Player Reference Since joining the Watford Ladies YDS in 2014, Megan has adapted extremely well to the physical and technical demands of senior level football. She has always demonstrated a fantastic approach to training, allowing her to not only enhance her individual ability, but also gain a better understanding of her roles and responsibilities within a team setting. On match days, Megan has predominantly played as a lone striker, in a 4-2-3-1 formation. One of her main strengths, which allows her to play this role so well, is her calculated movements off the ball. When her teammates are in possession in their own defending third and deep midfield areas, Megan always shows herself to be a passing outlet. Over the past 18months, she has worked very hard on improving her awareness in relation to the ball, her teammates and the opponents, in order to make better decisions. Now, her sharp and decisive movements, either dropping in short to receive to feet, or a spin to get in behind, help the team play out from the back in a variety of ways and move into attacking areas. Her excellent upper body strength allows her to protect the ball in tightly opposed situations, and therefore bring supporting teammates into play. It is in the final third of the pitch where Megan really excels. She is the type of Number 9 who can create goal scoring opportunities for herself, and others, out of very little. She likes to receive the ball with her back to goal, allowing her to escape man markers with imaginative turns, or bring other attacking options into play with clever sets and through balls. As mentioned above, she has spent a lot of time working on her positional awareness, which in turn has helped her understanding of how movement can manoeuvre opponents from good to poor defending positions, in order to allow others to exploit the space created. When it comes to goal scoring situations, Megan is never found wanting. She is incredibly composed, and understands the importance of placement over power, with a consistently high percentage of her attempts hitting the target and working the goal keeper. She is confident in using both feet to strike the ball, and often demonstrates a variety of techniques; inside of the foot, outside, volleys etc. At the time of writing, Megan has scored 5 in 5, and is the currently the league top scorer. Out of possession, Megan has improved her understanding of when to press, mark, screen and drop. Due to her competitive nature, she is often found hurrying defenders into making decisions, and this work rate encourages team mates to follow suit and apply the necessary pressure in order to win the ball back high up the pitch. Her defensive posture, and angles of approach are very good, and allow her to dictate the direction of the opponents play. This in turn gives teammates the opportunity to anticipate ball movements and intercept forward passes. Megan is a very exciting young talent, who has continued to progress and develop over the past 18months. She has a fantastic appetite for the game, and is always open to new ideas, and ways to improve further. She has a very likeable personality, is extremely positive in everything she does and is a popular member of the squad. Michael Williams Watford Ladies Youth Development Squad Head Coach
