A large hospital system engaged me to assist in reconsidering the new meaning of “Safety Together” due to COVID 19. My task was to design and create a poster to help teams have more effective conversations in their daily huddles. To get the tone and content of the illustration right, I worked closely with the client to include all the data points. Over the course of a week, this illustration went through numerous iterations to arrive at the final version. This visual will be made into large posters that will be displayed at the client’s many hospitals and outpatient sites. The intent of this visual is to help team leaders have better conversations around what it means to be a high reliability health organization.

These illustrations were part of a project for a medium size business that was struggling to attract and retain employees. The head of HR and I worked closely together to get the right tone so she could have more valuable conversations with team leaders. The “cartoonish” characters brought a sense of lightness to sometimes serious topics.

In June I had the opportunity to work with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on their initiative of Preventing Future Pandemics.

Our first step in working with WWF was to define teams, roles, and responsibilities. From my home studio, I did hours of live capture with video so that the team could co-create and live design. The visual on the far right depicts the global team and what the expectations would be for their part in the initiative.

In November of 2019, I had the opportunity to support a change management team during a facilitation training at WWF. I created several artifacts we used throughout the workshop to support the team. Here is a small sample of the work I created. This work was done in an illustrative style where at times it was critical to represent emotion. All this work was poster size, pen on paper.

This illustration was done for a client workshop. Our team kicked the meeting off with a conversation and validation of the clients’ needs with respect to the “buckets and ladders” around the outside of the drawing. The clients enjoyed the presentation so much that they asked to keep the 12-footwide illustration in their headquarters. The style of this illustration was done in my branded Envision style, my default corporate illustration style. An interesting side note is that I was not on-site for this presentation as budget constraints at the time prevented me from traveling to support this engagement. As a result, I designed “engagement in a box.” Our account leader set it up and did the writing himself.

This is an example of a virtual meeting done back in 2018. My team was on-site facilitating and doing live capture, while 20 participants dialed into the day-long session.

My team used this framework to workshop a state and local entity in a one-day session. This entity was made up of large number of departments, and under the director’s vision, they needed alignment to become an “Agency of One.” We spent the day building alignment, creating initiatives, a set of capabilities, a plan of action, and next steps for them to take.

These are illustrations and pictures from February 2019, when I created and designed a framework for a Women’s Innovation Council. The value of having the content from the entire day all in one place was enormous in that we could refer back to previous conversations as the day progressed, and the clients loved it.

Open Educational Resource Project

For this project I supported the team writing the curriculum by creating personas then placing them into scenarios. The scene enabled students to reflect on how their learning in each module.
