7Steel Sprintcar Invitational Jackpot kick starts Avalon season. The new season came early with Avalon kicking off proceedings on October 10th with the $10,000 to win 7Steel Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational. Veteran Max Dumesny (pictured left), who had not qualified directly into the field under the events rules but was reliant on a wild card invitation, led every lap of the ten lap, eight car final to take a huge $1,000 per lap victory. David Murcott tried his best but had to settle for second and $5,000 while Grant Anderson, ahead of the Dave Horell WSS announcement, made the final via the non-qualifiers event and took a neat $3,000 for his third place finish. All up there was $24,000 prize money on the final alone, with a guaranteed $1,000 to start for the elite 8 car field. Not a single rollover was incurred throughout the evening despite a hooky and fast track. The biggest incidents were the Robbie Farr & Stephen Lines clash at the start of the Semi Final and then later Farr’s huge wheel stand. The Drew family took a punt with this unique event to kick off their 34th season of racing and were rewarded with a big crowd. Some fine tuning may be needed for the event before next years version but overall it was something different in its structure and seemed to be well accepted by the majority of those in attendance. At the same event dual and current Australian Street Stock champion Brad McClure (pictured below) unleashed his new Commodore streetie. Yes, Brad has returned to his roots and gone back to the GMH product led in no small part by his friend and nemesis Anthony Beare. A lack of testing opportunity meant McClure didn’t quite have the car the way it needed to be and Beare, with a season of competition in his similar Commodore under his belt, had the edge. Incredibly in the final neither car finished. McClure had no power steering and Beare suffered a misfire in the engine. Ironically when both drivers fired up their machines to exit the infield post race, McClure found his power steering had returned and Beare’s misfire had disappeared. Troy Polley in his ageing Falcon took a popular, but surprised win in the main event. As an added bonus fans got to see the first Avalon appearance by young Australian V8 Dirt Modified Champion Peter Britten (Pictured at left). Local racer Daryl Hickson had purchased a Troyer chassis from Britten who took the opportunity to deliver the car and have a race before heading on to Perth for some more events. Veteran Trevor Perry won the opening heat but it was at the expense of his engine and Britten didn’t look overly quick as he adapted to the track for the first time. Come feature time however Britten showed his true form and won the main event as well as setting a new track record along the way. All in all the meeting was packed with quality cars and current or former national champions in all divisions presented including Dumesny and Robbie Farr in the Sprintcars, Bear and McClure in the streeties and Britten in the dirt mod.

After each round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series there will be nightly awards on offer that will be broadcasted to race fans below each SRA media release.

All the Eureka Series rounds along with other Blue Ribbon Race meetings including the Victorian Open and 360 Sprintcar Titles, Presidents Cup, King Challenge, the Classic and Easter trail will make another sea-

and Sheds Sprintcar Series will carry over $150,000 in prize money and another $30,000 plus in the end of the Series prize pool with $10,000 going to the Series winner. Add to that the top ten award also carries the chance to ride away on KTM ATV 450cc valued at over $16,000 from KTM Australia, this will be done by random draw of the top ten Series drivers at the presentation dinner. Then you add in the Avalon Track Championship for Sprintcar and at the end of the season one Sprintcar competitor will drive away in a brand new Ford Fiesta valued at over $18,000 from Essendon Ford. The Ford Fiesta award will be won by the highest point score from all the Sprintcar A Main events only starting at Round one of the Eureka garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series and round one of the Avalon Track Championship this coming Saturday night. This season the top ten Eureka Garages and Sheds Series drivers will have a chance to win a top of the range KTM 450 XC ATV. Three Crowns to the King of Victorian AMCA’s. Portland’s Adam King normally likes to pace his race and be there at the finish but when the dual Victorian Champion defended his crown at Rushworth last night (Saturday 7th), he led from the start to take a “threepeat” of Victorian Championships South Aussie David Hartman came home in second place ahead of Mark Lincoln, Stewart Grant-Campbell and Mick Jackson. Despite the non attendance of a couple of entrants it was still a large and star studded field that assembled to do battle. Paul Sullivan started off well winning the opening heat from Rockhampton's Dean Ballard and tyro Tim Reidy. Pre event favorite Daniel Scott took heat 1B from another favorite Mick Kiraly with Jackson in third. Aussie champ Shane McKinnell worked his way from last to finish fifth as he reacquainted to the Rushworth venue. Hartman showed that he was going to be a huge threat after blasting from last to the win in heat 1C. Campbell Hughes chased him from mid pack while Trevor Thierry was third. The final heat of the first round went to King, taking full use of his pole start to beat David May and Paul Forrest. The second set of heats were full of motor and mechanical dramas and retirements but Grant-Campbell, Brian Chadwick, Hartman and King took the victories. The final set of heats (high points to the rear) saw Lincoln, May, Ballard and Kiraly score wins. McKinnell had been hoping for a fast track but the weather had worked against him leaving him on pole in the B-Main from which only two drivers would go through to the championship final. The four time Aussie champ however, made no mistake leading all the way to qualify into the feature along with fellow Queenslander Robert Irwin. Frank Thierry and Darren McCarthy

King led the 20 car line up for the championship decider with Sullivan, Hartman, Scott, Chadwick, Darren Clark, Jackson, Grant-Campbell, Trevor Thierry, Lincoln, Kiraly, Ballard, May, Rick Clark, Cory Fox, Hughes, Forrest, Bill Lodwick Jnr, McKinnell and Irwin. From his prime position King led Sullivan away as the action began to unfold instantly behind them when Kiraly, May and McKinnell got together. McKinnell hit the wall and got out to check the damage, It appeared as if he could continue on but he was unable to restart having “broken his belts”.
9 While King may have gone flag to flag it wasn’t that straight forward. “After Avalon, we went right through the car and found a couple of little things. My dad, Terry, spent a lot of time on the car and from the moment we took it out of the truck we only made a few minor adjustments all night.” King explained. However, they did have a slight issue to contend with. “We geared the car a little tall and that meant we were a bit slow off the line. Once we got going we were okay but with all the stoppages it became a bit of a problem.” King said. “On the restarts I was going into turn one and two a little hot and this allowed (Daniel) Scott and (David) Hartman to have a go at me on a couple of occasions. It was a one lane track and once I realized that all I had to do was roll in a little slower and guard the bottom it was not an issue. The track was pretty slick right throughout the night and that was how we thought it would go and it also seems to suit my style.”
Again King (picture above) and Sullivan led the field away as many others suffered dramas including Frank Thierry, Scott and Hughes who all suffered flat tyres at different points throughout the race. May stopped with a mechanical issue as did Forrest. Rick Clark succumbed to a broken coil wire and Irwin’s car was overheating. Sullivan threw away a solid finish when he spun out of second place on lap 15 and watched Hartman and Lincoln take the final podium positions. Completing the field were Grant-Campbell; Jackson, Chadwick, Kiraly, Frank Thierry (who’d got a start when McKinnell had stopped), Darren Clark, Sullivan, Fox, Ballard, Lodwick and McCarthy.

With our season kicking off this coming Friday night at the Bordertown Cup being held at Tolmer Speedway Bordertown SA. We did have plans for a two night show and run Adelaide on Saturday but as we nominated late we got rejected so I guess they must have a full field cars. Any way with our motor being delayed with some wrong parts we have stolen the motor out of the 2 seater and are ready to rock the little bull ring. We always seem to run well at our home track and have never been out side the top 10 so our new driver will defiantly have the hammer down to keep up the team’s home track record. Just a little insight to the other drivers there has been some major changes to the track in the last couple of months so just beware that when you turn up it may surprise you a little. So we will be up against the big horsepower of the 410s for the first time but we have no doubt that we will be right in the mix and can’t wait to fire into life and get some methanol back in our veins. Our fans will have to wait another couple of weeks to see our new livery as it will be revealed at the opening round of the Sprintcar All Stars at Murray Bridge.

BIG SEASON FOR SPEEDCARS IN VICTORIA Speedcar Drivers Association of Victoria. This landmark 2009/2010 season will see the mighty midgets enter 75 years of regular competition since being introduced in season 1934/35 in Melbourne (interrupted only by the years of world war 2). Appropriately, to coincide with this season's celebration for the birthplace of the sport, the National controlling body "Speedcars Australia" have allocated the National Title to Victoria's Avalon Raceway which will increase the significance of the 2009/2010 Championship on this historical occasion. A few months ago, the VSDA committee met with Avalon Promoter, Jeff Drew, to lay the groundwork for publicity and promotion of this season's particularly important national title. David Crabtree, the President of the Victorian Speedcar Drivers Association is working hard to ensure that the Aussie Speedcar Title at Avalon Raceway, will be a huge success. “Crabby� has indicated that he maybe looking to bring an American midget driver out to pilot one of his cars, but is still to work out how he can qualify him, as he will have to compete in at least 3 speedcar race meetings in Australia prior to the title. A possible fly over and the possible appearance of Sir Jack Brabham will also be a highlight of the title.

Kilmore Electrician Daniel Scott was too hot for the opposition at Avalon last night (October 24) taking his second straight AMCA feature win narrowly ahead of early race leader Mick Kiraly with Chris Best and Stewart Grant-Campbell all forming a high speed racing quartet in one of the best AMCA features seen for many years. “That was great fun and the track was awesome.” Stated Scott . “I think the track had more grip in the final than it did in my last heat, but I have to thank Mick (Kiraly) for building me such a good car and my engine builder because I always knew I had a good car but now I’ve got some engine to go with it.” In fact that racing was so fast that many track records were broken throughout the night. Daniel Scott - winner @ Avalon Kiraly (The White Glove Effect #5 Panther) showed his continuation of speed from last week by blasting from fifth to the win in heat 1A ahead
of Grant-Campbell (Emjay Signs #97) and Peter Hickford (Lubrimaxx #96 Cougar). David May (All State Drainage & Excavation #98) was also flying in heat 1B winning after starting fourth. Scott (Laffans Accident Repair #91 Panther) ran home second ahead of Frank Thierry (Juicy Boy Citrus #7 Kempy) who’d been in a race long dual with May until the last couple of laps. Tim Reidy (Rafferty The Wrecker #79 Cougar) led all the way to win heat 1C with Campbell Hughes (Voodoo Ride #21 Atkin) ahead of Chris Best (Auto Premier Truck Centre #27 MiBest). Heat 2A saw Trevor Thierry (Juicy Boy Citrus #6 Kempy) set a new ten lap record of 2:50.78 on the way to the win ahead of Kiraly who had a half lose while trying to take the lead, and Grant-Campbell. Paul Sullivan (Container Fumigation Services #28) won heat 2B from Scott and Adam Timberlake (Peter Timberlake Race Cars #33). Victorian Champion Adam King (Port City Engines #1) reset the 10 lap record to 2:44.01 on his
way to the win ahead of Chris best and Rick Clark (Tritech Lubricants #5. Alan Howe (Melton Carpet Court #64 MiBest) then set a new twelve lap record of 3:24.89 as he won the BMain from Robert Taylor (Braybrook Auto Wreckers #14), Shea Bradley (Hot Impressions Cool Image #80) which had gone through an almost complete rebuild after a serious shunt the week before, and Rod Duncan (T C Oakley Automotive #57). Brody has made some changes to his car for this season which he hopes will keep him up at the pointy end of the pack. With some help from sponsors Crow Cams and Dave Erikson the team has freshened up the power plant in the Alexandra Speedway #32 Datsun. The rear of the car has been removed and changed for the coming season also after a few hits it has sustained in recent years. Brody Chrystie Racing is a popular team on the Junior Sedan circuit and is always willing to help out fellow drivers whenever they can. Whilst the team haven’t had a lot of wins Brody follows the mandate of
being out there for ‘fun and making friends’ he also has commented that “Racing isn’t all about winning and although I love to win races, the important thing is that it’s all about having fun and when you lose the fun in racing it’s time to give it up.“ Brody’s biggest influence on his racing would have to be his father Anthony after being a Modified Sedan champion in past years he plays a massive part in Brody’s success and racing career. TEAM REPORT Peter Milnes V51 Peter Milnes (V51) was one of the outstanding newcomers to the Sprintcar ranks last season and promises to be one of the “hard chargers” during the 2009/10 season. Peter was recently interviewed by e-mags’ Brett Swanson.
PM: “Absolutely, I think the 372 was a bit smoother but towards the end of the season when the tracks were very hooky, we had a 372 at the end of last season, that would wheel stand and carry on. This is going to be different with another 150 HP , but were starting to learn about how to set the car up. I think the 372 first, was right way to go initially.
BS: You’ve got to be very happy with what you achieved last year. PM: “It took us a bit to get to understand what we were doing, coming from Hot Rods, we did work with torsion bars and similar type of suspension, but obviously wings were new to us and shocks were a lot more technical”. BS: 700 Horsepower? PM: “Yes we struggled a bit to get our head around the set up for a start, then Ian Harris hopped on board mid way through last season and we actually started to move forward, we’ve just got to get consistent now”. BS: You looked to be having a good night at the invitational event at Avalon last month. PM: “Yes, we were pretty happy with our first hit out in the invitational event. We had stripped the car completely during the off season, were running the same chassis as we did last year, we only had a 372 engine last year, we were about 640-650 hp. We’ve put the 410 in this year were over 800 hp, so had a bit to get our head around on the first night. We qualified 9th in the semi final, we got up as far a 5th, then I got a whack in the front left that bent the shaft in the left front shocker”. BS: You said you were very happy starting with a 372, now the 410, do you think that was a good thing not to have the brute HP of a 410, but something in between first up?

TEAM UPDATE Domain Ramsay V20 Domain Ramsay has been around in sprintcars for a number of years but has yet to win a feature, he’s hoping this will all change this season. The Essendon Ford, V20 driver has his sights firmly on the SRA Eureka Sprintcar Series this season and will be competing in all rounds of the Series. In a recent interview with Brett Swanson, Domain had the following to say about his future plans etc. BS: Your history is in mini sprints where you could run with the front runners, how difficult was it to step up from the mini sprints to the Sprintcars? DR: The power difference obviously & the fitness levels was the biggest thing. When we first started we got into a 360, did a few laps and was pretty puffed out fairly quickly. BS; Speaking of 360’s, as well as the 410 car this year you’re going to do some All Star events as well. DR; Yes, we’re going to give the 360’s another go this year, we bought a motor, its getting freshened up at John Sidney, then we will join the All Stars for a few rounds. It should be good fun and I’m looking forward to it. BS; What are your expectations when you come up against some of the 360 guys? DR; I think the 360 guys are just as competitive as the open guys, I’m not expecting to go out and win races, there are a lot of good drivers in there, it will be very competitive. I’m looking forward to doing some laps and have some fun. When you get to a place like Warrnambool, I don’t think the speeds will be all that different, I don’t expect them to be, maybe the take off speed maybe a little different but once were travelling, there’s not that much difference. BS; That’s a real bonus for the 360’s, having another quality car and driver running the All Stars Series. DR; The All Stars series is being run very, very well, last year it would have been good to do some races, we were going to do a round last year, we were going to hire a motor off MAXWILL, but I crashed my open car, that ended that fairly quickly so we couldn't do it. BS: DR
On the open Championship, you’re going to chase the Eureka Series the whole season? Yes I’ve never actually done the whole Eureka series, we’re going to do that this year, fit in a few 360 races and the Classic and Easter Trail etc

Last year at Warrnambool, you had a particularly good night, it was a fast night, the car was fast and you were on your game. I love Warrnambool, I reckon its the best race track in Australia, Its good there, its fast, I really, really like it, faster the better!
