A TIMELESS BLEND OF PRECISION AND TRADITION Worldwide it has become the great automotive August tradition. A gathering of many of the planet’s most respected automobiles on California’s Monterey Peninsula. Raucous red Ferraris, booming blue Shelby Cobras, snarling silver Porsches or a brace of Formula 1 cars, rushing to the first corner...hold

your breath. Rolex combines its high regard for the best of the past and the newest technology by staying intimately involved with the vintage machines at the Rolex Montery Historic Automobile Races and the high-tech race cars of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, not to mention the 24 Hours of Le Mans. These are natural

associations. The watchmaker that insists on the strongest steel alloy for its watch cases and indestructible ceramic for its watch bezels on some of its models fits well with automobiles known for their uncompromised strength and beauty. And this year the Rolex Montery Historic Automobile Races come with a twist.

A LITTLE BIT OF INDY IN CALIFORNIA In its 34 years at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Rolex Montery Historic Automobile Races have honored many of the world’s great automotive marques, from Ferrari to Ford to Bentley to Bugatti. Crowds of 40,000 dedicated spectators have enjoyed watching these great machines thunder around the infield, then down the famous Corkscrew corner before winding back to the start/finish. This year, things will have a new edge. On the

list of honorees are names like Watson, Kurtis, Kuzma, Epperly and Lesovsky. Before the mid-1960s, the front-engine roadsters built by these men were the hero machines of the Indianapolis 500, all powered by another iconic name: Offenhauser. Behind the almost horizontal steering wheels of these great automobiles were more legends: Sam Hanks, Rodger Ward, Bill Vukovich, Parnelli Jones and A.J. Foyt. Just wait until you hear an Indy roadster roar.
