Get to Know Terrence

I still love to play with toys. Any kind. Even baby toys.

My last name is Little Gardenhigh. People think it’s just Gardenhigh, but it is not.

I make my action figures superhero clothes out of anything I can find. Paper, aluminum foil, all kinds of stuff.

3

I am afraid to watch horror movies, but I would love to be in one so I can conquer my fear.

I can blow smoke out of my mouth inside or outside even when it’s not cold.

Terrence Little Gardenhigh Interview by Carol Wright | Photographer: Caleb Shane | Groomer: Eliven Quiros | Stylist: Patrick Lynere | Hair: Fesa Nu

We first got to connect with Terrence Little Gardenhigh after his role in the Netflix comedy Coffee & Kareem. Now Little Gardenhigh can be seen playing a superhero in Danger Force the spin-off of the hit Nickelodeon series Henry Danger. We talked to him about playing his superhero alter ego and working in other areas of the industry.

The entertainment industry has gone through numerous changes due to the pandemic. How has it been navigating the business at this time? It has been a big change from what I’m used to. We have to wear masks and social distance as much as possible on the set. We can’t have lunch together and we do our schoolwork in our dressing rooms. We have to do this to keep each other safe and still be able to film the show.

Miles' superhero alter ego is AWOL. Tell us about AWOL’s supersuit and how it spreads a message of solidarity. That fist on the costume represents unity and the fight against evil and oppression. It is a symbol of me being Black and proud. It made me feel so good during the protest against police brutality when I saw people of all colors with raised fists. That felt like solidarity all over the world. It made me happy and hopeful.

Tell us about Danger Force. What about the show interested you? I have always wanted to be a superhero lol. Most of all, I love Henry Danger.

What have you and your castmates done off-screen to create a close bond that translates on-screen? My castmate Cooper Barns, who plays Captain Man, is like the glue in the group. He gets us together to do fun stuff like pumpkin carving and keeps us laughing so hard behind the scenes. He and Michael Cohen, who plays Schwoz, are so fun and funny.

Are there similarities between you and your character Miles? Yes. We are kind of like the same people. We are both laid back, go with the flow kind-ofpeople, and believe the Universe is in control of everything! Miles might be a bit more outspoken than I am, but we are still a lot alike. It is very easy to play him.

Were comics and superheroes an interest of yours prior to working on Danger Force? I never really got into comic books, but I have a bunch of action figures that I play with all the time.

Danger Force is a spinoff of the popular show Henry Danger. After booking the show were you excited to be a part of the Henry Danger legacy? Are you kidding me!? I have been watching that show since I was like 7 maybe 6. I used to dream about the man cave. So actually working with the whole cast was mind-blowing. I’m still just like wow sometimes. I watch Henry Danger repeats all the time and I am still amazed.

Could you see yourself working in other parts of the entertainment industry being a writer or director? I would love to be a director because I’m really good at knowing my camera angles, and I know how people should be positioned on set. I do it in my head all the time. I don’t know about writing. Maybe if I knew what the process was, I would like it. Maybe I will ask if I can sit in the writing room and watch the pros go to work. Now that you have a few projects under your belt. How do you think you have grown as an actor? I can memorize my lines so fast and I have been told my comedic timing has gotten so much better. I also have learned how to jump back into character after laughing so hard at something that had nothing to do with the scene. What advice do you have for aspiring actors? Do not give up! If it is in your heart and you dream about it all the time, don’t give up. Practice, practice, and then practice some more. Always be positive and nice. That energy affects the room and the people you are around. Don’t worry about not booking roles all the time or feeling bad because you were told “not this time” over and over again. Your time will come. Just remember you are leaving your mark at those auditions and callbacks, and when you least expect it, the Universe will reward you for all your hard work.

"Do not give up! If it is in your heart and you dream about it all the time, don’t give up." 8

#QuickChat

Did a particular movie or television show inspire you to start acting? When I saw Queen Latifah on screen, I just knew! It was something she translated through the screen to my subconscious. All I knew for sure is that I wanted to be an actor.

Tell our readers about Side Hustle. What is it about and what drew you to the project? Side Hustle is about three kids who get in a world of trouble when they explode my father’s boat. They now have to find creative jobs to do to pay back my father. Jaget (my character) makes sure they get the money in on time. The character reminded me of the relationships that I had in my childhood. I brought some of those moments to my character. It is a lot of fun!

Your character Jaget fits into the mix by being the person who makes sure the app runs smoothly. In your own life are you a planner/the person who likes to guide others? No, absolutely not! My friends would probably describe me as a “go with flow” kind of guy.

Do you have a favorite episode you’ve shot? Yes, episode 6! I can’t tell you much about it yet, but it has one of my favorite props of the season so far! Make sure to be on the lookout for it.

11

In today’s culture, it seems like young people are creating side hustles left and right. Was that trend a large inspiration for the show? Yes, I feel that everyone, no matter what age or where you live, can have a side hustle. It’s the best part of living in this century. In the digital age, it’s so easy to connect and share with people.

What advice do you have for aspiring actors? Find fun in the exploration and performance!
