THE SUMMIT LEAGUE In its fourth decade of Division I athletics, The Summit League offers 19 championship sports and has a combined enrollment of over 120,000 at nine institutions, including four located in top 60 U.S. metro populations and two land-grant universities. Member institutions include: Denver (University of Denver), Fort Wayne (Indiana University-Purdue UniversityFort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), North Dakota State University, Omaha (University of Nebraska Omaha), Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University and Western Illinois University. Previously known as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League rebranded in 2007 and has since produced eight NCAA Champions, and over 85 All-Americans and 63 Academic All-America selections.

Each year, approximately 3,000 student-athletes continue to raise the bar and help The Summit League reach exceptional success and development. Within the past four years alone, The Summit League has produced six NCAA Champions, accounting for more than half of its all-time total. That level of success also carries into the classroom with record high team recognition for NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR) in 2013-14 and recent prestigious individual academic honors such as the Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Capital One Academic All-American of the Year. The Summit League also produces the highest quality in competition as evidenced by representation in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Professional Golf Association (PGA) in 2014. Within the past decade, The Summit League has … • Achieved a final national ranking in eight different sports. • Won NCAA Regional Championships in two sports and advanced in five additional NCAA team championship tournaments. • Had 61 teams receive NCAA Public Recognition Awards (among top 10 percent of Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their sport) since 2010. • Totaled 50 teams with maximum/perfect APR scores in the past three years. • Crowned eight of the league’s 10 NCAA Champions since 2007 and won five NCAA national championships and six NCAA statistical titles in the past three years.

HEAD COACH | FOURTH SEASON | 21-23-10 After five years leading the ORU women’s soccer team, Ryan Bush took over the men’s program prior to the 2013 season. In his first season at the helm of the ORU men’s program, Bush led the Golden Eagles to a 6-84 overall record, and a second place finish in the Summit League with a 3-2-1 conference mark. It was the highest league finish for a Golden Eagle squad since the 2005 season In five years, Bush turned ORU into a conference championship contender, compiling a 42-44-6 record, including a 12-7-2 mark in 2012, the second highest win total in school history. The Golden Eagles wrapped up their 2011 campaign with a 4-4-1 record in their final season of Summit League action 7-10-2 overall. In 2010, the Golden Eagles improved on their record from 2009, but narrowly missed the conference tournament with a 9-8-1 mark. Bush produced surprising results from a team made up of mostly freshman and battled injuries. In 2009, Bush led the Golden Eagles to an 8-9-1 overall mark, including 5-4-0 in Summit League. The five conference victories were the program’s most since 2004. In his first season as women’s head coach (2008) Bush guided ORU to a 6-10-1 overall record and a 3-5-0 Summit League mark. Prior to taking over the women in 2008, Bush served as an assistant for the men’s soccer program prior to taking over the ORU women. In his second year with the ORU men, the Golden Eagles were ranked as high as No. 23 in the nation, the highest ranking in program history. During the five years, Bush helped guide the Golden Eagles to qualify for the postseason conference tournament each year. Before starting his ORU coaching career, Bush was the head women’s soccer coach at Cascia Hall High School in Tulsa, Okla., for the 2003-04 season. Bush was a two-year standout for ORU from 2001-02. He was part of the 2001 squad that captured the Mid-Continent Conference regular season crown. Before arriving at ORU, Bush played two years at Bacone College, where he led the team to a national top-25 ranking and a NJCAA Regional Finalist in 2000.

ASSISTANT COACH | SECOND SEASON Chris Taylor joined the ORU men’s soccer program in July 2015. Taylor was the 22nd overall pick in the MLS Draft by the Portland Timbers. he joined the Timbers after a tremendous career at the University of Tulsa. A defender in his playing days, Taylor will work with all aspects of the team including recruiting, team travel and scouting while also helping in all day-to-day operations. “We are excited Chris has made the choice to become a Golden Eagle. The decision making process was difficult and at the end of the process we all agreed that he was a perfect fit for ORU and a proven winner,” said Bush. “He has proven himself at every level from competing for the US U-20 National Team to making four national tournament appearances during his college career.” Taylor started 14-of-16 MLS Reserve League matches and led the Timbers reserve squad with 855 minutes played in 2011. He also played in exhibitions against the English Premier League’s West Bromwich Albion while also seeing action against Club América and AFC Ajax. Taylor was a four-year letterwinner for the Golden Hurricane. During his career at Tulsa, he started in 81 of 82 matches. He scored eight goals, four of which were game-winners, and 17 assists for 33 points from his defender position. Taylor picked up all-Conference USA accolades as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was tabbed to the All-Freshman team. He was also a two-time NSCAA All-Midwest Region selection. “Chris is very passionate, energetic and has a tremendous work ethic. He will make an immediate impact here at ORU and will continue to build on a foundation that has been laid over the past two years.”

BOBBY BEHRENS

ASSISTANT COACH | FIRST SEASON Behrens comes to Oral Roberts after coaching the Lady Sandite varsity team to consecutive winning seasons from 2014-2016, while also having the second best start in program history at 10-2 in 2016. He coached two all-state players and over eight all-conference or all-district players during his time at Lady Sandite. Behrens was a three-year letterwinner at Northeastern State University where he helped the RiverHawks to back-to-back MIAA Tournament appearances and reach the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2012. He was part of a 2012 team that was inducted into the NSU’s Hall of Fame. The 2012 squad also reached the No. 5 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, which was the highest ranking in school history. He captained the team his senior year while earning all-academic honors during his three years at NSU. He was selected as the male scholar athlete of the year for his career achievements at NSU his final year at NSU. In 2010 his collegiate experience started at John Brown University where he lettered in his lone season, playing in every game. Behrens Graduated from Charles Page High School lettering four years and making all-state his senior year. Behrens and his wife Amber reside in Sand Springs, Okla.

ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER | SECOND SEASON Trisha Shannon (M.Ed., LAT, ATC) joined the ORU Sports Medicine staff prior to the 2015-16 season and assists in the medical care of the men’s soccer and track & field programs. She is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, first aid and CPR/AED certified and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association.

She also has experience working the CMU High School Team Football Camp and was an athletic trainer for the Show-Me State Games. While at OSU, Shannon worked with multiple programs, including the football and women’s basketball teams. She also worked the Big XII Baseball Tournament, the Cowgirl Soccer Camp and the Travis Ford Basketball School.

A 2013 graduate of Oklahoma State University, Shannon was named the OSU Athletic Training Department Student of the Year, and was also a recipient of the Matthew Hudack Memorial Scholarship. After earning her bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a clinical option, Shannon went on to earn her master’s degree in education from Central Methodist. At CMU, Shannon worked with the women’s soccer program, the JV men’s basketball team and also assisted with spring football.

Prior to joining the Golden Eagles, Hardwick served as Director of Communications at Will Rogers United Methodist Church in Tulsa where he oversaw weekly worship audio and video operations as well as all print, social and digital medias.

Hardwick has also worked media operations for the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional, 2015 and 2016 Big 12 Conference Baseball Championship, 2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, 2016 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship, NCAA Men’s 1st & 2nd Rounds and 2016 Big 12 Media Days in Dallas.

As an undergraduate, Hardwick spent one year as a student assistant with the athletic media relations department at Oklahoma State University. While at OSU he worked with each athletic program in a variety of ways, such as, assisting with media guides, weekly game notes and statistical software. Hardwick worked especially close with the women’s basketball program. He traveled with the Cowgirls to the 2015 Big 12 Championship in Dallas and the 2015 NCAA Tournament in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mike Carter Director of Athletics 23rd Season Oklahoma State ‘70 Mike Carter has been the Director of Athletics at Oral Roberts University since 1994 after practicing business and sports law in Tulsa for 21 years. Carter was the chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee in 2002 and 2003 and after serving as a volunteer for the next eight years has been recently reappointed to the Committee and has once again been named Chair of the Committee. He was the chair of the Summit League Joint Council of athletic directors and senior women’s administrators and served on the Conference’s Executive Committee after having chaired the Championships, Men’s Basketball and Baseball Committees. For five years, he served on the Executive Committee of the NCAA Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association and was the chair of the Awards Committee. In 2012, he was named the NCAA Division I Athletic Director of the Year for the Central Region.

Over the last 18 years as members of The Summit League and the Southland Conference, the Golden Eagles have captured nine Commissioner’s Cups winning 145 Regular Season & Tournament Championships and sending 80 teams to NCAA Tournaments in addition to multiple NIT and other post season appearances. The programs produced 91 All-Americans, 1,211 All-Conference selections, 1,294 Academic All-Conference selections, 137 Players of the Year and three NCAA Champions. In 2012, Jack Whitt won the NCAA Outdoor Pole Vault Championship. In 2008, Andretti Bain won the NCAA Men’s Indoor and Outdoor 400 meter Championships and collected a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics as part of the Bahamas’ 4 x 400 meter relay team. In 2008, Head Baseball Coach Rob Walton won the Gold Medal as the head coach of Team USA in the Baseball World Games in the Czech Republic with a perfect 24-0 record. ORU student athletes have had an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or better for 17 of the last 18 seasons. athletics.com

While at ORU, Carter created the ELI Academic Learning Center and has directed many other facility upgrades. Others include the construction and/or improvement of the volleyball, baseball, basketball and soccer facilities. New locker rooms, playing surfaces, sound systems, signage, and additional seating have assured ORU that its athletic facilities can rival most NCAA Division I universities. Carter also created an ORU Athletics Hall of Fame display in the North Lobby of the Mabee Center and unveiled a video conference room and renovated athletic training suite in 2013. Carter chaired the Marshal Committees for the 2001 U.S. Open, the 2007 PGA Championship and the 2009 U.S. Amateur, as well as serving on other committees for major golf championships in 1977, 1982, and 1994 and PGA Tour Championships in 1995 and 1996 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

Under Mike Carter’s leadership, the Oral Roberts University athletic department continues to build facilities that are the envy of teams across the nation. Nearly every Golden Eagle team has seen an increase or improvement in their playing facilities since 2009, augmenting what was already one of the finest collection of facilities in America. 1 The 1,000seat Case Soccer Complex opened in 2011, providing a permanent home for the Golden Eagle men’s and women’s soccer teams. 2 A new theater-style video conference room was built in the Mabee Center prior to the 2013-14 basketball season. 3 The Burkhardt Family Strength & Conditioning Center, which is open to all ORU student-athletes, was opened in 2006 and is constantly being updated. Athletes train under the supervision of ORU’s full-time sports performance staff. 4 The ORU baseball team trains indoors at the H.A. Chapman Practice Facility, which opened in 2009. He serves as a member of the CureSearch for Childhood Cancer Board of Trustees and Tulsa Sports Commission Executive Committee. He and his wife, Paula, are the Trustees of the Scott Carter Foundation which raises funds for children’s cancer research. Carter is a past director of Leadership Tulsa, Operation Aware, the Oklahoma Golf Association, Theater Tulsa, NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Board of Advisors, Southern Hills Country Club Board of Governors and served on the Mayor’s Vision 2025 Recreation and Leisure Committee.

After receiving his B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in 1970, Carter obtained a J.D. degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1972. He and Paula have been married 43 years and are members of First United Methodist Church where Carter is on its Executive Committee. They have two grown children, Lizz and Cason and three grandsons. Their son Scott died in 1993 of childhood cancer.

He was honored by the Tulsa Sports Commission as the 2006 Sportsman of the Year. The Sigma Chi Fraternity awarded him with its National House Corporation Officer of the Year Award in 1983, the Gamma Delta Chapter Award of Merit in 1982, and its prestigious Significant Sig Award in 2014. Family and Children’s Services of Tulsa named Carter and his family the Family of the Year in 1994.

Rhonda Fowler Sr. Associate AD/SWA 31st Season Rhonda Fowler, currently the senior associate athletic director for business, has served the Oral Roberts University athletic department for more than 30 years. In addition to

Fowler served as the manager of the ORU athletic ticket office from 197486, then returned to the University in September of 1997 as athletic business administrator. In between her stints with the Golden Eagles, Fowler worked in the corporate sector as a certified legal analyst.

Scott Higgins Sr. Associate AD • Marketing 18th Season Scott Higgins joined the ORU athletic department in February of 2000 after a three-year stint as a sports anchor for KOTV, Channel 6, Tulsa’s local CBS affiliate @orumsoc

As part of his duties, Higgins also hosts the ORU Sports Report television show, which airs weekly on KGEB Channel 53 in Tulsa and around the world on ORU’s digital media platforms.

Cum Laude from Oklahoma State University in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Radio/TV/Film – News and Public Affairs. Higgins anchored sportscasts in Joplin, Missouri, and Las Vegas before returning to Tulsa in 1997. Higgins married the former Dawn Burmaster in 1987. They live in Tulsa and have three sons, Troy, Sean and Ryan.

SCOTT WILLIAMS Sr. Associate Athletic Director 3rd Season Scott Williams returned to the ORU athletics department as the Senior Associate A.D. in May of 2014. He previously served for seven years (1998-2005) as the Assistant A.D.

After leaving ORU in 2005, Williams went to Oklahoma State, where he was the Assistant A.D. for Compliance for one year before being promoted to Associate A.D. for Compliance. He spent three years (2006-09) in that capacity was a member of the NCAA Athletic Certification Steering Committee. Williams also served as the tournament director for the 2008 NCAA Baseball Stillwater Regional and the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Stillwater Regional. Most recently, Williams was the Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he spent five years (2009-14)

handling the internal operations of the department. While in Edmond, Williams was in charge of budgeting, and negotiating contracts to purchase assets. He was also in charge of facility and event management, and was the NCAA tournament director for six different NCAA regional events. A 1995 graduate of Oklahoma State, Williams earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1998. Williams is married to the former Tammy Raye Love of Laverne, Oklahoma, and the couple has four kids; James Ray (J.R.) (10), Matthew Scott (8), Hannah Grace (7) and Luke Scott (4).

Tim johnson Associate AD • Development 2nd Season Tim Johnson joined the ORU staff as Assistant A.D. for Development prior to the 2015-16 school year after spending four and a half years at Clemson University. 58

As both an Assistant A.D. and Development Officer at Clemson, Johnson was responsible for development/stewardship, annual giving, letterwinner interaction and development and fundraising. He served on Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips’ senior staff and acted as a sport supervisor. He also supervised aspects of compliance, marketing, and departmental contracts for the Tigers. In addition, He aided in Clemson’s Billion Dollar Campaign “Will to Lead/Will to Win.” Through his involvement with IPTAY, Johnson promoted membership, helped with fundraising strategies, and was active on capital campaign committees.

Prior to Clemson, Johnson graduated from the University of Arkansas with both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (2005) and a Juris Doctor (2008) and practiced law in Fayetteville. During his career of more than 10 years, Freeland has aided in the publicity of a national champion, numerous AP All-American selections including 2012 ORU men’s basketball selection, Dominique Morrison. He has covered the ORU baseball and women’s basketball teams at the NCAA Tournament, the ORU men’s basketball team at a pair of postseason tournaments, and the CSU football team as they took on the defending national champion Florida Gators. Additionally, Freeland has overseen an increase in the number of live events streamed through ELIve, athletics.com

McCutchen has played an integral role in the transformation of ORU athletic marketing efforts since he arrived on campus in January of 2007. The Tulsa native created ORU’s first Game Operations Marketing Plan, consulted the department during its purchase of a new center-hung Mabee Center video scoreboard and dramatically increased the amount of in-game giveaways and promotions at ORU athletic events.

Prior to joining the ORU athletic department, McCutchen served as a marketing services coordinator for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets of the National Basketball Association. With the Hornets, McCutchen was a vital member of the staff as the Hornets built community goodwill, laying the groundwork for the Oklahoma City Thunder to relocate to the city in 2008.

While at OU, Pouliot served as a graduate assistant for two years before being promoted to the Varsity O Coordinator and External Relations Assistant. During that time, he effectively raised over $300,000 in solicited donations through the VIP Basketball Program. In addition to other fundraising efforts, he spearheaded licensing and retail merchandise to boost branding efforts, increasing sales by 50 percent.

Nelson pouliot Executive Director 2nd Season Nelson Pouliot joined ORU in October 2015 as the Executive Director for the Golden Eagle Club after spending the previous three years at Oakland University.

A 2010 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, Pouliot earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management. He went on to receive a master’s degree in communication from Oakland in 2014.

Prior to Oakland, Pouliot spent two seasons at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky as an intern, coordinating football hospitality and parking operations for donors and university consituents and oversaw the department’s annual auction, generating more than $60,000 for athletic scholarships.

John Joslin Director of Sports Medicine 8th Season John Joslin has been at ORU since 2008 and he is in his eighth athletic season as the school’s director of sports medicine. Joslin supervises all athletic training and sports @orumsoc

A 1988 graduate of the University of Tulsa, Joslin worked at EOOC for 20 years, where was responsible for patient education, outreach programs for local high schools and contract event coverage. He also assisted athletic training students during clinical rotations.

Whitmer led the baseball team’s training efforts and coached six AllSLC selections, including SLC Relief Pitcher of the Year Jordan Romano. Whitmer spent a year and a half as a graduate assistant strength & conditioning coach at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, where he was directly responsible for the strength & conditioning programs for MidAmerica’s men’s basketball and football teams.

Whitmer also spent the summer of 2011 as a strength & conditioning coach at the University of Denver. Whitmer is Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches’ Association, and he’s a Level I Sport Performance Coach through United States of America Weightlifting. Whitmer obtained his B.S. in Health & Exercise Science from Colorado State University in 2011 and went on to earn a M.S. in education from the University of Kansas is 2013. Ryan Tuttle

Director of Marketing 2nd Season After graduating from Oklahoma State in May 2015, Ryan Tuttle joined the ORU Athletics department at the start of the 2015-16 school year. 62

Tuttle brings experience having worked at Cowboy Sports Properties, Oklahoma City Energy FC and the Tulsa Sports Commission. With Cowboy Sports Properties from June 2014-May 2015, Tuttle developed marketing proposals and year-end reviews for the account executives and maintained a database of sponsorship elements, sales statuses and logistics for game-day operations. He also implemented on-field promotions and activities on game days. Prior to that, Tuttle worked for three months as a game day operations intern with the Energy, arranging on-field advertisements, stadium signage and fan hospitality areas. He also helped promote special events and worked to increase fan engagement. athletics.com

Tuttle graduated from OSU with a double major in business management and marketing. As a student, he created new marketing strategies for the Tulsa Roughnecks FC to improve brand loyalty. He also led research projects regarding student-attendance at OSU basketball games.
