WORKING SEPTEMBER 16-17 Zikha Hall in the Hobby Center

Theatre Under The Stars’ (TUTS) Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) is pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Conservatory production of Working (2012 Revised Version). Set in contemporary America, Working paints a vivid and honest portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted. Working-2012 will take the stage in Zilkha Hall at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts September 16-17, 2016. Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers and nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated for a modern age featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, and James Taylor. A musical exploration of 26 people from all walks of life, the strength of the show is in the core truths that transcend

specific professions; the key is how people’s relationships to their work ultimately reveal key aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the job itself. IN THE HEIGHTS SEPTEMBER 13 - 25 Sarofim Hall in the Hobby Center In the Heights is about… Home, Family, and Finding Where You Belong. The first oering from Lin-Manuel Miranda, the genius behind the gamechangingHamilton: An American Musical, won five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations in 2008. In the Heights is a vibrant snapshot of three days in an eclectic Manhattan neighborhood as the residents face the changes and challenges of a world that is on the move. Powered by the sounds of summer and the rhythm of the streets, In the Heights features words and lyrics by LinManuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegria Hudes.

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS HOUSTON HELEN LEVITT: IN THE STREET Sept. 13, 2016 — Jan. 2, 2017 Beck Building 5601 Main Street One of most celebrated photographers of the 20th century, Helen Levitt captured candid views of everyday life on the streets of New York City. Helen Levitt: In the Street spans her career from the late 1930s to the mid1980s. The exhibition

september

features b&w and color photographs, as well as a short film by Levitt from the 1940s. A lifelong New Yorker, Levitt (1913–2009) used her camera to tell the stories of the urban characters she encountered. Frequenting workingclass neighborhoods such as the Lower East Side and Spanish Harlem, she documented the theater of life as it played out on stoops and sidewalks. Using a handheld Leica camera

outfitted with a rightangle viewfinder that allowed her to look in one direction but snap photographs in another, Levitt often passed unnoticed by her subjects, capturing unguarded instants of joyful play and meditative melancholy that constitute the mystery and poetry of everyday lives. The exhibition comprises more than 40 works, including three captivating photographs from the

MFAH collection that record the fears and fantasies of children as expressed in their exuberant chalk drawings on city pavement and walls. Also on view is Levitt’s 1948 short film In the Street, a cinematic version of her earlier photographs of children.

Even the menus are hand painted on ocial NFL footballs.

Del Frisco’s Grille is located in the vibrant River Oaks area, the heart of Houston’s dining and social scene. Industrial and lush elements create an atmosphere that is stylish, social and relaxed. An energetic bar creates a buzz throughout the restaurant and sets the stage for an exciting dining experience that is unlike any other American grill. The patio provides the perfect perch to catch a glimpse of the action on the corner of Kirby and Westheimer and oers some of the best al fresco dining in Houston. It’s your place to eat with a friend and catch up on the latest or make new friends at the bar.

Jack Doyle, aka “The Gorgeous Gael”, was a young man who left Ireland and became a household name as a heavyweight boxing contender, an actor, and a beautiful tenor on both sides of the Atlantic. In honour of his name, Peter Kingston & David Roche (also from Co Cork in Ireland), came together to bring a new concept of an Irish bar to America – a sharper, edgier, brighter design with a strong emphasis on exceptional food, exquisite cocktails, a strong Whiskey oering and a fantastic array of domestic and crafted beers. The Gorgeous Gael represents everything that is truly great about modern Irish entertainment culture – premium customer service, exceptionally creative, top quality food, adventurous, sophisticated drinks and the best musical entertainment in the world. One thing that has not changed is the Irish spirit of hospitality, and the friendship and camaraderie that is unique to the Irish pub environment.
