Footdee, or Fittie, is a village at the east end of Aberdeen Harbour. It was a planned housing development created in the 19th century to provide homes for the fishing community. The houses all face inwards in squares with their backs to the sea to protect them and their inhabitants from the fierce storms.

Many people assume, from the modern spelling of the name of the village, that Footdee refers to it’s location at the foot of the River Dee, however the original name of ‘Fittie’ actually derives from St Fittick.

In early February 2024, on a dreich day with a stormy sea, a group from the Royal Photographic Society made a visit to Fittie. This is a selection of their images.
