Word games are great for helping children to focus on letters and sounds and help them develop the skills needed to read, write, and spell. Playing word games with children allows them to show them that it's fun and useful. You can also find word games that are board and toy-friendly, but these require minimal equipment.

Have children guess the animal by using a rhyming word. "I rhyme with mat. "I rhyme with mat.

I spy. This simple word game is one that most people are familiar with. Identify something you see and then tell your children the letter or sound it starts with. Children must look around and guess what they "spied on."

You can use plastic letters, magnet letters or letter blocks to play this game as soon as your child can spell. You can play it with older children or with paper and a pencil. Give your children letters and ask them to create words using those letters. This is a great way to start with board games like Scrabble.

Categories:

This was a game that I loved as a kid. Are you able to recall it? Draw a grid on a piece of paper. Next, write down some categories (for example, "plants", "girls' names", "cars," or "grocery items") on one side of your grid. Then, write alphabet letters across it. You don't have to use the entire alphabet. It is important to come up with a word for each letter or category.

Hink pink:

Children love this game! One person imagines two-syllable rhyming phrases, such as fat cat. She finds a clue to lead her (eventually!) The answer was "fat cat". The clues could include "an obese mouse-catcher" and "a pet who eats too many," depending on the age. The guesser attempts to figure out the two rhyming terms. Hinky Pinky is a two-syllable rhyming word game in which happy chappy equals "joyful fellow". Hinketty Pinketty three-syllable rhyming word that is more difficult, like "mellower bellower" = "less aggressive bull." Mix and match Hinky Pinketty or Hinketty pink!

These Hink Pinks can be used to get you and your child started.

Play a game with your child where you tap her arm and slowly say the word "butt(tap), -er (tap),-fly(tap)". You can also march and dance each word, using strong body movements for each syllable. Nothing is more joyful than 30 young people marching around, chanting the words.

After older children get used to the game, it can lead to crossword Puzzles and then cryptic Crossword Puzzles. These word games can be used to develop thinking skills and provide a way for the entire family to celebrate the joy of languages.

Word Game:

Although I have yet to learn the game's name, here is how we play it. A thinks up a five-letter word. A gives B the first letter of the phrase. B guesses the word and determines if the letters are correct in the correct location or incorrect in the wrong place. B has five chances to guess what the word is.

Here's an example.

A - My five-letter word begins with D.

B - Does it drive?

A - It is not driving. There are no correct letters.

B - Is it a doughnut?

5. Wet Pet

A - It is not a doughnut. The N is correct, and it's in the right spot. The U is correct, but it's in the wrong spot.

B - Is it dunny or not?

A - It is not dunny. The U is correct and is in the correct place. The N is correct and is in the correct place.

B - Does it dunk?

A - Yes! That's it. Dunks is the word.

It is easier to play this game with a pencil and paper. It's also a great way to improve your memory. Although our family prefers to have fun, you can keep track of your score. The guesser gets five points for correctly guessing the word the first time, four for the second, four for the third and fourth guesses, and one for the fifth. There is no penalty for not guessing the word in five attempts. Younger children might enjoy 5 letter words ending with ose
