Birgitte Hegelund was born in 1971 and has always been an entrepreneur and businesswoman at heart. She studied languages, accounting and sales, and has owned and run several businesses, some of them in the fashion sector. She has also worked as an adviser and consultant in various industries. Birgitte has a real passion for design and development. She is keen to provide the best possible service. Nothing less will do.


Morten Hegelund was born in 1970 and has a special talent for management. He used to manage companies with sales running into the millions and has been responsible for hundreds of staff. Morten has a number of qualifications, from commerce to management training, and always strives to be in the forefront of the development taking place in the market.

These are big words, but we mean every one of them. Montar is a Danish brand that started back in 2005 selling riding equipment in specialist stores exclusively in Denmark. Montar now sells Essential, which can always be re-ordered, and Fashion, which covers new collections inspired by the world of fashion to dress the rider in style. We have grown steadily over the years, and our products are now sold in large parts of the world. The trust and recognition that we receive from our customers and business partners tell us that we are doing things right – both in product development and in our partnerships. We aim to keep it that way. That is why we, as owners and managers, want to remain visible to our end-users and retailers. That way we will always understand people’s needs and be able to meet them.

We understand the need for the materials to meet specific standards of flexibility and strength. And for the clothes to fit well – both on and off the horse. Essential is Montar’s permanent range of footwear and clothing, designed for both men and women. ­Essential can be re-ordered year after year, and one of the big advantages – apart from the good quality and comfort – is that it can be ordered in smaller quantities, so you avoid tying up cash in excessive stocks. Montar then enables you to make a higher profit on your sales. You keep your stocks at Montar, who will also ensure that your orders are delivered within 2-3 working days.

Montar is the riding world’s answer to the world of fashion Design, trends and fashion are words that used not to be associated with riding. Montar has changed this, and one of our main tasks is therefore to ensure that the rider always feels smart and stylishly dressed. Along with our Essential range, we design collections each year that are inspired by the world of fashion, while also meeting the tough demands placed on riding equipment.

Design 10 / 11 When Montar develops new collections, we make sure we are right up to date with what is happening in the world of fashion. We are hard-nosed when we tackle the finer points and decide which trends to follow in our collections. There must be a 100% match with the requirements of the rider.

And daring to move from an image of traditional black riding breeches with leather backs and replace them with a stylish pair of leopardskin-patterned breeches with Swarovski stones. Riding equipment from Montar should also fit perfectly and be made from materials that satisfy the rider’s tough demands for flexibility and function.

That means that, apart from a good knowledge of what is happening in the world of fashion, our ­designers also need to be in touch with the rider’s world. Only then will our designers be best placed to create equipment that combines fashion and functionality.
