Follow us: @global_ecoforum 2015 is a critical year for the global sustainability agenda. First, innovative financial tools and economic mechanisms to support international development and cooperation were launched in Ethiopia in July. Then, seventeen ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were approved in New York in September with concrete environmental, economic and social targets to be reached by all countries. Finally, the twenty-first Conference of the Parties (also known as CoP) will bring together thousands of world leaders in Paris this December to commit to combating climate change. With now more than half of the global population living in urban areas and producing about 75% of carbon emissions, it is becoming clear that the race towards sustainability will be won or lost in the cities. To contribute positively to this necessary transition in urban areas, Barcelona – as a living laboratory for smart urbanism, environmental policies and citizen participation – is hosting once again the Global Eco Forum now in its 8th year. And for the first time, we are honored to be co-organizing this year’s forum with B01 arquitectes – an innovative architects firm about making sustainable buildings – and with Revolve Media – a communications agency geared towards fostering cultures of sustainability. We are delighted to have worked together on creating a photography exhibition about sustainable initiatives that is on display in the streets of Barcelona before moving to other cities. The Global Eco Forum also encourages solid commitment and momentum towards the Paris CoP21 UN climate conference. Our 2-day event gathers high level political, social and economic leaders from around Europe and

Engage with us: #GEF2015 the Mediterranean region to address the disruptive transformations that are reshaping the relationships between Energy, Climate and Cities. We wish to express our gratitude to our partners for the critical role each one plays in making the annual Global Eco Forum a reality. We are all sharing the same goal is to catalyze the transition to more sustainable communities around the Mediterranean and garantee a better future for all of us. With the ambition of expanding our geographic focus, we hope to strengthen the eco fora as innovative and inspiring flagship events towards a more prosperous and inclusive Euro-Mediterranean society in which all voices are heard and concrete initiatives can be highlighted and connected to others to open new common opportunities. We invite all change-makers and actors from different sectors to join our platform and to showcase their solutions. So let’s keep connected and involved through our social networks and web: www.global-ecoforum.org

PROGRAM

22/10 DAY ONE: URBAN ENERGY FORUM THE ENERGY REVOLUTION FOR SUSTAINABLE CITIES Mobility, manufacturing, housing, food, and waste are all energy-related urban phenomena that require creative solutions to reduce their environmental impact. Valuable ingredients like density, technologies, behaviors and infrastructures can enable bold progress in the race towards zero-carbon cities. The Urban Energy forum brings together leading international experts to discuss disruptive initiatives and ideas on how to promote, develop and radically transform urban areas so that they become genuinely more sustainable, self-sufficient and resilient.

14:00-15:30

ARTICIPATIVE WORKSHOPS P ON ENERGY IN CITIES* (*in parallel) Resources, buildings, waste, food, energy consumption and production, citizens… All these factors can establish a more sustainable urban ecosystem for our cities. A rigorous integration of them all can create enormous synergies, but we have to first establish clearly, which are the problems to be solved. In these workshops all participants interact to get to a shared statement concerning the specific themes.

#1 ENERGY & BUILDING:

#2 WASTE & CITIES

Powered by: Green Building Council España

Powered by: Agencia de Residus de Catalunya

How can buildings become carbon neutral, both reducing the amount of KWh they need to be comfortable and at the same time producing their own energy? And where is the biggest gap to be closed: in the building or in the behavior of the user?

How do we manage all the waste that we produce so abundantly in cities? How much of them can we recycle, and turn into nutrients for new products, and how much of it all should simply be avoided by not consuming the wat we do right now?

> Michel Wassouf, Passivhaus

#3 ENERGY & CITIZENS

#4 FOOD & WASTE

Powered by: Ecoserveis

Powered by: Danone

New technologies are provoking drastic changes in the relationship between consumers and producers of energy. How do we manage this transition in electricity networks in such a way that clean energy becomes available to everybody? And what should we pay for energy?

Food comes from far and wrapped in plastic. If we continue this we, it will continue to cause large quantities of CO2 emissions and waste. Which models (Slow Food, 0KM, Season Food) can change this system? And can adapted regulations help push in this direction?
