In Beyond (Roger Martin) Hostility GK VanPatter pointed out that Martin's 2005 essay "Designing in Hostile Territory" sets up tilted and unconstructive dynamics that reflect the power politics of business schools rather than real world conditions and transformation opportunities that exist in organizations today. Unlike the retro dynamics view of organizations depicted in Martin's "Hostile Territory" article leading design oriented firms are already working in the organizational transformation arena beyond hostility. GK challenges design education leaders to be more strategically on the ball on behalf of their students and question the implications of the dynamics embedded in this "Hostile Territory" article.
