TURNING THINGS INSIDE OUT

There’s nothing like the great outdoors—even if it’s simply a patio, deck or walkway. In all seasons, today’s area rug consumers are pushing their home boundaries with stylish, durable, and easy-care floor fashions. From hand-woven flatweaves, UV- and fade-resistant polypropylene, to natural fibers such as jute or recycled cotton, fabulous designs abound.

Zollanvari’s Caprino is a new flatweave collection woven from undyed goat’s hair superimposed with pile-knotted modernist lines. Nourison’s brightly-colored Aloha is 100 percent polypropylene in a textured combination weave. Absa by Inigo Elizalde is a superthin flatweave in 100 percent acrylic fibers.

Can outdoor rugs be utilized indoors? Yes! Spaces with high traffic, kids and pets are perfectly suited to ‘performance’ rugs. Moisture-prone areas like basements, bath and laundry rooms benefit from materials that are resistant to mold or mildew.

As we prep for spring, designers and retailers who are ready for customers looking to create the perfect outdoor oasis are sure to bring in the green!
