morning. All interviews should be coordinated through the assistant SID at (337) 475-5926. Interview Policy: Media interviews of players and coaches are encouraged, and every effort will be made to accomodate media requests. In-person interviews are preferred, but telephone interviews can be arranged through the Sports Information Office. Under no circumstances will student-athletes’ phone numbers be supplied to the media. Practice: As a general rule, practices are usually open to the public. Practice is the best time to reach the coaches and players at once. THE JOANNA HARDIN ERA BEGINS the SLC last season with 203 strikeouts. Last season, Allred broke the McNeese season record with 27 wins (27-8) and shutouts with 10.

Smith was second in the SLC and ranked 31st in the nation with a 1.70 ERA. Smith posted an 8-5 record with 77 strikeouts in 94.2 innings and ended the season with four shutouts.

Joanna Hardin will make her caoching debut in 2015 with a talented McNeese squad that is coming off back-to-back Southland Conference titles.

Langner will be moved to center field after playing left field the past three years.

It wasn’t a surprise when the SLC preseason polls picked McNeese to repeat as champions in one poll (SID) and second in the other (coaches). Hardin has 13 letterwinners and six starters returning from a team that broke 16 and tied seven school record in 2014. Hardin will have the league’s top two pitchers in junior Jamie Allred and sophomore Rachel Smith along with 2015 preseason picks in senior Lauren Langner, junior Emily Vincent, and sophomore Marisa Taunton. Allred, the 2014 SLC “Pitcher of the Year” and an all-region pick, led the SLC and ranked 25th in the nation with a 1.57 ERA. She also ranked second in

In 2014, Langner led the team with 67 hits, four triples, 12 sacrifice bunts, and tied for a team high 11 doubles. She was second on the team with a .372 batting average, .421 on base percent, 10 stolen bases, 41 RBI, and ranked ith in the nation in toughest to strikeout. Vincent will either pitch or play in the outfield again this season. Last season, Vincent tied Langner for a team high 11 doubles ans was second on the team with 34 RBI and 22 walks. Vincent batted .294 with a .396 on base percent. In the circle, Vincent, led the SLC and ranked 10th in the nation with five saves. She appeared in 19 games, posted a 4-3 record with 33 strikeouts in 46 innings. 2

Taunton tied for third on the team with a .354 batting average while producing the program’s third longest hitting streak of 13 games. She also picked up 36 hits, scored 25 runs along with 19 RBI. The Cowgirls also return starters in Dakota Matiko, Taylor Goree, and Lakeyn Fontenot. Matiko will take over at first base after the graduation of Kim Kennedy. Goree will move from second base to shortstop replacing four-year starter Katie Roux. Fontenot will enter her second season as the Cowgirls’ starting third baseman. The 2015 schedule is one of the toughest in recent years. McNeese will play 10 teams that took part in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Of those 10 teams, four teams (Alabama, Oklahoma, ULLafayette, Baylor) made it to the World Series. Seven teams on the Cowgirl schedule were ranked in the USA Today/ NFCA Preseason Poll (#3 Alabama, #4 Oklahoma, #9 UL-Lafayette, #10 Baylor, #19 LSU, #23 South Alabama, and #25 DePaul). Hofstra also received votes in the preseason poll. McNeese will take part in four regular season tournaments including its own Cowgirl Classic. The Cowgirls will begin their season facing two

nationally ranked teams at the South Alabama Sand Dollar Classic Feb. 6-8. McNeese will face Florida Gulf Coast to open the season then will take on Florida International on the first day of the tournament. McNeese will also face Southern Miss and South Alabama before concluding tournament play against Alabama. McNeese will also take part in the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational as well as the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajun Classic. As part of the Ragin’ Cajun

Classic, McNeese will host Missouri State in its home opener. The Cowgirl Classic is scheduled for Feb. 27-March 1. Memphis, Texas Tech and Holy Cross will make up the tournament field. Cowgirl fans will get a chance to see three teams that made it to the 2014 College World Series as UL-Lafayette, Baylor, and LSU will visit Cowgirl Diamond. McNeese will also host Utah, Holy Cross, and Louisiana Tech in non-conference action.

Southland Conference series that will be played at Cowgirl Diamond include games against Sam Houston State, Houston Baptist, Northwestern State, and Lamar. The Cowgirls will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian, Nicholls, Southeastern La., and Central Arkansas for SLC series. McNeese will travel to UTSA, Texas State and will play Oklahoma in Baton Rouge in non-conference road games.

JOANNA HARDIN

Head Coach 1st Year

Joanna Hardin, a key element in the sustained success of the McNeese Cowgirl softball program that has won back-to-back Southland Conference championships, was named head coach last June. Hardin, a native of Fullerton, Calif., has spearheaded the Cowgirl pitching staff the last two seasons, both of which led the Southland in numerous team and individual pitching statistical categories as well as ranking high among the NCAA leaders. In addition, the Cowgirls broke or tied a total of 23 school or conference records in 2014. Hardin joined the McNeese staff in 2013 and guided the pitchers to a Top 10 national ranking and No. 1 spot in the Southland in team ERA with a 1.79 mark. That squad also led the league in opponent batting average (.220), saves (6), hits allowed (294), runs allowed (122), earned runs allowed (91), walks allowed (53) and extra-base hits allowed (63). Individually, Hardin helped develop the league’s top pitcher in Megan Bond, who topped the conference in ERA (1.27), opponent batting average (.200), and saves (3) in 2013. The success continued in 2014 as the Cowgirls won a school record 41 games en route to their second straight league title. Sophomore starting pitcher Jamie Allred, the 2014 SLC Pitcher of the Year, set a new school record with 27 victories as well as throwing 10 shutouts in the season. Her exceptional play helped boast the Cowgirls to a league No. 1 ranking in 12 team categories including ERA (1.86), strikeouts (324) and hits allowed (293), just to name a few. In addition to the team success on offense, Cowgirl senior Alanna DiVittorio broke a combined nine school and conference records in the season including season records in runs scored, walks and stolen bases as well as career records in runs scored and walks. DiVittorio, the league’s player and hitter of the year, also became just the second McNeese softball player to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors when she was voted onto the second team. Hardin will inherit a talented squad for her inaugural season as head coach as the Cowgirls will return a total of six players that were named to the all-conference squad, including Allred on the mound. ”We have tremendous young women in our program,” said Hardin. “The goals and expectations will remain the same as they have been – to be champions on and off the field. I’m ready to get to work!” Hardin began her coaching career as the head coach at Whittier Christian High School, in La Habra, Calif., from 2005-07 and helped guide the Heralds to an Olympic League Championship Title in 2006. From 2007-09, Hardin served as assistant coach at Liberty University (Lynchburg, Va.) where she oversaw the pitching staff, conducted camps and clinics, and organized daily practices. In her two years at Liberty, the team finished the 2008 and 2009 season as the Big South Conference Tournament Runners-up. Under her tutelage, Tiffani Smith (2011 graduate), was selected to the All-Big South Conference First Team as a sophomore year, the first Flame to receive such honor since 2001. After earning her Master’s Degree from Liberty University, Hardin started and coached a successful 12U/14U travel team, The Virginia Titans, in 2009. In 2010, while coaching the Titans, she served as head coach at Jefferson Forest High School where she led the Lady Cavaliers to the 2012 Seminole District Tournament Championship, a Virginia High School League Region III runner-up finish, and advancing the Lady Cavs to the VHSL State quarterfinals. In 2010, while coaching club and high school softball, Hardin opened and managed an indoor softball training facility in Virginia called “The Compound” where she worked primarily as a pitching and hitting instructor.

JAMES LANDRENEAU

Assistant Coach 3rd Year

James Landreneau is in his third year as an assistant coach, serving as the hitting coach. Landreneau was a key component of McNeeseâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s success on offense for the past two years. The Cowgirls set new single-season records with runs scored (298) and onbase percentage (.366) while tying records in triples (13) and hit-by-pitches (33) in 2014. He coached the 2014 Southland Conference Player and Hittter of the Year in Alanna DiVittorio. DiVittorio broke a combined nine McNeese and SLC records as a senior. In 2014, the Cowgirls ranked second in the SLC with a .963 fielding percent and ranked third with a .289 batting average. The Cowgirls led the conference and ranked 19th in the nation in doubles. McNeese also led the SLC with a .425 slugging percent, and 100 stolen bases, ranking McNeese 17th in the nation. In 2013, the Cowgirls posted a .968 fielding percent which ranked 36th in the nation. The Cowgirls also had a .274 team batting average and ranked fourth in the SLC with 61 doubles. Landreneau is a native of Lake Charles where for 13 years he has served as the owner and founder of Bullet baseball and softball. During this time, he has been responsible for running the baseball/softball academy as well as managing 15 travel baseball and softball teams. He has seen his organization win over 13 state and four national championships. Landreneau has also produced over 50 college athletes in addition to six professional players. Landreneau served as an assistant softball coach at Barbe High where he was part of a Lady Bucs team that won two district championships (2011, 2012). The Lady Bucs advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament in 2011 and quarterfinals in 2012. Landreneau is a native of Mamou, La. who has lived in Lake Charles for the last 17 years. He resides in Lake Charles with his two children, Aubrey (12) and Jackson (9).

TAYL’R HOLLIS

Assistant Coach First Year

Former LSU standout Tayl’r Hollis is the newest member of the Cowgirl coaching staff, being named assistant coach last July. Hollis will serve as the recruiting coordinator and will be in charge of the outfield. Hollis, a native of Lafayette, comes to McNeese from Southern where she spent the 2014 season as an assistant coach, serving as the pitching and conditioning coach as well as assisting with the defense. Hollis will serve as the Cowgirls' recruiting coordinator. Prior to Southern, Hollis was at Feather River Junior College, in Quincy, Calf. While at Feather River College, Hollis served one year as the head softball coach and associate faculty member. Prior to that she was assistant coach. During her time there, she helped take the team to the 2012 Regional Champions, 2012 Super Regional and an appearance in the 2013 Regionals. Under Hollis’ leadership, one player was selected All Nor Cal Team, six players selected first Team All Conference and two players selected second team All-Conference. Her team led California State Junior College in hits (413), doubles (99), batting average (.379) and on base percentage (439). Hollis has a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Mississippi College and received her bachelor’s from Louisiana State University and was a member of the softball team in 2007 and 2008. Hollis began her collegiate playing career at Oklahoma in 2005 before transferring to LSU. During Hollis’ time at LSU she earned All-American Amateur Softball Association of America National Champions 23-andUnder Virginia Legends in 2008, 2008 All Tournament Team Tiger Classic and 2008 Easton Classic All Tournament Most Valuable Player. Hollis attended St. Thomas More High where she was a member of the 2001 and 2002 state championship and the 2003 Bi-District championship teams. She played on four district championship teams and was a four-time all-district, All-Acadiana and All-State pick.

JENNIE FINCH-DAIGLE

Volunteer Coach First Year

Former All-American Jennie Finch-Daigle will serve as a volunteer coach for the Cowgirls in 2014, working with the pitchers. Finch, a native of La Mirada, California, was a pitcher and first-baseman for the University of Arizona, the USA national softball team and the Chicago Bandits. Finch won the 2001 Women's College World Series and helped lead Team USA to the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Time magazine described her as the most famous softball player in history. In 2010, Finch retired from softball to focus on her family. In August 2011 she started work as a color analyst for ESPN doing National Pro Fastpitch and college softball games. Finch began her career by achieving a career high in doubles and throwing her first career no-hitter during the 1999 NCAA tournament against Texas State. Despite making the World Series, the Wildcats were eventually eliminated by DePaul. As a sophomore year, Finch was named a 2000 NFCA First Team All-American and First Team AllPac 10. She also threw three no-hitters and led the Wildcats in home runs and slugging percentage and achieved a career best in hits and batting average. Finch began the year with a 21 consecutive game win streak. After suffering her only losses in back-to-back games, Finch finished the year 8–0 starting a new streak against the Oregon Ducks that would span the next two seasons. Finch's 29th win, a World Series victory over the No. 1 seeded Washington Huskies, began a 35 scoreless inning streak, after allowing runs in the fourth inning she pitched a shutout the rest of the way for a 4–2 win. As a junior in 2001, Finch was once again named NFCA First Team and All-Pac 10, adding the Pitcher of The Year award to her resume. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award for Softball Player of The Year. Finch's season ERA, wins and shutouts were and still do rank among the Top 10 at Arizona. Along with a no-hitter and career highs in WHIP and RBIs, Finch opened the season with 31 consecutive scoreless innings spanning 6 wins that combined with the innings from her last game in 2000, was a career best 35 before being snapped in the second inning by a lead off home run vs. McNeese State. On March 30, Finch hit two home runs and a double in an 11–1 romp of the Oregon to drive in a career best 9 RBIs, which tied her third all-time in the NCAA for a single game. Finch and the Wildcats were the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and made it to the World Series for a third straight year with Finch on the mound. She recorded victories over California and Oklahoma to reach the finals. In a 1–0 shutout against UCLA, Finch set an NCAA record with a perfect season capped with the National Championship. Finch also had a hit in the game and was named MVP for the series. The victory extended her win streak to 40 consecutive games along with the 8 to end the 2000 season. In her final season, Finch was named 2002 First Team for the NCAA and the Pac 10 conference as well as Pitcher of The Year and Honda Player of The Year. Finch tossed 3 no-hitters and broke the season strikeouts record, while her wins and shutouts were and remain Top-10 school records. Against Cal State Fullerton, Finch matched her own record of 35 consecutive scoreless innings that was broken in a 13–1 mercy win over Northern Iowa. Finch set several records in single games beginning with a new NCAA record by winning her 51st consecutive game in the 6–0 victory over Cal State Northridge. For one of her no-hitters, Finch posted her 100th career victory over Notre Dame and struck out 15 against UL-Lafayette for a career best. Finch tied a then school record of 19 strikeouts with a 1-0, 9 inning shutout against Oklahoma. The Wildcat then beat the UCLA to start the year 20–0 and set an NCAA record with 60 straight wins dating back to the 2000 season, as Finch would lose her next decision. To open a return trip to the WCWS as defending champion, Finch shutout Nebraska and ended the game with her 1,000th career strikeout. In the semifinals of the World Series, Finch hit her 50th career home run to score the winning run and help herself beat the Florida State in 11 innings. The Wildcats suffered a 6–0 loss in the championship game to California. Finch left the program as the career leader in strikeouts, shutouts, innings pitched and tied for no-hitters (8), while ranking in the Top-10 in most other pitching categories. She also ranked in the Top-10 in home runs, RBIs and walks. Finch remains ranked in the Top-10 in several pitching and walks all-time lists. She is currently ranked 7th in career winning percentage (0.881%). Her no. 27 jersey number was retired by the University of Arizona on May 9, 2003.

After spending the last four years as the Cowgirls’ starting shortstop, Katie Roux will remain with the team, serving as a student coach. Roux, a native of Denham Springs, Louisiana, was an all-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana honorable mention selection in 2011. Roux was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll all four years and was named to the SLC all-academic team three years. In 2014, Roux batted .242 with 37 hits, 10 doubles, 23 RBI, 14 walks, and four home runs.

Tori Rich is also in her first season as a student coach after playing for the Cowgirls the past two years. The Fresno, California native was a member of the Commissioner’s Honor Roll both years with the Cowgirls. As a senior, Rich collected eight hits, six RBI, and scored 12 runs. In her junior season, she was fifth on the team with a .259 batting average and tied for fourth with 21 runs scored.

Dr. Philip C. Williams University President

Dr. Williams earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina, graduating with honors in history. He earned his law degree at the Columbia University School of Law in New York City. During the course of his legal profession, he practiced corporate law and served as administrative vice president and counsel for Sea World, Inc. During the 1980’s he and his wife Sandra were active writers, publishing a series of children’s mysteries, adult mysteries, and non-fiction works. In 1994, Dr. Williams returned to Chapel Hill to earn his M.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees in Health Policy and Administration. He served for one year as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, then accepted a faculty position at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, where he taught health law and management courses in the College of Business and was appointed to serve as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. He joined the staff of Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2003 as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, and in 2006 he became President of the University of Montevallo in Alabama. In the spring of 2010 he was selected to serve as the 6th President of McNeese State University. Since his arrival at McNeese, he has presided over the development of a new strategic plan, which features the promotion of innovative teaching and learning, regional partnerships, service-learning opportunities, applied research, cultural engagement, and athletic excellence. He has frequently stated his desire for McNeese to play an active role in the civic and economic renaissance likely to transform Southwest Louisiana over the next five years.

McNeese Facts • Established in 1939, McNeese State has an enrollment of 8,900. The university is located in Lake Charles, a city with a population of 90,000. The city is located in the Southwest corner of the state, 30 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and 30 miles east of the Texas-Louisiana border. • In 1993, the Pulitzer Prize for fiction was awarded to Dr. Robert Olen Butler, then a member of the university’s Department of Languages. • Among former McNeese athletes who have gone on to professional stardom have been basketball’s Joe Dumars (Detroit, now president of basketball operations), baseball’s Ray Fontenot (New York Yankees) and football’s Kerry Joseph (Canadian Football League). • McNeese is the first public university in the state to offer a concentration in Forensic Chemistry • McNeese now has seven Senior Fulbright Scholars on its faculty that have traveled to Greece, Finland, Moldova, Romania, Rwanda, China and Korea. • The College of Nursing is nationally accredited by the National League of Nursing and continually has a high passing rate on the nursing licensing examination. • The College of Business has an internship program which places students nationwide. • McNeese offers a degree in Athletic Training.

Bruce Hemphill Athletic Director

Bruce Hemphill is in his second year as athletic director for McNeese after the former associate AD at the University of Wyoming and assistant to the AD at the University of North Carolina became the ninth athletics director in school history in August of 2013. “Bruce understands the role athletics plays in the larger university environment and he understands the difficulty we face with the athletic budget and the importance of increasing revenue through private sources and auxiliary means,” said McNeese President Dr. Philip Williams. The first year under Hemphill was an eventful one as McNeese’s athletic programs excelled both on the playing field and

in the classroom. Academically, McNeese set a school record by having five players named as the Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year for their respective sports. The program also led all conference schools in the 2014 spring semester with 21 student-athletes compiling a perfect 4.0 grade point average. And Cowgirl softball player Alana DiVittorio became just the second player in the sport to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors. Athletically, McNeese finished fifth out of the 14 SLC schools for the 2013-14 SLC Commissioner’s Cup standings and led all Louisiana schools. The Cowgirl softball team won a school record 40 games en route to its second consecutive league championship and the Cowboy football team won 10 games and qualified for its league-record 15th FCS playoff appearance. In addition, the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as volleyball, tennis, baseball and softball, all qualified for the league postseason tournament. During his first year as the department leader, he’s been very active in helping raise funds for the new Health & Human Performance Center that will also be the new home of McNeese basketball and volleyball as well as spearheading beautification projects at the athletic field house, among many other accomplishments. The Sulphur, La., native has 25 years administrative experience at the collegiate and high school levels. He supervised 10 of 17 programs offered at a major Division 1 university and was responsible for budget oversight, game operations, facilities, personnel, compliance, team travel and recruiting. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University where he was a three-year letterman in football and won AllAcademic Southeast Conference honors at wide receiver. His professional experience began at LSU where he was a graduate assistant and assistant football coach. In 1984, after serving as the supervisor for health and physical education for the Louisiana Department of Education, he returned to collegiate athletics and served for two years as an assistant football coach at Louisiana Tech University. In 1987 he became the recruiting coordinator at North Carolina State University. From 1989-1990 he served as the assistant recruiting coordinator at the University of South Carolina. He joined the athletics department staff at the University of North Carolina in 1990 and served eight years as assistant to the athletics director and director of recruiting. From 1999-2003 he was associate athletics director at the University of Wyoming. In 2003 he returned to North Carolina and accepted a position as athletics director at a 4A high school, the largest classification in the state. Hemphill has two sons - James, 19, a sophomore basketball player at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and Jack, 15, a sophomore in high school, and a daughter, Hayden, 18, a senior in high school. McNeese State’s Dowell “Doc” Fontenot Sports Medicine Center is an ultra-modern facility and one of the finest in the South. It is named after longtime McNeese athletic trainer Dowell Fontenot (pictured left) who was also a national champion boxer during his undergraduate days at the university and who is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame. The center is located just south of the McNeese athletic fieldhouse. Funds for the 6,200 square foot medical center were obtained from the state, from private donations and from the McNeese PetroChem Athletic Association.

The Charles Kuehn Weight Room at the Jack Doland Field House was outfitted by Life Fitness Company and Hammer Strength Company who made the 8,000 square foot room a showcase weight facility. Weights are painted in platinum and blue and there are 16 Mondo enlayed platforms for heavy weight work, one of only eight schools in the nation to have this. The weight room also includes: 16 multi-purpose racks, 80,000 pounds of weights (McNeese logo on the weights), nine 52-inch flat screen television sets, mirrors all the way around, two treadmills, two elliptical machines, a stationary bike and a $12,000 surround sound system donated by Scott Bailey and Bailey Audio. A 12-foot McNeese logo sets off the room from the center floor. The facility is named in honor of McNeese Stateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first football all-American who is pictured above.

SEASON BY SEASON PITCHING LEADERS Cowgirl ace Jaime Allred picked up where she left off from her freshman season and came back in 2014 to win a school record 27 games after posting a 27-8 overall record. Allred also set school records for single season shutouts with 10 and career shutouts with 14. Allred led McNeese and the Southland Conference and ranked 25th in the nation with a 1.57 ERA. She was named the Southlandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Pitcher of the Year. Freshman Rachel Smith had an outstanding rookie season, posting an 8-5 record with a 1.70 ERA, second best in the SLC and ranked 31st in the nation.

Ann Roubique 1979-82

McNeese

Former softball and basketball standout Ann Roubique was inducted into McNeese State’s Hall of Fame in 2001. Roubique is the first softball player and the third women’s basketball player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The four year letterwinner in softball and basketball, Roubique spent most of her adult lifte at McNeese. Roubique also spent six years as assistant women’s basketball coach (1985-90) and three as head women’s tennis coach (1985-87). As an athlete, Roubique was the 1979 MVP after batting .439 with seven home runs and helped her team’s capture the Louisiana Championships in 1979 and 1981. She was also a three time All-Louisiana selection.

Cherilyn Lantrip 1979-82

Former softball player and softball coach Cherilyn Lantrip is the most recent female athlete inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame. Lantrip was inducted in 2004. At one time, she held the career records for runs scored and home runs as well as most doubles in a game with three. She was a three-time All-Louisiana selection and team MVP. The four year letterwinner was also a member of two Louisiana Championship teams (1979 & 1981). As a coach, Lantrip coached the Cowgirls for two seasons (1986 & ‘87), compiling a 42-38 won-loss record and led McNeese to a third place finish in the SLC both seasons.
