Hello, and welcome to our 3rd Annual two-year old Charmark Charolais Bull Sale.

The beef industry is seeing many challenges and changes: drought, high feed prices, inflation, rising interest rates, and land prices increasing but to name a few. At the same time, calf and feeder prices are moving upwards, and with tighter cow numbers than has been seen in many decades, profitability opportunities and the future of the cow/calf sector is improving quickly. With all of those factors in the mix, I believe Charolais bulls have a lot to offer the industry, which include heterosis, excellent gain and conversion, and an attractive offering to the feedlots. Hopefully our weather pattern is beginning to shift to provide relief to the prolonged dry periods we have been having. We will likely see improvement in grazing and feed production, improving the spring and summer outlook.

This year’s offering is deeper than previous years and the best yet to date. Our focus continues to be on muscle, performance, calving ease, and feet and legs. Each and every one of these phenotypes are now more important than ever for cattle production, as the industry moves towards larger cow herds and getting more out of everything. With this in mind, we look to mix French genetics in our herd in order to highlight some of the more positive attributes the breed has to offer.

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Charmark Ranch Bull Sale and what an offering of two-year old bulls they have for you this year. These bulls are as long bodied, thick made and as good of footed bulls as you will find anywhere. Dollars for quality, it was as good of buying as you could do buying two-year olds last spring in my opinion.

The Marquess family have been raising Charolais bulls for decades and the quality and consistency is continuing to improve. The ranch is an hour north of Brooks in shortgrass country. Most of the bulls were calved on grass and raised in a ranch setting. They will go out and work for you. If there was a problem calving, they are not here. There are many ½ and ¾ brothers and most of them have the proven Full French sire Anjou Pure Power back in their pedigree. They have also been Leptin tested with Q-Select and there is a full explanation to the advantages of these tests and which bulls have the different genetic results. There are many polled bulls with that added French thickness.

Get the identifiable Charolais colour with tops and butts that will put your calves in the top sort pens and top the market. The bulls are available for viewing at the farm or at Bow Slope Shipping in Brooks the morning of the sale. You can also view the sale and bid online at DLMS.ca

For your convenience, DLMS will be broadcasting the sale live for viewing and bidding. Please register early to utilize this service.

Absentee Buying

If you are unable to attend on sale day, give Leigh, or sale staff a call. We would be happy to assist you with your purchase.

Delivery

We can offer delivery for $75 for up to 300 km. The bulls can go back home and be kept until May 1st free of charge, but we ask they be insured. After May 1st there will be a $5/day charge to cover the cost of feed.

Insurance

The bulls become your responsibility as soon as they are sold. We recommend you insure your purchases.

Purchases may be made using Visa or Mastercard. A 4% surcharge will be applied.

Viewing of the Bulls

Bulls are available for viewing at the ranch, or at Bow Slope the day before the sale.

Lot 2 is a moderate framed, well muscled bull, with tons of performance to go along with his stature. His sire, 150B, is a long bodied eye appealing Pure Power son that has been in service since 2015.This bull will sire feeder cattle that everyone will want.

Here is a bull with lots of eye appeal, and a nice muscle pattern to go with it. His sire, 12D was 2nd in his class at the 2017 Houston Charolais Livestock Show. Like many of his offspring, the judge commented that you couldn’t draw a better one with a pencil. These 12D sons have the shape which are made to calve.
