Signed book: Gleanings from the Rostrum by A. B. French. First edition. Columbus, OH: Hann & Adair, 1892. Hardcover, 5.5 x 7.5, 299 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page in pencil, “To Dr. A. Budges, Best Wishes from Houdini.” Autographic condition: very good to fine, with light staining to the edges of the signed page. Book condition: VG/None, with some rubbing and scuffing to boards and spine. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA. Written by renowned Spiritualist, lecturer, and author A. B. French, this book is inclusive of his lectures on spiritualism, religion, history, and his own experiences. Houdini would become a crusader against spirtualism in the 1920s, exposing fraudulent mediums and debunking psychics throughout the United States. Starting Bid $300

Signed and inscribed on the front pastedown in ink, “To Miss Henrietta Ankers, with best wishes of the author, Harry Handcuff Houdini, August 9/1910.” Autographic condition: very good to fine, with central vertical creases. Book condition: G/None, with a central vertical crease to front board, edgewear, wear to bumped corners, and partial illustration listing and index curiously tipped into the front (both incomplete). Houdini billed this controversial book as ‘the first authentic history of magic ever published,’ and contained within it an unflattering account of Houdini’s legendary predecessor and namesake Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, alleging that he had taken undue credit for other magicians’ innovations. 601. John Wayne Autograph Letter Signed. World War II-dated ALS signed “Daddy,” two pages, 7 x 8.75, December 22, 1943. A loving handwritten letter from John Wayne to his daughter Toni, addressed from “Way down South but not in Dixie,” with Wayne adding a postscript: “This paper out here sure soaks up the ink.” In fine condition. Wayne traveled overseas on USO tours to the South Pacific and Australia for several months in late 1943 and early 1944. ‘Along with other USO performers, he entertained troops from Brisbane, Australia, to New Britain and New Guinea. Often wearing a Colt .45 on his right hip, he signed autographs and talked with the troops, sitting up late into the night drinking their ‘jungle juice’ and swapping stories of the battlefront and the home front.’ Starting Bid $200
