Northwestern Steel and wire. The bus will pick up at the Senior Center at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, and arrive back at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

May: “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”

On Thursday, May 9, we are going to Fireside Theater to see “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” and have lunch. We will depart from Sauk Valley Community College at 8:30 a.m. and arrive back at

6:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $160 for members and $175 for non-members.

June: Tour of the Mississippi

River on the Celebration Belle

We will be taking a tour of the Mississippi River on The Celebration Belle, where a “Tribute to Piano Men” performances will salute Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The bus will depart from Sauk Valley Community College at 9 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Lunch is included!

July: Lake Geneva Cruise Line

U.S. Mailboat Tour

We will be taking a tour of Lake Geneva to catch a

mailboat tour, browsing the estates, and taking a tour of the full lake, with narration. Lunch will be on your own in the downtown area. The bus will depart from Sauk Valley Community College at 7:30 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. The cost is $110 for members and $135 for non-members.

August: White Sox Baseball Game

Join us Thursday, August 29, for a baseball game at the Sox Stadium! We will depart from Sauk Valley College at 9 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. We will be stopping at Portillos in Sycamore on the way home! The cost is $100 for members and $125 for non-members. Hoppy Easter! The Easter bunny hopped by WCSC’s food pantry during Easter week.

Veterans breakfast — We had 50 vets stop by WCSC for the veterans breakfast, where we served for biscuits and gravy. The next veterans breakfast will be Thursday, May 9, at 9 a.m.

They were ready for some spaghetti — WCSC welcomes 130 people for its free meal in April. The next free meal will be at noon on Friday, May 31.
