The end of this service year is close and I would like to congratulate all of the key clubbers who have worked tirelessly for their communities and abroad! Though this service year is closing, the memories we have continue to lead to more unopened doors. Continue to strive for things you are passionate about and I hope to see you at LTC! G o v e r n o r Hey Hey Hey NYDKC! It’s absolutely crazy to think that in less than a few weeks, we’ll be wrapping up the best service year yet. In the first three quarters of the year, we blew past our service hour goal and rapidly approached the fundraising goal that we set last Spring. Watching all of you serve your homes, schools, and communities has been quite the honor this year, and I certainly do not want to say goodbye…so let’s finish this year strong NYDKC! In November, the District Board met in Albany, along with New York Kiwanis & Circle K for Kiwanis Family Weekend – collaborating amongst our boards to strengthen the K-Fam. The next weekend, we hopped on Zoom with all of YOU for our Virtual District Fall Conference!

We heard from guest speakers for my Governor’s Project, Thirst Project, as well as our District Project, Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Collectively, we raised $1000 for ALSF, all thanks to our mighty New York District! We are now working around the clock to prepare for the 74th Annual Leadership Training Conference, Key Club County Fair – A Celebration of Service! At LTC, you will be able to partake in numerous workshop sessions, Keynote Speakers, Service, and electing our next District Officers. Given the rise of COVID-19 cases across New York, as well as the nation, I advise you all to be cautious and practice safety protocols during in-person club meetings, service events, and fundraisers.
There are numerous opportunities to help one another from a distance, so please remember to stay safe New York District! Together, we’re on our way to making this year the best one yet. Stay amazing New York District, and let’s end this year the best one yet!

S e c r e t a r y Hi NYDKC! It's finally March! I can't believe that I only have a month left in office, but it has been a great service year and I am so proud of all of you! So far, we have completed 155,823 hours of service - 156 percent of our goal! I want to give a huge shoutout to all the clubs that are doing their best to stay active during these crazy times. You guys have done a great job at filling out your MRFs on time but remember that late forms are always welcome!

Closing the end of the service year is the Leadership Training Conference - an event that the district board has prepared for some time. I look forward to seeing you all, either in person or virtually! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

T r e a s u r e r Hello NYDKC! So far this service year we were able to fundraise over $162,111.67 of our district goal of $150,000 - that is over 108%! With our district's continuous dedication to service and fundraising, we will be able to meet our fundraising goal. Keep filling out those Fundraising Report Forms! We currently have about 6,000 duespaying members. As dues season comes to an end I will send out an update to all club treasurers regarding the information you may need for the rest of the service year. This includes information on the Distinguished/Outstanding Treasurer Award and the second cycle of the Youth Opportunities Fund.

Howdy NYDKC! It's amazing how fast the 2021 service year has gone by! Hope everyone has had a great start to 2022. I'm so proud of how well our district has done so far into this service year, with us already reaching the service hour goal and making great progress on our fundraising goal! As we approach the end of the service year, I encourage everyone to apply for higher office and think about LTC. LTC is a great way to close out on the service year and I highly encourage everyone to join.

E A Many awards are given out at LTC! The District Affairs Committee recently published the 2021-2022 Awards Booklet. You can apply for individual awards, club awards, contests, scholarships, and more! The Awards Booklet contains thorough criteria and details on how to apply for each award. Check it out and think about which awards you want to apply for!
G o v e r n o r Aside from the LTC planning, I have been reviewing the Lieutenant Governor paperwork and minutes from committee meetings. I continue to stay in contact with my fellow board members, answering any questions they have.

W e b m a s t e r Hellooooo NYDKC! It’s Anna here again! I’ve done a couple stuff since June, we had issues with the website but it is now back to working again! I have updated the board page and the mission page with a cleaner and more modern look, so you can check that out on the website if you want! I have been collecting submissions of club events new york has done so far, and they have been uploaded on the instagram page. I also just started the meet the board posts yesterday, which I know a lot of people have been excited about. So don't forget to check back instagram every day to see posts!

I am close to being finished with the promotional video. I have collected all submissions, video clips, photos, and voice overs from people of the district board, including member representatives. It is coming together so well and I am so excited to show you all the finished product!! Once the music is done for the video, we still do not have access to the youtube channel we have where the videos are uploaded. We do have an email and password for the channel but it needed confirmation from a number in order to make the log in complete. This is not a major issue and we will work on resolving that problem with the youtube channel. I also have tons of ideas that will need approval first, so keep tuned for that as well!

Clothing Swap Event
Sustainable Fashion Community Center is at face value is for people to clean out their closets and swap them out for clothes that have been brought there. In a deeper sense, Sustainable Fashion is part of the NYC Fair Trade Coalition that promotes fair trade businesses and retailers in NYC. Their main goal is to educate people about the importance of fair trade, respect, empowerment, and sustainability between consumers and workers/producers. This was the second time that I went to SFCC, which made it nostalgic since the first one was so fun. In the latter half of the first event, Prof.Reyes, the supervisor of the center, had us create a quiz-type game that focused on educating people about fair trade. That game was the first thing that we did when we got there the second time. It was just 10 people leaning over a table looking at little slips of paper with questions and the answers trying to connect them. I didn’t know any of the questions so I was just as clueless as everyone else but it was still fun (mainly because all of us were contradicting each other on which question went with which answer).

We didn’t get many correct but we did learn that one piece of clothing is only worn 7-10 times before being thrown out and plenty of other facts that showed how unsustainable the fashion industry is. Then we started organizing the shelves of donated clothes, shoes, and other accessories and doing inventory for newly donated clothes. After that, we swapped out clothes and I was just asking the other volunteers if I looked good in the clothes I picked out. In the end, I left SFCC happy amongst new friends with a bunch of clothes and even a few necklaces.

Chinatown Community Fridge Key Club is great in that there are so many acts of service to choose from, whether it's an in-person or virtual event. Through these events, Key Clubbers get to indulge in volunteering and meeting new people, making new memories along the way. One event that really stuck with me was volunteering at the Chinatown Community Fridge. The fridge and pantry are run by a team of youth and local volunteers who strive to support a food-insecure community through providing fresh produce, goods, and other necessities. The whole purpose behind this event is what got me really excited to volunteer! I loved walking along with the neighborhood with other volunteers as we gathered the necessities to stock up the fridge. As we filled the fridge, senior citizens and other locals started gathering around as they grabbed some of the produce. The smiles on their faces absolutely warmed my heart.

I am so thankful for being able to help. Seeing everyone’s spirit really brightened up my day. Plus, the community there is so wholesome! I would definitely volunteer again and I hope others can join in :)

Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation Kiwanis is committed to improving the health of children. This organization helps pay for medical treatment for children with Lyme Disease, a brain disease caused by bacteria often from a deer tick.
Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center These centers in North Shore, Brooklyn, Albany, and Buffalo provide emergency treatment for children, preventing deaths and disabilities with proper care.
