Millet,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, May 27, 1871. Handwritten letter by Jean-Francois Millet to his brother, saying that he has received a letter from his main sponsor and buyer Alfred Sensier, and speaking to some business interests. In the postscript, he notes that he will go back to Barbizon to work. In very good to fine condition, with splitting along the hinge, and a tear to the last page repaired with old tape on the reverse.

Handwritten letter to art critic Gustave Geffroy, one of the earliest historians of the Impressionist art movement and a loyal champion of Monet. In part (translated): “I was just about to write you that my wife is feeling a lot better. Your visit would give us a great pleasure. Why don’t you come for lunch one day next week. Please choose any day apart from Wednesday as I have myself to go to Paris on that day to consult a physician for my headaches. I do expect a word of yours telling me which day.
