Grant Farms Complete Herd Dispersal

Welcome Upon reflection, it is with extreme pride that I present to you my lifetime of work in the cattle industry. While having this dispersal sale was a difficult decision, I am confident that the herd I am presenting for sale is the accumulation of my many years of breeding and raising purebred cattle. Each year I looked forward to the spring calving season to see how my decisions from the year before would turn out and through years of improvement, I believe that this presentation is the pinnacle of my efforts. Many of you know the reputation of Grant Farms’ breeding and embryo program which excels at creating cattle with strong feed conversion, while maintaining and balancing strong traits for optimum milk, carcass, and longevity. All great breeders must first purchase great cattle and genetics and I feel like we have some of the best genetics from the best breeders in the Canadian Charolais industry. 2013 is an exceptionally good calf crop and we have continued to cull with our extremely high standards. We are really pleased with the calves from our senior herdsires and excited about the results from our junior herdsires that we added in 2013. We AI’d a fair number of cows and have utilized an extensive embryo program; individually pairing our herd to ensure the best possible outcome for your benefit. All the cattle are available for viewing at the farm before the sale. Please feel free to stop by or request video/additional pictures to view the cattle. The cattle industry has given me so much more than I could ever return. I raised a family within a community of cattlemen and ranchers and the efforts and lessons imparted upon my three sons have enabled them to go on to achieve extraordinary accomplishments. Many of those accomplishments would not have been possible without the friends that we have made and the support that we have received along the way. While I will be leaving the cattle industry, I will be taking with me the enjoyment that I have had and the lifelong friends that I have gained. I would personally like to thank those friends as buyers, past and present for their support and assistance along the way. I hope that my cattle will eventually mean as much to you as they do to me today. I would like to once again thank my family, all of our friends within the cattle industry, and the buyers from the present and the past. I hope that you all find the happiness that I was able to find as you continue down the road that I once traveled. See you soon

Sales Management Comments Welcome to the D. Grant Farms complete herd dispersal. This is the final chapter of one of Alberta’s great breeding establishments. This cow herd has always been based around quality firstly and Don has always gone out and sourced some of the very best Charolais genetics available. Although the numbers of this sale offering are not large, the quality definitely runs very deep. Notice the age of these bred females - a large percentage are just coming with their second and/or third calves and are entering into the prime of their lives. The heifer calves are just flat out good and really complement their dams. We’ll see who finds the front end of this group, “Best of Luck”. The bull calf offering is not big in numbers but definitely has some future herd bull prospects in it. It’s always sad to see such a great promoter of the breed call it quits but Charolais enthusiasts should look at this as a great opportunity to add some top end young genetics to their programs.

Don

The time is right and December 7th is the day to be in Innisfail, Alberta for some of the best Charolais hospitality and cattle on offer this fall. Darren Paget, Transcon Livestock Corp.
