RELATIONSHIP MATTERS: 8 HOURS TO A LIFETIME OF RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION Having a successful relationship is hard work even in the best of times. MS can make it even more challenging. The National MS Society is proud to offer a program specifically designed to help couples negotiate and manage the uncertainty of living with multiple sclerosis Relationship Matters: 8 Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction.

Couples participating in the program have the opportunity to engage in creative and interactive course curricula designed to deal with challenges related to MS. Participants will acquire the skills and access resources to more successfully manage the effects of MS on your relationship. When you know how to take charge as a couple, MS doesn’t have to rule your relationship. Please join us in Livermore on Friday and Saturday, May 31st - June 1st at the Hilton Garden Inn. The program is $50 per couple and hotel rooms are $99 per night. Space is limited. To register call 1-800-344-4867. ◊

Have MS, Will (Still) Travel: Tips for Traveling with MS

A Night at the Ballpark Tuesday, April 15th 7:05 p.m. Raley Field 400 Ballpark Dr., West Sacramento Wear your brightest orange for an evening at the ballpark as volunteers, staff and families with MS get ready for 2014 Walk MS! We’ll be cheering on the River Cats as they take on the Fresno Grizzlies. It will be an evening filled with fun for the whole family. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased online in advance.

Newly Diagnosed Orientation Thursday, May 1st 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Mercy San Juan Medical Center 6555 Coyle Ave., Room 145, Carmichael If you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, you probably have a lot of questions and concerns. You may be feeling overwhelmed by the diagnosis, and unsure of what questions to ask or who to talk to. The National MS Society has developed the Newly Diagnosed Orientation so you can get the information and support you need to live comfortably and confidently with this change in your life. Friends and family are welcome for this

Candy Harrington, known as the guru of accessible travel, has covered this niche exclusively for the past 16 years and has published multiple books and pieces on the topic. Free From Falls Wednesdays: May 21st - July 9th 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Mercy MS Achievement Center 7777 Greenback Ln., Suite 108, Citrus Heights Studies indicate that falls are quite common among people with MS, are often associated with injuries and have a negative impact on quality of life. This fall prevention program has an eightweek curriculum designed for people living with MS who are ambulatory but may be at risk for falling. A supportive group atmosphere and expert instructors in the fields of rehabilitation, health and wellness will help each participant develop a personal plan to maximize safety. Each week’s two-hour program will have two parts; a

You must be able to walk at least 15 steps unaided or with only one cane, crutch or walking stick. If you are using a wheelchair or walker as a mobility aid, this program will not meet your needs. Contact your physical therapist for personalized assessment and therapy. The cost is $25 per person. You must pre-register by Monday, May 12th to receive an application.

REUSEIT RECYCLE DRIVE The Northern California Chapter, in partnership with ReUseIt, is making it easy to de-clutter homes while making a difference. Clothing drives will be on April 21st - May 4th at the following ReUseIt Donation Stations: • Carmichael: 6328 Fair Oaks Blvd. • Citrus Heights: 7770 Auburn Rd. • Sacramento: 5005 Stockton Blvd. Accepted items include clothing, shoes, jewelry, belts, purses, backpacks, bedding, linens, housewares, hardware, toys, sporting goods, small working appliances and some furniture. The stations are open Monday through Friday from 9am - 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 6pm.
