T his year marks the fifth consecutive year for the Benchmark Innovation Awards. The awards, voted by our readers, acknowledge companies and products that have provided innovative solutions to today's complex and changing security needs. The security market is constantly evolving.

The use of AI, higher resolution cameras, and the broader availability of cloud offerings and mobile capabilities provide more flexibility and a deeper understanding of data and incident patterns than ever before. New services are being offered, equipment is becoming smarter, and new hybrid solutions are bridging the gap between traditional and new technologies. Security companies must adapt to these changes to thrive, which is where innovation is born. The Innovation Awards aim to identify pioneering security and surveillance products and solutions that have broken through known limitations, whether by developing new approaches or products and, in some cases, by redefining the problem altogether to come up with new possible alternatives.

and Benefits

6 HIKVISION

L ee Howard, Product Pre-Sales Specialist at Hikvision, explains, “This new, improved version of the All-in-one Indoor Station was launched only a couple of months ago. At its core is the built-in HikConnect App, which controls and manages all Hikvision access control, video security, NVRs, intrusion alarm, video intercom, and alarm devices. The App, suitable for Android and Apple devices, provides simple control and flexible linkage among various Hikvision Featuresdevices.

As an indoor video intercom station, the tablet enables two-way audio and video verification for entry control with the door station and mobile App.

The Allin-one Indoor Station, which comes in two flavours: a 7-in and a 10-in touch-screen tablet, is not an ordinary intercom.

“In case of requiring a solution for special needs, additional alarm outputs, such as flashing light for people who are hard of hearing, can be added.”

To avoid ‘sticky fingers’ messing about with the Indoor Station, it comes with a gesture lock, which is child safe. Users can quickly check device and network status, battery, and environmental temperature, with everything on one screen. “The station also features easy integration with third-party Android applications, adding new levels of convenience for users. Apps such as Spotify or Alexa, can also be loaded on the tablet,” said Lee. Although there is a tablet version, the indoor station is usually fixed in place at an entrance hall or other convenient location, putting the system within easy reach without requiring one to carry one’s mobile phone at home. The tablet has soft edges and a built-in comfort light to find it in the dark.

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work reportedly said that the annual cost of accidents at work is approximately $ 2.680 billion, $ 476 billion if we consider Europe only.

The video analytics software will run directly on board the camera without transmitting the video stream to a server or the cloud. If the app detects that a worker is not properly wearing a PPE, the worker is informed in real time, and the light is switched on.

AI-PPE video analytics application guarantees worker safety in all the environments where wearing PPE is mandatory.AlessiaSaggese, Co-Owner of A.I. Tech, comments, “One of the most interesting use cases we are working on is the design of a smart pole equipped with a camera and a safety light. The camera will act as an intelligent sensor using the video analytics application based on deep neural networks to detect the presence of people and determine whether or not they are wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

“This type of solution has several benefits: It is plug-and-play and easy to move and install, this is important for temporary worksites, like those over the streets or the highways;Thesolution is privacy compliant because the stream does not leave the device and we only send notifications that cannot be used to identify the workers, moreover, the device is more robust w.r.t. cyberattacks because it Preventing accidents and deaths is an excellent way to reduce costs rather than managing consequences.the

This is an objective close at heart at Italian innovator A.I. Tech. A.I. Tech’s latest product, the A.I. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment ), has been selected by Benchmark Magazine readers as a finalist for the Analytics and software innovation category on the Benchmark Innovation AwardsBased2022.onadvanced artificial intelligence algorithms, the AI-PPE is a video analytic app designed to detect the presence of workers inside the monitored areas and raise the alarm if some of them are not using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as helmets and visibility jackets. There are no restrictions on the number of workers and areas to be monitored; the app can deal with multiple workers and areas simultaneously and can be used indoors and outdoors.

offers PPE infractions prevention on the Edge

Saggese concludes, “Today, people are more likely to accept video analytics solutions even in the workplaces, especially if these solutions respect privacy and can effectively guarantee their safety. A good example is A.I. Tech products that allow for processing the stream directly on board a smart camera without sending data to external servers or to cloud services.

www.benchmarkmagazine.com/vote does not need a connection to the cloud; The total cost of the solution is related only to the device and the software without the needs to pay cloud services or to buy external servers.” PPE are products that the user can wear or hold to protect against risks either at work, at home, or while engaging in leisure activities. Statistics on fatal and major work accidents underline the importance of protection and prevention, for which personal protective equipment plays an important role. Saggese shares an example: “In Italy, legislation regarding worker safety (Testo Unico sulla Sicurezza) establishes how to guarantee safety based on the company core business. It also prescribes which PPEs are mandatory for workers to prevent accidents and deaths at work. If the workers neglect to wear the required PPE, the employer’s responsibility is to monitor and avoid workers’ disregard of the regulation. Thus, in Italy, this solution is of great help to the employers as they can have monitoringcontinuousofworking areas, especially riskier ones. In Europe, there are different directives and guidelines for the companies to guarantee workers’ safety through PPE.” Over the years, A.I. Tech has developed products that focus on building security. However, since the global pandemic, the company started working on solutions for people’s safety, like AICrowd-DEEP to monitor overcrowding situations and social distances.

A.I. TECH 4917

“In addition, construction sites and manufacturing industries have fully resumed their activities after the COVID pause, and there is a strong demand for innovative solutions suitable for these work environments. For this reason, and also guided by a POC project, we decided to invest in this new video analytics solution to enter this growing market. To give some context related to Italy, reports of accidents in the workplace increased by 27% from 2019 to 2020 and the same trend is expected in 2022.”

Noting the continual efforts to support its customers, the IPS NextGen VideoAnalytics, part of IPS VideoAnalytics solutions, has been nominated for a Benchmark Innovation Award 2022, in the Analytics and Software innovation category. IPS NextGen VideoAnalytics was launched in April 2021 to combine all IPS video analytics into one product. First of all, intrusion detection was added to the IPS NextGen VA. Then, in the 2022 release, loitering and privacy detection were included in addition to intrusion detection. The new features make the solution much more desirable. The detection of people loitering, now also integrated into the IPS NextGen VideoAnalytics, can also be configured very easily. By clicking on an object symbol previously placed in a zone, you can set the permitted dwell time for a person or an object. If it exceeds the set value, an alarm is triggered. “The new analytics is even more powerful by adding the two functions of privacy protection and loitering detection. The user benefits from a simple operation and the freedom of being able to individually configure various applications and thus being well prepared in the event of danger,” says Peter Treutler, Director of IPS Intelligent Video Software. Moreover, the number of independently adjustable rules has increased from two to three. This gives the user even more flexibility in the various application scenarios such as entering a zone, staying in a zone for a longer period of time or masking people or objects within the zone. The corresponding alarm type can be set for each rule. As IPS NextGen VideoAnalytics supports 3D and georeferencing, the software can also control PTZ cameras. All HeatPro models support temperature measurements in the range of -20 °C to 150°C, with an accuracy of ± 8°C. They offer multiple temperature measurement rules (10 points, 10 regions, 1 line or full screen), allowing for greater flexibility and thus adaptability for a wide variety of different use scenarios. And because they operate by sensing an object’s heat radiation, they’re able to capture images 24/7, regardless of surrounding environmental circumstances. That reduced expenditure is important, massively increasing the applications for thermal technology. In the past, thermal cameras were an expensive investment, but now, because of HeatPro’s costeffectiveness, thermal technology can help save on the cost of other equipment, such as PIR detectors, lights, and audible alert devices. Those devices would previously have been required as extra protection in the event that conventional cameras were ineffective.

H ikvision’s HeatPro thermal cameras, finalists in the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2022 in the Surveillance Innovation (CCTV) category, are now in their third generation. The new versions include added-value features and a low cost of installation.Thespectrum of visible light is only a small part of a large band of detectable signals, or waves, that travel through matter. The electromagnetic spectrum contains radiation from various invisible wave types, each with a unique wavelength. Thermal radiation is one of these, featuring longer wavelengths than those of visible light, and is therefore generally invisible to the human eye. Any object with a temperature above absolute zero emits a detectable amount of heat radiation; the higher an object or person’s temperature, the more radiation is emitted. Thermal cameras such as Hikvision’s HeatPro Series take advantage of those temperature differences between objects, making invisible thermal radiation ‘visible’ in the form of heat zone images.

Environmental conditions are not always ideal for traditional security cameras, especially in case of scenarios where perimeter protection and fire detection are needed. What do you do when your images are affected by factors like darkness, foliage, snow or fog, which can obscure objects or people that should trigger a legitimate alarm. One very effective solution is the use of thermal signals.

HIKVISION

HeatPro cameras provide extremely accurate perimeter protection for both residential and commercial properties. They also offer the added benefit of fire prevention with superlative sensitivity. Integrating HeatPro cameras into a wider security network is straightforward. They’re compatible with Hikvision’s online management software iVMS4200/HikCentral Professional. The mobile app Hik-Connect can be accessed remotely to get real-time fire prevention alarms. In addition, HeatPro cameras can be integrated with a speaker for sound alerts.

Double Convenience

Heating equipment, as well as combustible materials, are the main causes of warehouse fires. When the surface temperature of that equipment or material is higher than normal, a thermal camera can immediately trigger an alarm for timely troubleshooting and intervention if required. For installers, Hikvision offers a thermal design tool, which can be used to assist in the design of their system or to show a client their proposed solution. It’s an extremely handy visualisation aid.

They operate just as well in extremely low light or even in no light at all.

Thermal cameras detect heat radiation from any object, capturing images constantly, regardless of the temperature. This is an advantage for video content analysis (VCA) because it renders objects with clear outlines that stand out well against the background, even from a distance. Users can easily set up VCA rules to detect actions such as line crossing, intrusion, region entrance, and region exit, all with very high accuracy.Visualised temperature measurement helps double-check for problems and improves the efficiency of early detection and warning. The ability to detect temperature changes and trigger pre-alarms before a fire occurs can help to prevent significant ProtectingApplicationsdamage.carparks

in residential as well as commercial applications. Thermal cameras can identify changes in temperature outdoors, where a smoke alarm would be impractical. Smoke detectors only set off an alarm when they detect smoke, as you’d imagine; but by then it might be too late. A thermal camera can be a helpful supplement to traditional fire alarm equipment.

webeyeCMS could save you a year in costs

Here is an overview of the interview with Chris.

36 WEBEYE

WebeyeCMS, Webeye’s cloud-based security solution, has been nominated for the Cloud/SaaS Benchmark Innovation Award category for a second consecutive year. We spoke to Chris Coughlin, webeye Global Head of Software and Services, who shared what is ‘unique’ about webeyeCMS.

40%

Chris continues, “webeyeCMS was created to be 100% cloud-based, giving our partners in monitoring stations and control rooms the flexibility to run a business without the need of extensive infrastructure within the company or a specific software and dedicated equipment.

Customers can save up to 40% a year in costs.”

www.benchmarkmagazine.com/vote

Not having to make a significant investment in servers and complex infrastructure already provides substantial savings. In addition, integrators and installers do not have to spend time on-site configuring and maintaining I.T. resources. As a cloud-based solution, upgrades and bug fixing are done remotely and safely by webeye.

Chris says, “webeyeCMS is the first cloud only alarm handling platform tailored specifically for the CCTV industry. WebeyeCMS is an intelligent platform that uses fail-safe methods via the cloud to send, receive and monitor alarms. It’s a video monitoring solution that does not require a capital infrastructure.” SaaS (Software as a service) is a costeffective and efficient way of managing security needs. Cloud-based, webeyeCMS has been designed to be straightforward, easy to configure and use, and cost-effective.

The pay-as-you-go service also provides fault-less“Webeyereliability.hasbeen running now for ten years, and we have had 99.99% up time. WebeyeCMS is hosted in a Tier 4 Data Center, guaranteeing 99.995% uptime per year (26.3 minutes of downtime annually)” points out Chris and adds, “We are so proud that we publish it on our website; you can see it running live at any time.” Before joining Webeye, Chris worked at Alarm Receiving Centres (ARC), NSI Gold and non-NSI Gold, which were clients of webeyeCMS.“ThewebeyeCMS platform, which can be accessed through a web browser or mobile devices, is so simple to use that when we had a new person, we trained them on webeyeCMS before giving them more difficult stuff,” shared Chris.Speed is of the essence on webeyeCMS. Chris says that “An engineer can set up a system from start to finish in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.” Notifications are also super fast, being delivered to a user as quickly as 3 seconds from the moment an alarm is triggered. The alarm data and video footage are transmitted to the webeyeCMS platform when an alarm incident is detected. The cloud service processes the data and ensures load balancing to ensure vital data is captured. The data is securely stored on several servers, ensuring that the critical video evidence is retained before an outage occurs. The system incorporates the patented PADARC with checks and balances for failsafe alarm delivery. Should any part of the delivery fail, the system is programmed to bypass the fault and move to an unprecedented number of backup systems to ensure you receive the alert. webeyeCMS is a fully audited system, recording time, date and operator instantly, so when and who answers the alert is instantly logged. webeyeCMS has integrated artificial intelligence (A.I.) into the platform, allowing alarms to be automatically handled if certain conditions are met. It also includes Calipsa, a false alarm filtering platform that verifies human or vehicle activity to improve alarm accuracy.Giventhat many alarms could potentially be life-threatening, it is not advisable to rely on ‘Send and Forget’ type technologies used by our competitors, e.g. email or SMS. webeyeCMS works similarly to a monitoring station but uses automation to call and alert clients directly, allowing the identification of real threats. The system records and notes all actions and will keep making contact until the alert is acknowledged. All events are stored in the cloud for the ultimate peace of mind, and video events can be viewed for two years or up to six years if required.
