The SBA Hall of Fame As we mentioned last week, St. Benedict is establishing a Hall of Fame to recognize former graduates that have made exemplary achievements in their respective fields, demonstrated outstanding influence to students or communities, or displayed courage in overcoming extraordinary obstacles in life. The major purpose of the program is to build our sense of history at SBA as well as provide our current students with inspiration to achieve their goals. Our traditions are rich and the achievements from our SBA community are many. This Hall of Fame will help us to protect and build on our history for years to come. To nominate an Eagle for this prestigious accolade, please submit an application here by September 30th. A ceremony to honor the Hall of Fame inductees is scheduled for Sunday, February 6th at 3:00pm.

Please email Father Dexter to offer a time and day you would like be present with the Lord. Editor's Note: Hearing some of our teachers break into song during Adoration is a powerful and prayerful experience. If you are lucky enough to be able to be here for Adoration, it's a truly moving event.

SBA Weekly Sports Report Fall Sports are full steam ahead as we roll into September. The week ended on a high note for the Lady Eagles with victories in girls' golf, soccer and volleyball. Over the weekend Cross Country had some strong finishes at the Twilight Classic. SBA Football is experiencing some growing pains and had a tough loss on the road at MUS, but the future still looks bright and the boys are back home this Friday night to take on St. George's. The new Esports team started practice this week as well. Please check our new athletics website for game and match recaps, stats and more photos. Congratulations to Lauren Carter on making the AVCA All-America Watch List for top rising seniors and Kara Crunk on her inclusion on the AVCA Phenom Watch List for the top rising underclassmen.

From the Desk of Nurse Lynn When Nurse Lynn is not helping contract trace and tending to ill students, she is actively counseling students and staff on ways to avoid getting sick in the first place. In keeping, she is sharing this article on the correlation between protein intake and the immune system. This ties into a piece of advice she is commonly giving out these days: I have had several visits from students with complaint of headaches and various other symptoms. My conversation in regards to these visits seems to play on repeat- “you need to be drinking more water to stay better hydrated and eating more protein to fuel your body.” While wearing our masks are necessary at this time, they do cause us to eat and drink less. I have a 20 year old daughter who I had this conversation with on a daily basis when she was a teenager so I understand that this is a difficult topic to drive home to them. Ironically, my daughter is now a food and nutrition major at MS State! She gets it now! I consider that a W in the win column as a mom! I just encourage you to have your student carry a water bottle that they can refill during the day plus ask them to add some extra protein into their diets."

Additionally, Nurse Lynn has been fielding questions regarding the different types of COVID tests. The following graphic explains the difference:

SBA COVID Policies SBA is following the Shelby County Health Department as well as the Tennessee Department of Health for all of our COVID-19 guidelines. You can find our most current policy here. Please note that while absences due to quarantine will count as we return to preparing our students for higher learning, students will have the opportunity to remote in and keep up with classroom instruction and assignments. Attendance While we certainly hope that the steps we are taking to reduce the spread of any communicable illnesses will lower overall absences this year, we know they will happen. Whenever a student must be absent from school, a parent or guardian should call the school office (901.260.2893) or email us at attendance@sbaeagles.org before 9:00am to notify us of the reason. Upon the student's return to school, he or she must bring a doctor's note, if applicable, and a written statement signed by the parent stating the reason for the absence. This must be brought to the office before the student's first period class.

The Eagle Cafe The Eagle Cafe is back and better than ever this year. Your old favorites like the legendary cookies and meatloaf with sides haven't gone anywhere. But this year the Eagle Cafe will also feature new items, like fusion cuisine (think Korean tacos) and iced coffees from the new Java Nest. There are multiple ways to pay (declining balance cards and meal plans). Find out more about your dining options and view our current menu here. This month's fusion menu has Mexio meeting Asia with a shrimp fajita stir fry on September 14th!
