The backyard of the villa is kept to be having a natural elements in it as a main view from the living room and as a playground for the children. That way, there would be plenty of ways for the user to enjoy holiday.

Located on a hilltop of Wonokoyo, Malang, the area is considered as a cold area. The materials used for the building mainly chosen to sustain the warmth inside the building itself. Exposure of natural lighting is maximized to create a living, warm vibes inside the building.

Be Haircut - Kepic Photo Studio

The existing spaces was used for a receptionist and a storage for a beverage factory. As the building facade is a focal point in the main street of Cihanjuang, the owner decided to open up a photo studio business with a partnership with a men haircut company “Be Haircut”. With a big exposure to the interior of both the spaces thanks to the big window facing the street, the interior was designed to showcase the activities in both of the businesses.

The furniture of the haircut space are all custom made, with the existing concept of all “Be Haircut” outlets, which is contrast of black and white furnitures. The shapes are also adapting to the identity of “Be Haircut” typical furnitures, consisting a lot of hexagonal elements into the design. The design also focusing on the effective flow of the circulation, following the order of the service of haircut activity. That way, both the barbers and the customers circulation will not intersect against each other.

Meanwhile, the photo studio was meant for all purpose type of photography services. Therefore, the furnitures to support the activity are chosen as the furnitures that are movable and adapting to the interior disadvantages, of which it has a pillar leaving narrow spaces behind (covering an electrical pole) and acute angles of the wall that create spaces furniture couldn’t fit in. The response of the disadvantage of the pillar is to create the narrow spot behind as a fitting room. A hanging table is made surrounding the pillar to make use of such disadvantage. That way, it can be used as a place to do the computer works. The other response to the acute angle is to create it as a backdrop for model photography.

Astana Situ Mundu

3

Mundu is a place in Panjalu, Ciamis. The site contains a lake as the irrigation source for the rice fields surrounding it, and in the north side of the lake was located a sacred graveyards of the ancestors, which are “Makam Keramat Cakranagara” and “Makam Keramat Buminagara”. The graveyards are routinely visited by the pilgrim as a ritual, creating the lake side as the access to the graveyards. The district government wanted to create the lake as an attraction for the visitors that blends with the access for the traditional ritual pilgrimage. It should also be beneficial for the local civilians. As the name of the “Mundu” itself that came from the name of a fruit that grows there, the fruit of Mundu is created as the identity of the place itself.

The site is close to an elementary school, which makes the site as a potential area for the school activities such as jogging to enliven the site. As it is also designed to be an attraction to tourists and visitors, kiosks are provided for local businesses also to support the local economy. From the contrary needs of the user of the site, one has to be a sacred access to the graveyards and the other has to be an attraction for the tourists, the site then divided into two main zone. The northern part of the site made to be a sacred access to the graveyards, and the southern side of the site is then made to be the tourism zone where it has the most actvities in.

As a form of respect to the sacred area, the origin of the site was located on the intersection of the axis parallel to the sacred areas. With sun study, the origin will be shone directly from dawn to dusk, creating it as the focal point of the site.

The main entrance is built from the main street which then connects the two zones, diversing the purpose of the visitors. The main entrance then connected to the main sculpture of Mundu, parallel on the way to the Cakranagara Graveyard as a form of respect to the ancestors. To ease up the access for the merchants, the kiosks are placed right near the entrance on the Tourism Zone. Seats are placed close to the kiosks for the visitors to enjoy the lake view while consuming the products from the local merchants. another feature of the Tourism Zone is the playground to enliven the west side of the site. The north side is built with natural elements, completed with installations for the pilgrim to take rests between walks under shades. Jogging track then built along the perimeter of the lake.

Most of the landscape materials used for the furnitures in the area uses bamboo to represent the local material as the location is rich of bamboo source.

Astana Situ Mundu is hoped to be an iconic place to be a representative of Panjalu , to support the local economy and to provide the needs of local cultures.
