Sandy St Ives

EXPERIENCE THE PICTURESQUE COASTAL TOWN OF ST IVES, RENOWNED FOR ITS MESMERISING QUALITY OF LIGHT AND STUNNING BEACHES. St Ives sits between the crystal clear waters of the ocean and the mystical land of the Penwith Heritage Coast. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and a buzzing art scene, the vibrant blues of the bay and deep earthy greens of the headland are juxtaposed by white sandy beaches, and it’s this combination of soft light and vibrant colour that has captivated artists for generations. The narrow cobbled streets of the town are filled with a brilliant array of shops, galleries and restaurants, which spill towards the ocean and there you will find Porthmeor and Porthminster, both award-winning Blue Flag

beaches thanks to their water quality, safety, environmental management and education. At Porthmeor beach you’ll find the Tate St Ives, which displays a stunning selection of modern art by British artists. There’s always something to do in St Ives whether it’s a tour of the galleries in winter or an afternoon spent relaxing on the beach with a good book during those tranquil summer days. A real sense of community flourishes amongst the surroundings of coastal beauty, making St Ives a sought after destination for both locals and holidaymakers alike.

The South West Coast Path wraps around the town and is brilliant for dog walks with stunning stretches varying in scenery from craggy cliffs to pristine beaches. Although many of the beaches don’t allow dogs in peak season, Bamaluz beach located on the eastern edge of ‘the island’ does and there are some great dog-friendly eateries dotted around such as Hub, The Queens Hotel Pub and Porthmeor Beach Café.

The bay of bliss

ST IVES BAY HAS A WEALTH OF PICTURESQUE BEACHES JUST WAITING TO BE EXPLORED. St Ives Bay is a crescent-shaped expanse of sea water stretching for six miles between St Ives and Godrevy Head. Here you’ll find some of Cornwall’s most picturesque beaches and coastal walks, as well as the iconic lighthouse on Godrevy island, which is said to have inspired Virginia Woolf’s acclaimed novel To the Lighthouse. There are a wealth of coastal walks, beaches and even woodland to explore spanning from Godrevy Heritage Coast to Clodgy Point and even on to the mystical land of Zennor. Godrevy is full of unique Cornish character,

with a walkway of gorse bushes that release the sweet smell of coconut when in bloom, and seals lazily sunning themselves at the foot of the cliffs; this National Trust site is certainly one worth exploring. If you’re planning on hitting the surf then make sure to stay within the red and yellow flags when swimming and also bear in mind that there aren’t any lifeguards off season. Equally, if you want to walk your canine companion then it’s best to avoid beaches in peak season, but off season your pooch can get their paws as sandy as they like.

If you’re exploring St Ives and the surrounding beaches, why not head to Porthmeor Café and enjoy a light bite from the terrace that leads directly onto the beach? Alternatively head to Beer & Bird, where you’ll find craft beer, delicious fried chicken and a dedicated menu for vegetarians and vegans – a great all-rounder for everyone! You can also choose from a

fantastic cocktail menu, and a glass of the team’s home-brewed cider comes highly recommended. Just a short drive away you’ll find Trevaskis Farm, which has earned a fantastic reputation and is an absolute must for all foodies. The farm shop sells everything from cupboard essentials to more artisanal rarities and the restaurant, with its home grown menu and seriously tempting dessert counter, is well worth a visit!
