Dance Marathon Northwestern University Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the world. Since it was founded in 1975, Northwestern students have raised more than $11 million for thirty different beneficiaries. Last year over 1,000 dancers and committee members raised $854,396 through fundraising and in-kind donations and NUDM is working toward an even bigger and better Dance Marathon in 2011. In 1975, Dance Marathon, the philanthropic child of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the Associated Student Government, was born on the Northwestern University campus. This year, Dance Marathon has two beneficiaries, the Childrens Heart Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation. The goal of the Children‟s Heart Foundation is to bring health, hope and happiness to children impacted by congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the United States. The Evanston Community Foundation (ECF) is a publicly supported philanthropic organization dedicated to enriching Evanston and the lives of its people, now and in the future. The foundation builds and manages its own and other community endowments, addresses Evanston‟s changing needs through grant-making, and provides leadership on important community issues. This year‟s event will take place on March 4, 5 and 6 of 2011 and will include many fraternities and sororities. Best of luck to everyone who participates!
