OFSL Welcomes New Staff The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life welcomed three new staff members this summer, including Maggie Heffernan (Assistant Director), Michael Anne Adriano (Program Assistant), and Katherine Fox (Graduate Assistant). Maggie came to Northwestern in July 2010 from The Ohio State University, where she received her Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs. Maggie is a Chi Omega and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Miami University. She enjoys exploring the city of Chicago and all it has to offer, especially trying new restaurants and running near the lake. Michael Anne has been with OFSL since July 2010. She is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Sociology. While attending Wisconsin, she joined Pi Beta Phi sorority and continues to be an active member today. She enjoys traveling, playing tennis, cooking, and taking advantage of everything Chicago has to offer. Katherine will be interning at Northwestern in the fall of 2010 as she completes her Master of Education at Loyola University Chicago. Katherine received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Bradley University. Katherine is a member of Alpha Chi Omega and has been working with fraternities and sororities since 2009. In her free time, Katherine enjoys reading and traveling. Freshmen Freeze Policy Northwestern University restricts first-year students from joining Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Association, or Panhellenic Association member groups until winter quarter. Specifically, during the fall quarter, freshmen are not permitted to enter fraternity or sorority houses during Wildcat Welcome and the subsequent first two weeks of classes unless it is to visit a close relative for academic purposes. rd

After the Sunday of the third week (October 3 ), freshmen are permitted to enter chapter houses unless alcohol is present. Check with the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, or Panhellenic Association for additional policies and procedures. During fall quarter no fraternity or sorority may offer an invitation of membership to any first-year student. A first-year student may accept an invitation of membership from a chapter only after the start of winter quarter. Upperclass students and transfer students are permitted to participate in fall, winter, or spring quarter informal recruitment programs sponsored by the chapters. Alcohol is not permitted at any recruitment or new member/pledge activity. Chapters shall be allowed to market upcoming events starting on Saturday, September 25th. These advertisements must be submitted by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life by nd Wednesday, September 22 at 12:00pm for approval.

Greek Week 2010 will run from Sunday, October 3rd

through Friday, October 8th. Pairs were submitted th by Friday, September 17 and consisted of one PHA chapter, one to two IFC chapter(s), and one MGC or NPHC chapter. The captains meeting will be on Wednesday, nd September 22 at 6:00pm in the Technological Institute. Greek Week Schedule Sunday October 3: All Greek Day of Service at noon, location TBA Monday October 4: 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at 3 p.m., Bobb courts Tuesday October 5: Greek God and Goddess at 6 p.m., Ryan Auditorium Wednesday October 6: Tabling event and corn-hole competition at noon, the rock Thursday October 7: Stroll competition at 5 p.m. in McCormick Auditorium Friday October 8: Top Chef challenge at 3 p.m. location TBA

Intake Policy The purpose of the Intake policy is to provide the fraternities and sororities of the Northwestern University fraternity and sorority community, their Advisors, and prospective members with a source of information regarding membership intake. Chapter members, advisors, and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) will work together to ensure a successful and positive experience for all involved. The following meetings/documents should be completed PRIOR to intake activity:    

One chapter member (either President or Intake Coordinator) must meet with a representative in OFSL Notice of Intention to Conduct Membership Intake Process Form(.doc) Verification of Prospective Members(.doc) (within 48 hours after interest meeting) Prospective members are required to meet with OFSL advisor prior to start of education process
