FWD: AFAN Open Meeting with Board of Trustees From: Jeffrey Hames (jeffre hameslv@hotmail.com) Sent: Sat 12/10/11 1:34 AM To: Jeffre Hames (jeffre hameslv@hotmail.com) 10/10/2011

On December 1st Chris Saldana posted and apology to the community about the event “Life's A Ball” on his Facebook profile. Then December 2nd he posted on Facebook the contact information for Bob Townsend and Dennis Dun at Nevada AIDS Project who put on this event.

Because Bob Townsend works at both Nevada AIDS Project and AFAN there was some confusion by people that this was an AFAN event.

Earl Shelton posted in response to those comments As the development director of AFAN i want to make it VERY clear that AFAN had NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS EVENT. Bobby Townsend has worked as a housing coordinator for AFAN housing… If you have other questions AFAN please email me earl@afanlv.org”

I had questions for Earl Shelton about the "AFAN Open Meeting with Board of Trustees" that took place Thursday, September 8, 2011. An important video regarding AFAN s treatment of client privacy where AFAN s Board President Patricia Saavedra stated on camera that when clients lie that AFAN can do whatever it want to defend itself. And that the removal of Jennifer Morss from the Ryan White Planning Part A Council will affect AFAN s funding. The video was streamed live on Ustream.com Sept 8th 2011 and was stored for replay until it was removed Sept 9th 2011.

Here is the exchange of exchange I had with Earl Shelton of AFAN, and Kelly Smith of QVegas.

I places the messages in chronological order for easy reading. My messages are in BLACK, Earl s are in RED, and Kelly s are in BLUE. Other then the change of color to the contents of these messages have not been altered. _____________________________________________________________________

Wh is this message being carbon copied to Kell Smith's email, and to Jennifer Moss's old AFAN email address? I though she was no longer working at AFAN.

But es Earl I am aware that Qvegas provided the live streaming. And that the live streaming of the meeting was stored on the site Ustream.com were viewers could repla the video from beginning to end. However that was not what I asked.

I asked for a unedited unaltered cop (or a place online to download the video) of the "AFAN Open Meeting co102w.col102.mail.live.com/mail/PrintMessages.aspx?cpids=1757ccf1-2312-11e

with Board of Trustees" because this video was removed the next day from the site Ustream.com. So who took down the video? AFAN or Qvegas? End the speculations and just show the truth. Posting the video back up will end its irrelevancy.

Thank you for your time, Jeffrey J. Hames

It is not something I have, it was produced and distributed through QVegas. If there is some way of getting the video it would be through her. I have reached out to her and unfortunately it has been deleted.

I cc d Jennifer because of the request. Her current role is as board liaison.

I currently have a role as development director at AFAN, I do not have a role with QVegas.

So am I to understand that AFAN does not have a copy of the "AFAN Open Meeting with Board of Trustees"?

I asked who took down the video from Ustream.com. I am not understanding why it was removed.

But you're saying Kelly Smith had or allowed the video to be deleted? I am confused why Kelly Smith would deleted this video when I sent out a letter to QVegas requesting that they keep this video because I was thinking of suing. co102w.col102.mail.live.com/mail/PrintMessages.aspx?cpids=1757ccf1-2312-11e

Kelly, I feel that you are being needlessly defensive towards me with your word and tone. I am quite confused by your reaction, as my intention has only been to seek answers to the injustices that have taken place concerning my care and others. The heavy-handed words and tone are just counter productive. I am not sure how my questions seeking the truth can be interpreted as a form of harassment. My tone, nor my questions, was offensive in any way.

My principle concern is to ensure that services at AFAN stay in place, but not at the expense of individuals being outcast, disenfranchised, or for our right to voice our opinions to be taken away. It seems apparent that this has not been the case with your publications coverage of AFAN and its Executive Director Jennifer Morss. You and your publication seem to have chosen personal relationships and financial benefit (not sure which one is more important to you) over fact-based, objective journalism.

The footer to your email states that QVegas has been “The LGBT Voice Since 1978”. I find this questionable at best. Point in case, the video of the “AFAN Open Meeting with Board of Trustees” which has mysteriously gone “MIA”, seemed to be the best representation of the true voice of community as it related to AFAN and all the related concerns the community has. It s no coincidence that this video cannot be found or has been withheld for public viewing. The message was clear and strong. More interesting was that your publication s coverage of AFAN and the related matters were completely opposite of what was voiced at this meeting. This only leads me to believe that your publication is completely, and I mean completely, out of touch with the community, or being blinded by personal relationships and cash, cold hard cash (again, not sure which one is more important to you).

In my opinion in regards to your recent email response and your actions, you have clearly taken a side. This upsets me, when an individual like you, who is in position that should be of a non-bias party as it relates to “media” coverage. Personal and professional should most definitely be separated. At the “AFAN community meeting” you said nothing in regards to the agency, nor the clients. It seems you were being impartial, just there to view the proceedings. But any time before and after you and your publication have been overly supportive of AFAN's Jennifer Morss and their Board.

Another interesting observation, each person that you seemed to whole-heartedly support through this entire fiasco is either gone from AFAN or on the way out. With time, the truth always comes out; what can t be recovered is your publications credibility.

To close on a positive note, at least I now know where to go and not to go when I want quality, unbiased, nonjudgmental, non-discriminatory, truly a voice of the community, journalism.

Thank you for your time.
