People in the Saline community are proud of their ability to combine preservation of a rich history with all patterns of current and future growth. Contrasting photos show how this is happening. Newer buildings share the stage with older ones by using unique concepts that maintain the functionality and attractiveness of both. Examples include the First Methodist Church of Saline that celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2008. After moving to a larger building in the 1990s, the old church building downtown was remodeled to become “Th e Calico Cat” retail store, and then most recently “Beanstalks” storybook-themed play cafe. Other examples are readily apparent in and around downtown Saline.
