INTRODUCING CIERA SALAS

Ciera is a student at the University of Guam, though she took a semester off for basic training and is now a member of the United States Army Reserve. At 19 years old she has made many responsible choices. Her attitudes have changed some since her days in basic training. “My attitude has changed in ways I didn’t know about until I got back home. I used to take everything I had around me for granted — especially time,” she says. She plans to get back into college as soon as she can. “I’m majoring in physical education. It’s something I’ve been interested in after I took one of the sports classes and I look forward into furthering my studies in that subject area,” says Ciera. She comes from a patriotic background and is proud of it, she says. “I have many relatives in all the branches but it was my uncle who was in the Army National Guard that inspired me to consider the military as a possible career.” Her hobbies include baking, sports, reading and now modeling. “I could honestly tell you that I’ve been a bookworm for as long as I can remember, been into sports since elementary school, loved baking with Mom Jen since the first time I helped her, but modeling was something I never thought I would do. I have always brushed it off as I’m not pretty enough or good enough. I never gave it a chance but one day I just went for it. Now modeling is something I enjoy very much and has helped me experience things I have never experienced before,” she says.
