Mickey’s Mellerdrammer is today considered controversial as it is essentially a takeoff on a minstrel show, with Mickey Mouse—moments after putting on his wig—applying blackface with an exploding firecracker. 1933) Appealing original production drawings of Mickey and Minnie Mouse from the animated short Mickey’s Mellerdrammer, which depicts Mickey as old Uncle Tom with a cane and Minnie as Eva. Both accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 12 x 9.5 animation paper; the Mickey sheet is marked “79” and the Minnie sheet is marked “130.” Character images measure 2.25 x 2.25 (Mickey) and 2.5 x 3 (Minnie). In overall fine condition, with a few trivial creases to Minnie sheet.
