Small is Beautiful We will let you know which theme attaches to which competition when the calendar is finalised and released in the Autumn

Image sizes

No changes are planned in respect of Prints

Our current DPI sizes are smaller than those used in the external competition we enter as a club and the committee are considering rule changes for next year. That is competitions entered after 1 January 2013. However if you are preparing images now for next year please be aware of the change and work on larger images. The final rule changes will be announced later in the year and ratified at the AGM. For the time being we suggest that you work anticipating a new size of 2000px on the long side of the image

Trips & Outings

6 August

We have one last Monday night outing planned, lets hope that the rain finally stops. We will be visiting Lancaster. There is a lot to see in the town with a castle & old buildings. There are restored buildings along the river and a little further out is Williamson Park and of course the canal and seaside.

Final details nearer the time, but something to put in your diary and discuss at the 30 July meeting

Communications

These are fast changing times.

A short while ago we relied on announcements at meetings to communicate with you our membership. But now you have lots of ways to keep in touch and contribute

Our website is now established in its new home and our club forum is active with some thoughtful discussion taking place.

The move to Facebook has proved very popular with a lot of members and new photos are added every day making it the fastest growing part of our web presence

L&CPU News First we celebrate Wigan 10's win at Saturday's PAGB PDI Championships and invite you to consider what a remarkable achievement it is to keep on top of an increasingly competitive field. Our other representative clubs North Cheshire PS and Chorley PS did well in the Plate Trophy too. The full results are on the news page with the story and pictures and also on the PAGB page. At the AGM the rule about Exec Members roles was changed and that is now incorporated into the RULES or CONSTITUTION. L&CPU page.

If you did not get to the L&CPU Annual Exhibition you've missed it! The prints will be joining the other in the Folios to circulate the clubs from September. The List of Prints joins the other catalogues now on the L&CPU page.

Details of the 2013 Competitions and how they will change have been on the NEWS page for some weeks now and we have had a few queries which are now answered on that page. I have been getting together information about our three new Life Members and NORMAN THOMPSON is featured this week. FIAP Notes about rule changes and procedure changes which have not yet appeared on the FIAP website – NEWS

CLUBS we have now brought the clubs page into line with the information that you are maintaining on the PORTAL Northern Counties and Guernsey join the EXTERNAL COMPS.

Finally I have added Michael Critchley's website to the LINKS page Micheal has some interesting creations on there well worth a look and you can help coin the word PAINTOGRAPHY. All these are listed on the L&CPU web page, with links. www.lcpu.org.uk Thank you and enjoy! John Royle

Photo Opportunity As part of the Guild Celebrations Preston City Councl are running some free events. The walks will be lead by a very good local photographer

The website is at http://www.prestonphotowalks.blogspot.co.uk/ For times and dates please register at prestonphotowalk@gmail.com

Starting from the summer of 2012, we are looking to help photographers get social around the city of Preston in Lancashire, UK. These photowalks will be fun, for everyone, and free. If you have a compact, DSLR or large format camera, come along. We don't care what you shoot with as long as you are friendly, considerate and not going to bore everyone with your latest ( very expensive ) lens! These photowalks will be an opportunity for like minded photography enthusiasts, ( professional, amateur or novice ), to meet up and wander around safely in numbers. A few members went on the 1st walk round the docks area and gave good reports. Please register interest either by email prestonphotowalk@gmail.com

There is also a flickr group where images can be shared after each walk for us all to look at and post constructive comments.

These walks are not designed to compete or step on the toes of local camera clubs and all the good work that they do, this is an addition to those groups in a city which we are sure can cater for more!

News from Pixel

We're all going on a summer holiday Excuse a bit of self congratulation but last month's Pixel the Monochrome Edition is going from strength to strength with over 650 downloads and more than 8,000 page views to date. If you want your images to reach a wider audience you now know where to send them

Pixel is growing up. It now has a wide following and we think this month's issue will be the best yet.

Its too late to get your work featured in this months edition but now you have 2 weeks before the next deadline so lets see what you have got. The theme next month is Travel & Holidays so if you have any photos for us or ideas about what to pack, hints or tips send them in.

If you have a question let us have it and we may be able to feature it and possibly an answer as well. We are always looking for ways to improve the magazine and welcome submissions and suggestions or requests.

You can speak to Lee or me at any meeting or contact the magazine via the following links. Facebook Email
