ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS: This training allows students to access course materials anytime. Work is designed to encourage virtual interaction with materials and instructor.

ONLINE HYBRID: A combination of online synchronous and asynchronous learning

ONLINE Learning is both student and instructor directed, with instructors usually providing instruction during the regularly scheduled class time (synchronous). Some online courses are offered without regularly scheduled class times, but the instructor is usually available and has online office hours. The more you engage, the greater the connections you will have with the learning, your classmates and your instructor.

Learning is delivered at one of the College’s campuses or a specified off-site location. It is a traditional face-to-face college course or, for example, a lab that is part of a course. We follow all guidelines by WorkSafeBC, the Provincial Health Officer and Interior Health to ensure a safe learning environment.

The Basic Accounting Certificate is a flexible part-time program that provides a foundational introduction to accounting for those interested in entry-level accounting employment or accounting for their own business. Understand the accounting cycle for a service business and how to manage a general ledger, prepare financial statements, periodic adjustments and year-end books. Learn customer and vendor-tracking for a merchandising business, as well as inventory concepts, sales taxes, internal cash controls and payroll preparation.

Structured for the workplace, the Project Management Certificate offers instruction on the tools and techniques to manage every part of a project as well as product management software. In a short time learn the basics of bookkeeping. This course covers the five basic steps of bookkeeping and the knowledge needed to record transactions and produce financial statements. A pocket calculator is required for class.

Learn posting data and generating reports with the most popular accounting software. Topics include bookkeeping principles, sales taxes, setting up a company file, chart of accounts, lists, centres, sales, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable, inventory, GST returns, journal entries, bank reconciliations, reports, customizing reports, report filters and memorized transactions. Learn the skills needed to produce well-summarized meeting minutes that accurately reflect the key details and decisions of the meeting. The AutoCAD Skills Certificate program introduces students to the tools and applications of AutoCAD software used in modern building design. Emphasis will be on learning the concepts and practical uses of the program as well as developing acceptable practices for electronic file management. Concentrating on two-dimensional drafting, this program teaches the use of AutoCAD using examples of drawings from various industries. A hands-on approach emphasizing practical working techniques is applied to exercises and assignments.

This two year diploma program is offered in partnership with Northern Lights College (NLC) in Dawson Creek, B.C. The first three semesters of training take place at the Okanagan College Aerospace Campus in Vernon, B.C. The final semester takes place at NLC in Dawson Creek. The diploma is conferred by NLC. All curriculum and entrance requirements at Okanagan College align with the AMT program at NCL. The program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the aircraft maintenance trade and supply them with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry. The curriculum follows Transport Canada’s guidelines and, upon successful completion of the program, Transport Canada will grant graduates 18 months of experience credits toward the 48-month experience requirement for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license.

This 24-week program provides students with little or no previous experience in the electrical trade with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice electrician. The program exposes the student to aspects of residential, commercial and industrial systems in this trade with a focus on developing practical skills. The curriculum follows the B.C. The Viticulture Certificate program provides individuals with the skills and knowledge to manage a vineyard or seek employment in viticulture. Course work will emphasize the scientific principles underlying grape growing for the purpose of wine production, the various influences on grape quality, terminology, vineyard management including human resource and financial management, vineyard equipment operation and maintenance and safety.

Work integrated learning: 40-hour vineyard work experience.

The Winery Assistant Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and practical skills to work alongside master winemakers. Similarities and differences between wine, cider, beer and spirits will be explored throughout the program with an emphasis on winemaking. The program includes a focus on scientific principles of production, influences on product quality, industry terminology, equipment operation and maintenance, harvest and crush, sanitation and safety, sensory evaluation, and marketing and sales. Students will also gain real-world experience through field trips and a practicum. Work integrated learning: 50-hour practicum.

The Wine Sales Certificate program provides individuals interested in employment in the area of wine sales with an introduction to grape growing and winemaking, an understanding of legal regulations and standards within the industry, marketing and sales strategies, and knowledge of wine shop management and winery promotions. Coursework involves a variety of projects and field trips. Work integrated learning: Practical experience in the industry.

CANADA TRAINING CREDIT

The Canada Training Credit is a new refundable tax credit to help Canadians with the cost of training fees. Eligible workers –those who have at least $10,000 in earnings for work (including maternity or parental leave benefits) and income below about $150,000 – between the ages of 25 and 64 would accumulate a credit balance at a rate of $250 per year, up to a lifetime training amount limit of $5,000. The credit could be used to claim a refundable tax credit for up to half of the eligible tuition and fees for taking a course or enrolling in a training program.
