Deputy Higgins said: “I am extremely disappointed to learn that the planned and much anticipated W6 route has been further delayed and will now be split into two separate bus routes, the W61 and the W62, before the two routes are eventually linked. “This means that the route will initially not directly link Newcastle with Hazelhatch and thus not provide a direct route from Tallaght to Maynooth which is really disappointing,” added Deputy

The rate of the Ancillary Services Grant should also be increased by 10% and the ‘capping’ of the grant to an enrolment of 500 pupils should be abolished for larger
parents to provide basic requirements, such as heat, light, and water, in schools. Even before the recent alarming rises in electricity prices, the price of heating oil has risen by nearly 115% in a year, and general inflation rates are running at over 9%. Schools cannot survive, let alone thrive, on the current rates. The Primary Management Bodies warned that the cost of living crisis was not just an issue for individuals but for entire school communities.

As part of his final project, Alexander developed SmoothScan, which allows healthcare professionals to hold the ultrasound probe against the patient, reducing the force they must apply. “SmoothScan is used primarily for echocardiograms, but can also be used for other abdominal scans. As a result, ultrasound practitioners use far less force to hold the probe in place, mitigating the risk of injury and lessening the impact of preexisting injuries. Alexander produced a SmoothScan prototype as part of his final-year project, but he

A Dublin woman whose first coffee morning for Hospice services netted €100 has transformed the fundraiser into a huge community gathering which now brings in thousands. Shirley Lawlor has run the event for 15 years – and has been inspired to keep going after losing two friends to cancer who were given “dignity and independence” by Hospice staff in their final days. A decision to stage one of her fundraisers outdoors during Covid restrictions saw her raise over €7,000 - her most successful yet - for Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services in Harold’s Cross.
