NU-INSIGHT MEETS THE SCHOOL D.O.S What is your marital status? Am married, with two boys. First born has five years, and the second with two years and a half. And am expecting another in future (laughs). What is the first thing you do when you wake up? I praise God for having made me go through the previous night, and then ask him to guide me through the following day as I execute my duties.

MR.MAGAMBO VINCENT

What is the hardest challenge you have ever faced?

Tell us about your background? I was born in Uganda, wakiso district. I attended schools like St. Francis secondary school, Kampala High School and graduated from Kyambogo University Tell us about your career? I started my career as a teacher on 4th,10.1999. I have taught in: -Groupe Scolaire de Gahini (1999-2003) -St Francis secondary school (20042008). -Nu-vision high school from 2009-2012

My hardest challenges were when my father died. I was a primary 7 candidate. I thought my education had come to an end. Later, I joined a secondary school where students who would get above 50% in all subjects could pay half of the fees which helped me since I was always among them. My mother also died when I had just joined senior five. What do you like most about Nu-vision high school? The school values hard work, promotes good virtues, and doesn’t compromise on indiscipline.

INTERVIEW WITH D.O.S CONTINUES... What is your favorite sport? It is football, though I have now retired, I used to play number 5,number 3 and number 2. This is because I use both legs while playing. What do you do in your free time? During school days, I almost have no free time. There is no single day when am fully out of office. On Sabbath during day , I get some time to sleep for at least two hours. Then in the evening ,I come to the office. When I go back home that’s when I am totally free. I watch movies with my family, we go for outing with my family, I visit relatives and friends whom I normally take long to see. What is your favorite movie? Unfortunately I am not a fan of movies instead I enjoy music and my favorite group overseas is UB40. In Rwanda , I love listening to ambassadors, and in Uganda, Jose Chameleon. What words of inspiration can you tell us, the youth. Youth who face challenge in education? In order to achieve Rwanda’s dev’pt strategy, human resources development is needed. It is education that will bring this to reality. I encourage the future generation of Rwanda not to compromise on anything that distracts them from education, since the country counts on your future developments.

‘’A society without culture is like an animal without a backbone’’

Where do you see Nu-Vision high school in the next 10 years to come? It will expand and become bigger. It will recruit students from East African region and even overseas. It will be the number one provider of quality education in the whole country. Actually the school has reached the last condition only that a few hindrances are obstructing this fact. We pray that things get streamlined to unveil the potential of the school.

Who is your role model and why? The late Dr. Mwalimu, Julius Kambarage Nyerere, former president of the United Republic of Tanzania. He opposed the whites who were under looking Africans and their cultures. He said that a society without culture is like an animal without a backbone. He was a pan-Africanist whom I always emulate.

Internationalism With the establishment of internet and other forms of communication, the world has gradually become a global village. In my opinion, this has been essential in bringing nations together. If I were a foreign affairs minister of Rwanda I would help countries like Somalia, Southern Sudan which are in crisis. My future plans include pursuing an engineering course overseas. It would be my pleasure to serve my country as a skilled and competent civil engineer. HIGIRO Brian: Grade 9

To me, “internationalism has a lot of meaning, as far as my future education is concerned. If given a chance to choose a country to go to for my university, I would opt for U.K. This is basically because of the good education and a variety of opportunities available. I want to do a course in development planning, at the same time a part time singer. NUNU-INSIGHT MAGAZINE :NOV/2O12

In this regard, it is important to view education, particularly the practical form at it, as one of the pillars of any nation’s success. Developed countries like the UK, USA and China restructured their education system way back in the 19TH and 20TH centuries. They embarked on stimulating creativity and inventiveness of learners and imparting relevant practical skills. Now, they are enjoying a higher simplified lifestyle, good medical services, modern housing schemes and life opportunities. Girlz talk... Taking PCM as my combination, I would like to pursue civil engineering as my career. In the past, the girl child was considered inferior and incompetent in life. And so, here in Nu-vision high school, we are doing the best we can to change what was in the people’s minds. Girls were undermined and it is my view that girls need empowerment and self confidence. My advice to all students is to maintain good moral standards, hardworking spirit and put God first in every thing they do. NINA N. n our community as a student, we need friends but some of us always find it hard to be a good friend. Here are the tips which will help you to become an adorable friend. Be Affectionate towards your friends. Show that you care, even in small things. Be Direct to your friends so that they can get used and accept who you are, but if you keep on pretending, they will take you later on as a hypocrite as they discover your true colors. Be Optimistic because nobody wants to be associated with a person who is negative, who will always discourage instead of pushing you forward. Be Respectful- he who respect, himself gains respect of others, and this is the foundation of true friendship to respect each other. Be Attentive because friends will always feel much together if you listen to each other and show interest, and support what one is saying or even doing. Be Bounteous always ready to give something for your friend welfare, this shows that you really are a good friend. Have Love for your friends because without it, you can’t do any of the above Be Enthusiastic about your friend because you will be showing them that you are excited and interested in them as your friends. Simply be an A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E friend. gains f l e s im ects h p s e r ho ct’ ‘he w respe By ISHIMWE Adeline S5 pcm

HOW PARAMOUNT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A TEACHER AND A STUDENT.

E

A teacher helping a pupil. Net photo

In our days we should ask ourselves why informal educations (home education) is long practiced than formal education (classroom education). The vivid picture is that informal education involves the enlightenment from the mother and father. The knowledge acquired at home is applied in the society because children are aware of it’s future use. The weapon behind the enthusiasm of the children is the intimacy between them and their life forces. There is no doubt if we students understand the role of teachers in our lives; it will spark the success and achievements of our goals. Many reasons have been raised by fellow students why their relationships with teachers is cripple. Most ordinary students claim that, teachers see them as primary students (childish ) whereas advanced students associbreath--out ate with teachers but the problem is to freely breath their problems due to fear and lack of trust to keep secrets .Some believe that in our days for two people to keep a secret is that one of them must be dead. With that in mind, teachers should be the pioneers to developing close relationship with students like father like son. For students, remember, that if you want to make yours dreams come true, wake up. So that at the end we shall all be flourishing and singing the song of everlasting success.

THE FUTURE IS IN OUR H A N D S

L

IFE is not only about today but also what tomorrow will be like. It would be much better if everyone would live a life that will enable him/her to be successful in future. Most of us are led astray by various things and fail to think about our future. This is mainly because the friends we choose sometimes mold us into the wrong people. The peer pressure from our colleagues can lead us into bad activities like smoking and drug abuse. If we think deeply about what we are involving ourselves in, we get to realize that we are spoiling our future.

This is due to laziness and we as the youth of this nation have involvement in other extra-curricula activities such to uphold good attitudes. as sports, singing and dancing.

It is important that we develop a good attitude and concentrate more on our books, keeping in mind that time is never on our side. Therefore, we must be punctual in all things we do. BAD DEBT WRITTEN OFF...

orrowing has been the culture in most African societies since the ancient times. This was executed in a fair manner. Recently, a dude of mine was sweetly-beaten up and down even sideways due to possessing people’s money in form of a debt. In folk tales, debtors should return back what they borrowed to prevent social disasters. Creditors do not lend much money. If you do doubt about the borrower this is to prevent “ the bad debt written off” which is associated with deaths or

disappearance of the borrowers. Cats have over 100 vocal chords

PHYSICS IS IN HIM!!! Call him OTIM JB, the best physics teacher on campus. J.B, is like a father to us because he follows up his students to make them understand the physics he knows. Every year, he produces the best students in the olevel physics in Rwanda. He has good tactics of teaching and his explanations are just mind blowing . On the other hand, JB is very social and friendly to everyone, he likes soccer very much and he is captain of the staff soccer team. This year, we believe that he will also produce the best students nationwide . S5’s are glad that he will take them through senior 6 and this gives them confidence that they will excel in this subject in their national exams.

I hate people who ….. Rumor-monger what they know nothing about at all. I know vividly that the few who do are the envy of many who only watch. Remember that what goes around comes around, you might be the victim of tomorrow. I advise you to think like grown-ups.

THIS & THAT...

Common Habits to Avoid ...

W

e are constantly being told about bad habits that we need to avoid in our lives like smoking, drinking too much alcohol, eating too much and not getting enough exercise. These are all important things that are crucial for good health but there are other little daily habits that seem harmless in the short run, but which can bring problems in the long haul.

Aren’t you tired of carrying people’s burden for zero price? I wonder what people think when they care for you more than you do. Uuh… isn’t that bad. Minding your own business is the best way of living a stressless life in high school. Starring is not that bad , but some people stare at you at the extent that you fail to raise a folk and swallow your food in the D.H. yes am sure that the ghost has raided the living earth . People go on to predict what you are thinking. You are really sorcerers. I advise you to live like you are the only one on the planet earth.

1.Sleeping Less: Sleep is nature’s way of revitalizing both the body and the mind after continuously working throughout the day, if you do not get enough sleep, you will inevitably become irritable, get mood swings, develop chronic fatigue and have poor performance at work. 2.Skipping Breakfast: Missing meals, especially, breakfast, has been found to lead to eventual weight gain. When the body is deprived of nutrients it goes into “starvation mode” so that anything you eat is stored in the body reservoirs as fat for future use. People who skip breakfast also have a tendency to eat high calorie snacks (cakes, mandazis, sausages…) there is also a tendency to eat too much lunch. Squeeze breakfast into your morning schedule to ensure a bright day. 3.Nose blowing: Ideally, you should blow your nose when you have a cold or flu. Repeated forceful nose blowing usually leads to damage of the delicate lining of the nose leading to nose bleeds. It has also been found to lead to sinus problems. The best thing to do is to only use a handkerchief to wipe the excess mucus away. If you really must blow your nose,

do it one nostril at a time. Courtesy of igihe.com
